Addictology services from the perspective of inhabitans of Příbram
KYMLOVÁ, Petra
Addictology services pursue prevention and addiction treatment. In Czech Republic, these services started to develop more after the Velvet revolution in 1989. Until then, the topics of addiction and especially drug use were taboo and their problematic not discussed publically. The addictology services in the Příbram disctict are provided by the non-state, non-profit organization Magdaléna, o.p.s. The Contact center operates in Příbram since 2002, the Outreach program was established in 2003 and the Outpatient Addiction Treatment Clinic started its operation in 2017. The target of this thesis is to discover, how well informed are the residents of the Příbram district about the addictology care provided in this disctrict and map their views towards addictology services in general and specifically towards addictology services provided in the Příbram disctrict. The theorecial part is dedicated to establishing the general concepts in the areas of addictology, drug addicton and addictology services. It describes the network of care for people with addiction and the historical development of this care in Czech Republic. It pays attention to the definition of the basic sociological terms in the area of public opinion and available researches of public opinion in regards to the use of addictive substances. The quantitative strategy was used for the research part of the thesis, using a survey including closed and semi-closed questions, and questions with range options. The research set comprised of 430 respondents of the Příbram district residents. The aquired data wre evaluated using descriptive statistics in MS Excel, hypothesis were checked using the SPSS statistical program. The research investigation showed, that over 40 % residents of the Příbram area are aware of the services of the Contact center and the Outreach program, but are not sure of how these services operate. Over 30 % of respondents never heard about the services of the Outpatient Addiction Treatment Clinic, which operates in Příbram for only 3 years. Nearly 56 % of respondents have heard about the Magdaléna o.p.s. organization. The most controversially perceived topic is providing the low-threshold services to active drug users for free, and the financial viability of the addictology services for the country and society is questioned. Around 50 % of the respondents is glad to have addictology services provident within the Příbram disctrict and support them, with further 30 % of the respondents tend to agree with this statement, which I see as a positive outcome for the CAS Magdaléna Příbram. This thesis and its results can serve as a feedback for the workers of the Příbram area addictology services and to making the relaying of information to the public and presenting the services in personal contact by the workers of the outreach program and in media propagation more effective. Furthermore, this thesis can have an informative and educational value for everyone starting to get interested in the problematic of addictology services. I believe that the questionnaire was desinged in a way, that made the survey benefitial and informative for the respondents.

Provazníková, Radka ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Gabrhelík, Roman (referee)
Background: Intravenous way of drug application is the most common between problem drug users at Prague. Due Mravčík et al. (2015), the estimate is, that there was a 15 700 intravenous drug users at Prague in 2014 (7 500 pervitin users, 2 500 heroin users and 5 700 buprenorphine users). And that they spend about 15,5 millions of syringes every year (Švůgerová, 2015). But the data in Annual report on drug situation 2014 says, there was only 2, 6 millions of syringes distributed (Mravčík et al., 2015). This means, that Prague intravenous drug users spend many more syringes, that are distributed by low-treshold services and pharmacies. That is a reason of charting of the behaviour of drug users in connection with application of addictive substance, especially how the consuption of injecting material is connected with single type of drug user. Aims: The main aim of the thesis is to find out the frequency of drug application in intravenous drug users and to estimate the total consumption of injecting materialial depended on single of users typology (used drugs, frequncy of contact with harm reduction services…) Research sample: The sample consists of 155 clients of harm reduction services at Prague (3 contact centers and 3 streetwork programs). All of the respondents stated the intravenous drug using in...
Substance use by clients of the outreach program NO BIOHAZARD during the COVID 19 pandemic
Nováková, Tereza ; Chomynová, Pavla (advisor) ; Černíková, Tereza (referee)
The objective of this bachelor thesis is to map the patterns of substance abuse among clients of the outreach program No biohazard. The work aims to find out how and whether these patterns of use changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit the Czech Republic in early March 2020. Due to the global breadth of the pandemic, impacts and restrictions have affected almost all areas of human functioning. One of these areas was also the drug market. This study addresses how the restrictions associated with the pandemic affected the availability, price and quality of substances used among clients and whether during the pandemic the interest of outreach program clients in professional assistance such as treatment or counseling or substitution treatment increased. Research questions also ask about the availability of clean injection material and outreach programs during a pandemic. The study results serve as feedback on the functioning of the field program during the pandemic. I collected data for the purposes of the bachelor's thesis in a questionnaire survey among clients of the outreach program from March to June 2021. For the purposes of the survey, I created a questionnaire containing 23 questions focusing on current patterns of substance use and drug market changes during the COVID-19 pandemic. I...
