The Aaronic Blessing
Svoboda, Boris ; Beneš, Jiří (advisor) ; Vymětalová Hrabáková, Eva (referee)
SVOBODA, Boris: The Priestly Blessing. [Master thesis] / Boris Svoboda. - Charles University in Prague. Hussite Theological Faculty; - Supervisor: Doc. Mgr. Jiří Beneš, Th.D. - Degree: Master. - Prague: HTF UK, 2014. 65 p. This thesis deals with the exposition of the textual unit of The Aaronic Blessing from The Book of Numbers, chapter 6, verses 22-27. Its aim is to characterize theological meaning of the textual unit and also to provide insight into the meaning of the phenomenon of blessing in The Old Testament. Reach of this theological reflexion surpasses the scope of Old Testament judaism and provides an impulses also for the christian theology, for usage and developing of blessing in its context. Results of the exegesis can present knowledge about understanding of blessing not only in its original context, but also in the understanding of contemporary society. Blessing gives strong impulses for personal lives, but it is also connected with the issues of whole society and with approaching the goal of peace and the status of world, in which will of God is implemented. Population dynamics of Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina)
Poláková, Klára ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Storch, David (referee)
This study is aimed at analysis of long-term and short-term changes in numbers of Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina) in Třeboň region. This species is increasing in long-term period and it is also spreading into new localities in the Czech Republic. There were recorded two waves of arrival of Red-crested Pochard arrive, i.e. in April and in May. The total numbers were decreasing at the end of breeding season (from the beginning of July) in study area. The water surface area and area of littoral vegetation were found to be the most important factors affecting preference of individual ponds in pre-breeding season. Furthermore, water transparency seems to be important factor affecting numbers of broods, ducklings and adults in post-breeding season. Low numbers of broods per 1 female were recorded in years with high numbers of Red- crested Pochard at the start of breeding season. However, the frequency of brood parasitism was higher in these years. Key words: Netta rufina, Red-crested Pochard, population dynamics, ducks, breeding, numbers, brood parasitism, south Bohemia
Learning note-taking skills: a case study of interpreting students with English and Czech
Mlčochová, Jitka ; Mraček, David (advisor) ; Čeňková, Ivana (referee)
(in English) The thesis looks at interpreter's notes that are taken during consecutive interpreting. The thesis focuses on note-taking of numbers and links, two elements that are generally recommended to write down. The theoretical part briefly summarizes information about the topic and looks at the note-taking handbook by Andrew Gillies (2017). Based on the thesis of Kateřina Matrasová (2012), the empirical part presents two experiments to find out if numbers and links are captured. The experiments were carried out on two groups of students from the Institute of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University: 9 students from the 3rd year of the BA study programme English for Intercultural Communication and 6 students from the 2nd year of the follow-up MA study programme Interpreting: Czech and English. The analysis of the students' notes in the 1st experiment shows that in total the students noted down correctly 20 out of 25 numbers reaching an 80 per cent success rate. The MA students had better results (an 88 per cent success rate compared to 75 per cent success rate of the BA students). It can be seen that all the students had a system of noting numbers and that this system proved helpful to them. The 2nd experiment indicates that the students are less likely to capture links in...

Meaning of Numbers between Plato and Aristotle
Šíma, Antonín ; Špinka, Štěpán (advisor) ; Karfík, Filip (referee) ; Hladký, Vojtěch (referee)
1 Abstract Meaning of numbers between Plato and Aristotle Antonín Šíma The dissertation titled "The Transformation of the Concept of Number between Plato and the Early Academy" deals with the problem of numbers in early Platonism between Aristotle and Plato. In Plato's dialogues, within professional mathematical disciplines of knowledge, numbers fulfil a function of propaedeutic procedure to the method of thinking − dialectic. Dialectic engages in the most general structures of thinking whose centre is the problem of being and good, which is only mentioned marginally in our thesis. The philosophy of dialogues is based on the ontological and epistemological dignity of unchanging and eternally existing ideas. In Metaphysics A Aristotle describes Plato's and the Platonic doctrines of the early Academy in whose centre there are principles expressed by numbers: one and indefinite two, which are assessed according to Aristotelian principles doctrine as form and matter. Aristotle mentions Platonic dialectical method which focuses on researching the general in speech. This method distinguishes Platonic thought from Pythagorean philosophy in Aristotle's precursors' philosophy overview. In the criticized doctrine, numbers have the same meaning as ideas or ideal numbers standing on the scale of ontological dignity...

Daniel Gile's effort model in simultaneous interpreting
Tauchmanová, Jana ; Rejšková, Jana (advisor) ; Čeňková, Ivana (referee)
6 Summary Simultaneous interpreting is a very complex cognitive process. Daniel Gile's Effort Model is an attempt to describe in a schematic way the various competing processes that simultaneous interpreting is composed of. The model is based on findings from cognitive psychology, especially those relating to working memory and the limited processing capacity of the human mind. It defines the process of simultaneous interpreting as a combination of three individual, yet coinciding efforts (the Listening and Analysis Effort, the Production Effort, the Memory Effort), which require a certain amount of processing capacity to assure quality interpreting performance. Problem triggers can cause saturation of the interpreter's processing capacity to occur. Saturation manifests itself either by failure sequences or by the deterioration of the interpreter's performance, immediately or at a distance. The focus of our thesis is on processing capacity saturation due to numbers in simultaneous interpreting, from the point of view of the Effort Model. The first part of our paper is theoretical and deals with the various aspects of the simultaneous interpreting process, especially those relating to processing capacity, saturation and working memory; as well as with questions of well-known problem triggers, interpreting...
Numbers of non-native waterfowl species in Europe
Hodková, Veronika ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Šťastný, Karel (referee)
The Thesis is treating the spreading of non-native waterfowl species into new ecosystems and factors, which influence that process. The impact of selected eco-geographic characteristics on the species diversity and on the numbers of non-native waterfowl individuals was analyzed on the results of the International Waterbird Census. Further, the influence of those characteristics on the numbers and population trends of selected 11 species of the Anatidae family in 17 European countries was assessed. The highest non-native waterfowl species diversity was recorded in countries of the Atlantic coast, i.e. France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and also Switzerland. The main positive influence on their numbers makes the density of population and species diversity of wintering waterfowl. As to the number of non-native species individuals the main impact is produced by both, species diversity and the given latitude, too. It means that the largest number of individual exist in northern countries - Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. Similar main influences have been traced with the family Anatidae, too, which have received special attention in the analysis, as it shows the highest number of non- native species. As to the main eco-geographic characteristics, having impact on the growth or...
The long-term trends in numbers and distribution of birds in the Czech Republic
Gebauer Fialová, Adéla ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Fuchs, Roman (referee)
The long-term changes in distribution and numbers of bird species in the Czech Republic were analysed using published data from Breeding Birds Atlases in the Czech Republic (1973-77, 1985-89 and 2001-03). Each species were categorized by taxonomical group, migratory strategies, biogeography type, breeding habitat, breeding population size in Europe and in the Czech Republic a body size. The changes in numbers and changes in distribution were inter-correlated Increase in distribution as well as in numbers were recorded in rare and large species, in species increasing in whole Europe and in bird species protected under Czech legislation. Interesting pattern in population was found in waterbirds, where piscivorous species are increasing, whereas other (mostly grebes, ducks etc.) species are decreasing.
Cosmology, Numbers and the Platon’s Soul of the World
Rajchl, Jaroslav
The present status of cosmology is characterized by a variety of many different models. Nevertheless, it shows that some type of duality of both dynamical and the structural nature is typical. Its common source is the Big Bang (BB). To reconcile this very rich manifold we use the Plato’s model „of the World Soul”. Its main idea is the Pythagoras’ one of the role of numbers as fundamental elements of all the things in the World.
