Results: The thesis offers a comprehensive overview of rehabilitation care in patients after stroke together with an overview of orthotic options of paretic limbs in patients with permanent effects, e. g. spastic paresis, post stroke shoulder pain or joint instability. The thesis could be useful for all members of a multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation team and it should lead to improvement of awareness about orthotic options and to better understanding of the work of an orthotics...
Dancing with the Eyes of the Blind
Stráníková, Anežka ; Šumníková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Mužáková, Monika (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on issues of dance in relation to blind people. The goal of the thesis is to find out how to compensate for a blind person's lack of visual perception through dance. A secondary goal is to explore what dance means to blind people. The research is based on theoretical solutions obtained by analysis of available sources and based on research using qualitative strategies. To fulfill the research task, techniques of participant observation and interviews were used. From the data obtained through semi-structured interviews and observation of blind respondents in the framework of dance events, it has been found that dance is an effective form of stimulation and development of the compensatory senses of blind people. Most significantly dance influenced the participants' perception of their bodies, developing their capabilities and ability to respond to internal and external stimuli. The results of other interviews show that all blind participants have experience with dance. This experience is overwhelmingly positive. The survey confirms the importance of dance for blind people in the planes of their physical, mental and social faculties. KEY WORDS blindness, dance, compensation, perception, senses, movements, neuroplasticity
Influencing the gait pattern in patients after stroke employing Vojta reflex locomotion
Makarova, Yaroslava ; Brožová, Kamila (advisor) ; Jeníček, Jakub (referee)
The title of the thesis: Influencing the gait pattern in patients after stroke employing Vojta reflex locomotion Abstract: This bachelor thesis provides insight into Vojta reflex locomotion method and it's influence on gait quality amongst patients after stroke. Vojta reflex locomotion method is used quite rarely amongst such patients, yet it's field of application is expanding continuously. Use of this method makes it possible to affect complex and almost inaccessible muscular interactivities amongst patients suffering from central paresis, so it can positively affect gait or other parameters necessary for patient's locomotion. In this thesis two patients were studied. Both of them had completed eight forty-minute sessions of therapy during one month. Therapy was performed in two coordination complexes - reflex creeping and reflex rolling. The results were evaluated using certain tests, such as Timed Up and Go test, Rivermead visual gait assessment and Footscan gait analysis. Both patients had experienced certain stability improvements during kinesiological examination. Key words: Vojta reflex locomotion, stroke, gait, Footscan, neuroplasticity
Use of Mirror therapy in patients after brain injury from the viewpoint of Occupational therapist
Vyhnálková, Lenka ; Rodová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Angerová, Yvona (referee)
The purpose of this Master thesis was to evaluate the effects of the Mirror program on upper- limb motor recovery, self-sufficiency and active range of wrist movement in patients after brain injury. It was included sixteen participants within maximal four months after stroke. Patients were separated into experimental and control group, both with eight members. Experimental group underwent Mirror therapy. Both group participated in a standard rehabilitation program included Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, physical therapy and movement practice on device. Experimental group patients additionally participated in Mirror therapy program for 30 mins, four times a week, for three weeks. The Fugl-Meyer Assessment, Functional Independence Measure and goniometric measurement of active movement were used to assess recovery of upper-limb movement. Mirror therapy improve upper-limb motor recovery in patients after brain injury. This research demonstrates it with significant difference between both groups, where the experimental group have improved (0,02). I have also proved Mirror therapy, when included in occupational therapy, improves the self-sufficiency of people with neurological deficit. Comparing the data from Functional Independence Measurement, I found the difference between groups statistically...

Divišová, Kamila ; Drábová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pětioký, Jakub (referee)
This bachelor thesis investigates the Neurac method in patients with brain damage caused by cerebrovascular accidents, and their subsequent rehabilitation. The theoretical part of this work introduces different mechanism of brain damage with an emphasis on the ictus and the most widely used rehabilitation procedures. Furthermore, the Neurac method, the Redcord device as well as relevant clinical studies are described. The practical part of the thesis presents examination of two patients, a description of exercises on the Redcord apparatus and therapy procedures that patients underwent.
The Use of Mirror therapy in patients after stroke
Kovář, Jan ; Senohrábková, Eva (advisor) ; Drábová, Zuzana (referee)
BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Title of bachelor thesis:The Use of Mirror therapy in patients after stroke Abstract: The topic of my bachelor thesis consisting of theoretical and practical parts relates to Mirror therapy and its use in patients after stroke from the physiotherapeutical point of view. The theoretical part is conceived as a review of the background art. I summarize present information concerning stroke and describe certain methods and concepts which have proved to be useful in the therapy of stroke patients. The Mirror therapy principle consists in observation of the unaffected limb in a mirror being vertically attached to the sagittal axis of the patient's body. Movements performed by the unaffected limb give illusion these are likewise performed by the impaired limb. While watching the reflection in the mirror, the mirror neurons system is activated. The system thereafter provokes activation of motor and somatosenzory areas of the cerebral hemispheres controlling the affected limb. Central nervous system effectively uses reparation neuroplasticity and provides both motor and senzory function improvement. In the Mirror therapy chapter, I focus on the principles of the method as well as on its therapeutic effects and ways of application. Results of present studies evaluating Mirror therapy efficacy...

Bibliographic identification CHASÁKOVÁ, Ludmila. Utility of the "mirror therapy" in the treatment complex regional pain syndrome (type I). Prague: Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, 2014. 105 s. Supervisor Mgr. Stanislav Machač. Annotation Objectives: Introduction of "mirror therapy" (MT) principles in patients with Type 1 complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Verification of the effectiveness of the MT in terms of sensory, functional and morphological changes. Participants: Sixteen patients (14 women and 2 men, age 55.3±10.5 years) and 10 controls (7 women and 3 men, age 54.9±7.6 years) were included in this study. All of them were diagnosed as patients with Type I CRPS. Methods and measure: The intervention group underwent 6 weeks of MT. Both groups recorded numerical scale pain for 6 weeks. At the beginning and end of the period, all probands underwent examination including: range of motion of wrist flexion and extension, thenar temperature side-to-side difference, volume of the hand and forearm, dynamometry, PegBoard, ability to close the fist, Wind-Up, referred sensations and EQ-5D-3L questionnaire. Results: A statistically significant reduction in pain at rest and during movement was found in the intervention group, not in the control group....
Use of Forced-Use Therapy in stroke patients
Slavíková, Radka ; Senohrábková, Eva (advisor) ; Drábová, Zuzana (referee)
Title of bachelors thesis: Use of Forced-Use Therapy in stroke patients Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with Forced-use therapy, which is used in neurorehabilitation of the upper extremity in stroke patients. The most common symptoms of stroke included upper limb paresis, therefore in neurorehabilitation are alway looking for new methods, which include the FUT. The basis of this therapy is restraint healthy limb, which is achieved by use of the paretic extremity. The basic question this work is whether is FUT effective upper limb in neurorehabilitation of patients after stroke and whether improvements persist after termination of therapy. Bachelor thesis consists of theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part is conceived as a research drawing particularly from foreign studies. This section contains an overview of studies that discuss the effectiveness of FUT. The practical part contains two case reports documenting the examination and treatment of patients after stroke through FUT. Key words: forced-use therapy, constraint-induced movement therapy, neurorehabilitation, neuroplasticity, stroke
Antidepressant effect of ketamine
Revayová, Anna ; Valeš, Karel (advisor) ; Šóš, Peter (referee)
Ketamine is used as an anaesthetic mainly in veterinary medicine and paediatrics. Thirteen years ago, interest in ketamine as an antidepressant emerged. Ketamine as an antidepressant works rapidly and is also effective in the case of patients suffering from treatment resistant depression. The main disadvantage of ketamine as an antidepressant is its psychotomimetic effect. Ketamine is an antagonist of the NMDA receptor, which has an important influence in brain activity. Through antagonism of this receptor, a large amount of processes can be affected, for example levels of glutamate, excitotoxicity, or density of other receptors. In addition, ketamine probably also affects the D2 receptors, but its role in this is uncertain. Ketamine influences synaptic plasticity and its effect can be modulated by repeated application, co-application with other drugs and other methods. Also gender seems to play role in the effect of ketamine. The aim of this work is to summarise possible mechanisms of effect of ketamine, its effect on synaptic plasticity and also possibilities of modulation of its effect. This thesis mentions the most important studies concerning ketamine as an antidepressant and possible future directions of research. Keywords: major depressive disorder, ketamine, antidepressant, NMDA antagonism,...
