Dependence of the immobile and self-unsufficient clients on staff nursing in a rest home for the seniors
POTŮČKOVÁ, Marie
With increasing age expectancy the number of older people who become immobile, is increasing those people are not self-sufficient anymore, often suffering from dementia, and therefore they can become dependent on the care of other people. If this dependency is only of a small extent, the families usually try to take care of such older people themselves. But with decreasing self-sufficiency when seniors do not manage to be alone at home all day, they need to stay in some type of home for senior citizens. They then go into residential social institutions where the nursing staff takes care of them. How do these clients see such care and how do they cope with their situation. What is their experience with the staff? The thesis tries to answer the above mentioned questions. It also tries to review the biggest problems seen by the staff taking care of immobile, dependent clients often suffering dementia.
Significance of socio-medical assistance services for families of affected senior
HELEBRANDOVÁ, Lucie
Abstract: I have chosen a subject matter which is focused on care for seniors who are not self-sufficient as a topic of my bachelor thesis. Due to the fact that I have looked after my relatives whose self-sufficiency was cut down for their health this topic is close to my heart. This gained experience together with the specialisation I have been studying became the main reason I have chosen such topic for my bachelor thesis. This bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part was divided into four basic chapters. In the first chapter there are the present state of the population of seniors, the role of the state and a status of seniors in our society described. The second chapter follows up and is focused on aging and an old age itself. The third chapter deals with social policy and a system of social services in our society. The fourth chapter deals with the theoretical significance of social care services particularly care services and personal assistance for families with seniors who are not self-sufficient. In particular I have focused on what kind of help is provided to families by each of the two services. The second part of the thesis is a qualitative research which helped to fulfill the objective of this thesis. The subject of the research was to determine the extent to which these services are being used and their relevance for families with chronically ill or differently disadvantaged seniors. The purpose of the survey was to obtain reactions and responses to the question: "What is the importance of social and health care services and personal assistance for families with seniors who are not self-sufficient." The research was focused on individuals and families who care for their loved ones and relatives of an old age who are partially or fully dependent on the assistance of another person. These were just caring family members who were using a day care or personal assistance. In order to obtain the necessary information I have chosen an individual interview method. Through this I could direct research participants in the debate to the subject matters that had helped to clarify goals of this thesis. The survey has resulted in to the summary of the results. The results were formulated on the basis of the recorded reactions of the respondents at first in general and then in the tables. The acquired knowledge became the basis for the formulation of a clear appreciation of the research. There was also evaluated the objective of the thesis and given an answer to my research question. In most cases, the main significance of care services and personal assistance was found in the fact that families are more or less able to keep living standard not only of their own but mainly of a caring person. For a family it is usually very important, to keep a good quality of life to the caring person for this reason it tries with the help of social services to provide maximum in health and social area to seniors. The importance of these two social services also lies in the fact that a family member who is not self-sufficient has the option to stay in his natural home environment surrounded by his relatives. Caregivers have space to have a rest and to recover as well as some time needed to process personal and work matters. Social services can make shared lives of the elderly, who is not self-sufficient, and his entire family easier.
Change of client structure in a rest home after implementation of the Social Service Act.
PAPANOVÁ, Andrea
The thesis examines and compares the structure of clients entering residential homes, namely rest homes after the effect of the Social Service Act, which has been valid since January 2007 to the structure of clients of rest homes before the effect thereof. The aim is to examine the health condition of the clients of Máj Rest Home in České Budějovice before and after implementation of the Social Service Act, to compare the influence of client structure on social service funding and to evaluate the effect of the Social Service Act on the structure of the clients entering Máj Rest Home in this relation.
Utilization of aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients at departments of intensive medicine.
JANTAČOVÁ, Dana
Departments of intensive medicine often hospitalize patients with self-sufficiency disorders in routine daily activities. Nurses working in those departments have to handle such patients on daily basis, as a part of providing quality nursing care. To make their work easier there are more or less available aids, however, they are not always fully used. The reasons include complexity of the use, unavailability of the aids in hospitals or saving time for other duties. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part considers the theoretical side of the issue. We have focused on patients at departments of intensive medicine, who are dependent on assistance provided by nurses. Nurses function primarily as attendants. The theoretical part also describes the most common aids used for handling of non-self-sufficient patients. The second part of the thesis focuses on research. We have conducted surveys in selected hospitals in the Czech Republic at departments of intensive medicine. The survey used anonymous questionnaires for nurses working at intensive medicine departments. The objectives of the thesis were as follows: To find out whether nurses at departments of intensive medicine use all aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients; to find out which aids are used most frequently by nurses at departments of intensive medicine for handling of non-self-sufficient patients and to find out whether nurses at departments of intensive medicine are able to use correctly the available aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients. To achieve the objectives, three hypotheses were established H1: Nurses at departments of intensive medicine do not use all aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients. H2: The aid most frequently used by nurses at departments of intensive medicine is a positioning mat. H3: Nurses at departments of intensive medicine are able to use correctly the available aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients. The objectives of the work have been met and three hypotheses were confirmed in the survey. This thesis may serve as an information material for nurses interested in nursing in intensive medicine. Further, it may serve for manufacturers of aids for handling of non-self-sufficient patients; it presents opportunities for improvement of the most frequently used aids and for simplification of work with aids used by the nurses less frequently.
Methods of handling of rather less self-sufficient and non-self-sufficient clients in residential houses for elderly persons in the Region of South Bohemia
ČÁPOVÁ, Pavlína
Handling of clients is an integral part of everyday work of most of nurses. It constitutes also the largest physical load for nurses. Correctly conducted handling of a client and usage of handling aids reduces both the physical load for nurses and the risks of nurses{\crq} injuries sustained in relation with handling. As far as clients are concerned, the risks connected with handling are reduced and the comfort of the nursing care is increased then. Handling includes positioning, shifting, lifting to chairs and verticalisation. Correct handling of a client allows prevention of the complications resulting from immobility and thus also maintenance and even renewal of a client{\crq}s self-sufficiency. The bachelor thesis themed ``Methods of handling of rather less self-sufficient and non-self-sufficient clients in residential houses for elderly persons in the Region of South Bohemia{\crqq} has a research character. It is divided into two parts {--} a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part is focused on old-age, self-sufficiency, immobility and handling of clients. The practical part consists of a quantitative research conducted by a questionnaire method, in which we attempt to confirm the raised hypotheses. H1: Nursing staff has no practical experience in the area of handling of clients. H2: Residential houses for elderly persons are not sufficiently equipped with handling aids. H3: Nursing staff in residential houses for elderly persons does not require changes in the established manner of handling of clients. Nurses in residential houses for elderly persons in the Region of South Bohemia obtained 150 questionnaires, of which 126 were returned, i.e. 84 %. The final set of regularly filled out questionnaires for the research consisted of 108 questionnaires. The objective of the thesis is to ascertain the level of knowledge and practical experience of nurses in the area of handling of clients, and to ascertain and compare the manners of utilization of technical aids and equipment facilitating handling in residential houses for elderly persons in the Region of South Bohemia. The results of the thesis should redound to more regardful, comfortable and considerate handling of rather less and non-self-sufficient clients in residential houses for elderly persons, and facilitate the work of nursing staff in terms of their own health.
