Brno Skyscraper
Gebauer, Pavel ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
The architectural-urban design of the skyscraper responds to the proposed territorial study of the South District located near the historic center of Brno. The currently developing area is defined by the area of the new main railway station, the Svratka river and Opuštěná street. This new representative unit lacks an element that would make it unique even from a distant perspective. As well as the historical center with its cathedral of St. Peter and Paul defines the place, the skyscraper complementing the space of the new main station creates an authentic orientation element of the new urban district representing the innovative principles of the city's development. The location of the high-rise landmark near the main entrance of the new Brno railway station helps in easier orientation in the area. The vertical mass of the skyscraper contrasts with the vast and relatively low mass of the station hall. The composition of the building responds to the urban structure and location in relation to the historic center. The base of the building fully respects the regulations and the height level of the street in which it is located. The crown of the skyscraper rotates around its axis and thus directly reacts to the city center by its rotation, thus creating a dialogue between history and the future. The skyscraper is designed as a multifunctional object primarily represented by the function of a hotel with a congress center. These functions are also complemented by secondary units in the form of cafes, bars or restaurants. However, the building also has other services for users, such as wellness, fitness and massage facilities. The last floors of the skyscraper are designed as public. The functional content of the crown of the skyscraper is completed by a cafe and a sky bar with a brilliant views.

Aspects of High-Rise Housing, Based on Analysis and Observation of Chinese Cities
Toman, Radek
“Throughout the city, whole blocks are being flattened, turning parts of the former “Paris of the East” into huge construction sites - a chorus of cranes, jack-hammers and bulldozers chiselling out the foundations of skyscrapers, elevated expressways and subway tunnels. Architects are having their fling with modernism - designing huge glass-faced office complexes and luxury apartment Blocks.” [1]

The proposed building is located in the part of the city called Veveří. The building site is defined by Šumavská and Veveří streets. The building is designed as a single rectangular prism shaped volume. The entrances to the building are at the level of surrounding terrain. The building has 31 aboveground floors and 9 underground floors. The simple shape of building is structured by horizontal bands of consoles which create shields against excessive sun exposure and vertical atriums embedded in the main volume. These atriums connect interior and exterior. This atrium create connection between interior and exterior and ease the penetration of natural daylight inside the building. Juřík, Michal ; Velek, Jan (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
The study offers a solution of a high-altitude object in Brno in the city part called Veveří. There are proposed two towers which are designed in a simple cubic form ( their heights are 154 a 80 metres ) rising from the surrounding buildings. Towers are mutually interconnected by lower object in the same morphology. In the object are situated administrative spaces, hotel, restaurant, coffee bar, penthouse, congress hall, vertical gallery, painters´ incubator and parking house. Particular functions can be connected because of layout plan, or can be used as separate units. The interpretation of the facade of the object is to highlight verticality, due to the raster and increasing reflecting surface of glass segments verticality and evoke by this a feeling of a tower ending in the middle of clouds.
