Fleas of dogs and cats - possibilities of prevention in different geographical conditions
Vodenková, Gabriela ; Lukešová, Daniela (advisor) ; Alica, Alica (referee)
Fleas are worldwide distributed parasites with a capability of transmitting dangerous diseases and causing many other problems to animals and humans. Bachelor thesis was focussed on the possibilities of prevention on flea infestation, these seemingly innocuous insects. Based on available sources of scientific and professional literature were briefly summarized general findings about their biology, furthermore flea-borne diseases were chosen and described, especially dangerous zoonoses. Attention was dedicated to monitoring and factors, which influence their transmission in the evironment. Questionnaire survey was oriented on veterinarians and breeders and evaluating expenditures for prevention and treatment on flea infestation, when at breeders expenditures amounted c. 500,-Kč. Veterinarians was mentioning expenditures for prevention around 800,-Kč and on therapy even 1500,-Kč for dogs and cats treatment in a calendar year. Preference of medicines registered at the Czech market of breeders and veterinarians was congenerous. In the most cases they congruently chose products from farmaceutical companies Bayer, Merial and MSD. Breeders chose antiparasitic collars and spot-on application form, while veterinarians prefered spot-on and peroral tablets. Gained results of the questionnaire survey can help breeders with choosing and application of efficient antiparasitics designated for preclusion of transmission of fleas and ticks of dogs and cats in the evironment.
The issue of crayfish repatriation - A literature search and examples from practice
HRBEK, Vladimír
The issue of crayfish repatriation - A literature search and examples from practice The numbers of crayfish in our water bodies decreased in last few decades. Mainly because of crayfish plague which is carried by American crafish species. That is why it is important to do repatriation processes. For the repatriation or any manipulation with crayfish is needed an exception based in law. This exceptions are provided since 2009 by regional offices or by the management of protected landscape areas. Before 2009 this competence belonged to the Ministry of Environment. The authorities claim they have issued only six exceptions concerning reapatriation. unfortunately the reality is different. Particularly the Ministry of Environment provided information that they did not find any records of exception concerning repatriation. The truth is that they did so even several times.
Anti-Plague texts in the late Middle Ages and the Early modern period.
PAMPUSCHOVÁ, Marie
The theme of this work are late medieval and early modern time anti-plague treatises and official regulations against plague. In times when many countries and even continents were affected by plague, many city councils and rulers themself had the treatises printed in order to reduce the risk of transmission of the infection and development of the illness. The treatises adjusted regulations of towns and villages. These official decrees against plague were supplemented with plague treatises that were written for inhabitants of towns affected by black death. Many of them were written in Latin and therefore incomprehensible to uneducated people. It changed when a doctor Jan Černý wrote such a treatise in Czech language. The treatises advised not only how to prevent plague but also how to treat it. I divided my work into two parts. In the first part I describe particular plague epidemics that took place especially in Bohemia and Moravia. I progressed chronologically from antiquity to the 18th century and described whole course of epidemics in various regions. In the second part I focused mainly on different ways how these treatises deal with prevention and treatment of the disease. I made a comparison of various plague treatises from Prague, České Budějovice and Nepomuk. In order to gather data and informations I focused on historical sources and literature that give us informations from people who had first-hand experience of plague. I do the overall comparison and critique of these sources in seperate chapter. I believe this work can work as an educational material for students and teacher
