My aim was to build on the street buildings and the horizontal line adjacent materials . On the corner there is a breach of negative corner that serves as an entrance to the building . It also serves as a public space with the possibility of a summer garden cafe and the space in the theatre . The space between buildings incurred to complete the perforated screen. Perforation ensures sufficient intimacy of interior space, but also allows contact with the public space . The screen also brings a staircase whose arms linking the two spaces . Bohumel, Martin ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
Mixed-use house at Křížová Street The project of mixed-use house located in the district of Old Brno is based on its location and its specific plot, situated between two street corners, at the end of the future pedestrian-only street, in direct contact with busy Mendel square. The house as a whole is enclosing eastern side of the street and with two breaks of the façade reacts to the gentle curve of the street on the other side. At the same time, these breaks of the façade acts as dividing elements, which help to create more subtle feeling of the otherwise long building. One of these breaks continues all the way through the house to the back and creates a cut, which allows a view to the inner courtyard, where a historical brick chimney is situated. This visual connection is at the same time also a metaphorical connection to the history of the location. The cut also serves as a main access for the residential areas in the upper floors and gives the inhabitants the opportunity to enter their homes through a dignified and representative space. Functionally, the house is divided into commercial spaces on the ground level, residential upper floors and parking in the basement.

This master thesis is exploring a possibility of densifying traditional block structure of a city by the design of a multifunctional building. It is located in Brno exactly in Brno centrum city part. The building site is defined by Veveří, Kounicova and Pekárenská streets. On the forth side there is existing block of flats on the Sokolská Street. The design itself is based on the form of a traditional enclosed block of flats, but masses are oriented differently. The basic principle is layering when first two floors are commercially oriented and therefore accessible by public. Living areas are separated by position above. The roof, connecting all of the buildings, is taking role of a traditional courtyard. In this case, it stays visually connected with surrounding street life and newly formed commercial parts. Masses of the complex are reflecting different city structures on each side. It encloses on the side of the Veveří Street which creates undisturbed street corridor. New structure opens more to Kounicova Street and reflects free city pattern of this part.

My proposaladded to the existing urban character of the area and added it to the missing block development. This location has become an attractive area for the whole region, which offers a wide range of new jobs in services, administration, education, healthcare and a number of residential units for different social groups. The proposed multi-purpose building uses plot in the urban area and is designed as a selfcontained. It reduces transportation and cumulates more diverse functions in one place. It follows the surrounding urban areas. West facade respects the existing street line the MasnáStreet and its height fits the surrounding buildings.
