Material culture in the Orava. Mountain alpine farming.

This bachelor's thesis deals with the tradition of Alpine dairy farming in Slovakia, which has been developing since the 15th or 16th century due to the influence of the Wallachian colonization. The individual chapters of the thesis discuss the cycle of the traditional shepherd's work during the year, the seasonal work during the warm part of the year and also the daily routine and its organization as well as the material culture of the shepherds including their architecture and their diet. The historical passages of the thesis outline the development of the Alpine dairy farming society and the ways in which it works. We also take heed of the individual shepherds within this scope, detailing their professional hierarchy and job description, from the chief shepherd to the lowest-ranking member of their society.
The visual matter of Hezbollah on Southern suburb of Beirut

The author of the graduation research on the theme Visual Matter of Hezbollah on Southern Suburb of Beirut deals with the issue by unconventional approach of sociocultural anthropology. Through the application of Alfred Gell's and Robert Layton's art theory he assess what are the values incorporated in material culture of Hezbollah using to its self presentation. The author provides a description of examples and subsequently finds parallels in the material objects and what kind of an agency these objects are carrying. The paper is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The opening of the work also briefly deals with the history of Lebanon's shia confession and as well as history of the movement itself. Further, the empirical part is divided into three sections. The first is devoted to poster's and billboard's expression of Hezbollah, the second is focused on the urban estate of southern suburbs of Beirut and in the last section the author focused on small souvenir items and things of daily use. Finally, he concludes that the material culture of Hezbollah in Dahieh seem to be connected in logical but unexpected contexts - the art with politics, communication with the urban space and technology with culture. of diploma thesis Title: Strangers at home - In Search of Indigenous Identity at the Suburbs of a Glocal Mexican City Student: Marie Heřmanová Tutor: Mgr. Radovan Haluzík The presented thesis is based on a fieldwork realized during five months in the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas in south of Mexico and deals with different strategies through which are young Tzotziles and Tzeltales living in the new suburbs of the old colonial city constructing their identity. Main axes of the thesis are first the relationship of these young people to the native communities of their parents and second to the rich and turistic city centre. As a main ethnographic method I use participant observation and also the material culture studies ( the tesis focus mostly on identification through visage and consequently on the consitution of identity through styles and modes of dressing).
Life of the Czechs in Brussels. Glimpse in the World of the Czech Euro Bureacrats

The thesis provides a glimpse into lives of the Czechs working in the EU institutions. Accent is on the theory of transnationalism as contemporary approach to international migration. The paper focuses on group of migrants for which mobility and high qualification is characteristical as important elements within the current knowledge based society. It deals with migrants who are living their lives in two or more countries at once and who stay in close touch with the country of their origin. Focus of the work is aimed at the concept of temporarity as a key dimension that has influence on strategy, lifestyle and values of the Czech transnational migrants in Brussels. Conclusions are based on qualitative research composed of longterm participant observation, formal semi-structured and informal interviews. The aim of the work is to show the dimenson of temporarity by using material culture as a method on strategies of living and consumation and also how are the Czechs in Brussels biased by a specific environment of the EU institutions. Further to find out whether it is possible to consider Czech migrants as transnational migrants with regards to the definition of transnational migration and following the relationship to the Czech Republic and Belgium, contacts with home. The lifestyle of burghers in the medieval town of České Budějovice. An analysis of archaeological material from Hroznová Street, house no. 23

The aim of the work is to broaden the knowledge of historical bourgeois material culture in the centre of České Budějovice. The analysis focuses on pottery wares and other material obtained during the rescue archaeological excavation on the plot of house no. 23. The morphological as well as technological characteristics of the assemblage under study are observed and provide a better understanding of the evolution and transformation of the material culture of the medieval city.
Residence of Leopold Vilém Kolovrat-Krakovský at the turn of the 18th and 19th century in the light of surviving equipments

This Bachelor´s thesis is focused on the Leopold Vilém Kolovrat-Krakovský´s aristocratic baroque residence which is situated in the Hroby. The main objective of this thesis is reconstruction of the interior layout and material equipment of the seat at the turn of the 18th and 19th century. Like source of knowledge of the material culture of the seat there were used surviving castle inventory which were created in 1795 and 1803. The object of the interest is the characteristic of individual rooms of the seat. This work is also focused on symbolic meaning of the decoration of the interior and objects, which were reflected in world of the thought and value ladder of Leopold Vilém Kolovrat-Krakovský and his family. There is paid special attention to furniture and extraordinary collection of cookware which reflect changing period trends.

The bachelor thesis is called The paintings in the probate inventories of Netolice burgesses in 18th century and deals with the appearance of paintings in these probate inventories, which are the most important sources. The thesis is focused on the number of the paintings in every inventory, how the paintings looked like and least but not last on the topics of the paintings. To create this thesis the author had to applied more than one approach the approaches of the history of arts (e.g. the iconography) and the approaches of the history (e.g. the palaeography). And it is very important to combine the methods.
The sleeping culture of the Netolice burgesses in 18th century

This diploma thesis is called "The sleeping culture of the Netolice burgesses in 18th century" and its aim is to reveal the history of their everyday life in Netolice in 18th century with the emphasis on the material sleeping culture. The probate inventories were used as the main sources. The author focused on the objects which were linked to sleeping - sleeping rooms, beds and bedding. Then the probate inventories were divided by social, professional and gender stratification. This diploma thesis could be the first step of the systematic study of the sleeping culture in the burgesses environmental.
