Sport hall and its facilities for the elementary school Hudcova 35, Brno
Hlobilová, Lucie ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis is to design a sports hall for a primary school in Brno – Medlánky. This task was preceded by a school project during the winter semester, where the task was to process the development area with the aim of designing an urban structure for the location of the sports hall. The area of the sports hall was to be located at the shortest possible walking distance from the primary school. Next, add additional functions to the structure as appropriate, based on the analyzes performed. The area for the location of the sports hall is currently made up mainly of agricultural land with overgrown greenery. The terrain is slightly sloping and descends from west to east. The territory is defined on the north side by the existing development of buildings, on the east side by a service road and on the west by a park. The aim of the thesis is to design a sports hall with simple operation, so that its independence is preserved even during afternoon/evening operation, e.g. leisure activities of sports clubs. The building has a playing area with a grandstand for spectators, changing rooms with hygienic facilities, a multi-purpose hall, offices for teachers and a bistro. Since the building is located in a predominantly green area, I tried to integrate it into the terrain and merge with the surrounding nature by designing biosolar roofs and green facades. These parts of the living facade are balanced by glazed surfaces, which bring natural light into the building and create ideal climatic conditions for sports activities. Living facades will create a pleasant climate in the future as well in the case of construction in a development area. The aim of the project is to use and make the entire area more attractive and to connect it with existing buildings.

Economic Effects of Germans' Expulsion from Czechoslovakia Revisited
Kafková, Kateřina ; Baxa, Jaromír (advisor) ; Schwarz, Jiří (referee)
Economic Effects of Germans' Expulsion from Czechoslovakia Revisited Author: Bc. Kateřina Kafková Abstract This thesis studies long-run effects that expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II had on the Czech borderlands. Specifically, the thesis tests sensitivity of prior literature's findings by investigating previously not addressed potentially confounding factors - presence of military areas and border zone in the data; heavy air pollution in the North-West Bohemia during the communist regime; and impact of Wild expulsion in the Soviet liberation zone right after the end of World War II. Minor to no effects of these factors are revealed. Therefore, the findings of this thesis are in line with the findings of the existing literature - the expulsion of Germans caused higher unemployment, lower population density, lower employment in high- skilled sectors, and a lower share of population with secondary and tertiary education in the borderlands, when compared to the Czech interior, that lasts until today.
Limits of efficiency and sustainability of the functioning of the municipalities in Czechia - example of ORP Litomyšl and Chrudim
Šel, Jan ; Hellebrandová, Lenka (advisor) ; Hruška, Vladan (referee)
The subject of the research of the master's thesis is the boundary of the effective and sustainable functioning of small municipalities in the Czech Republic, specifically in the ORP (municipalities with extended powers) Litomyšl and Chrudim. In the Czech Republic, the issue of sustainability and efficiency of small municipalities is a long-term problem that still has not been resolved. Civic amenities are also relevant. Due to the low population size of the municipalities, they often do not reach the corresponding standard. The first part of the thesis presents the institutional context of the development of public administration and self- government in the Czech lands, the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia. The second part describes theoretical concepts, indices, measures describing the efficiency of municipal governments. The third part of describes the method of selecting the territory, the description of the data and the composition of the set of indicators, which are developed in the analytical part. The analytical part determines the approximate population size from which the municipality is able to ensure basic standards of services for its citizens and at the same time function sustainably. The evaluation - standard chapter determined the basic standard that municipalities should provide...
The Impact of Citizens' Initiative on the Urban Development The Case Study of Vyšehrad Station
Moravcová, Ivana ; Slámová, Eliška (advisor) ; Špačková, Petra (referee)
The aim of the bachelor theses "Význam občanských iniciativ na rozvoji města - případová studie nádraží Vyšehrad" is to find a way how the citizens' initiative are involved in the development of the city, what resources they use and whether their activity is effective. The theoretical part of the theses introduces the basics of the community theory and research of local development, there is also included an explanation of Czech laws about citizens' initiatives and the urban planning process. The research is based on the case study of Vyšehrad station and involved groups. The main methods were semi-structured interviews with involved subjects and also detailed study of documents and newspaper articles. In the research there were identified three main types of initiatives. Members of citywide associations are mainly professionals. They help locals to be able to fight for their neighborhood and be a successful participant of the urban planning process. Local movements are more powerful because of strong identification with local issues and bigger amount of time and energy of its members. But those groups are not established in the city center because they fight against big projects built in the outskirts of the city. Last group can be called citizens' initiative; those are formed by dissatisfied...
The role of soft factors in the development of the inner periphery of the Eastern Bohemia
Komárek, Marek
The role of soft factors in the development of the inner periphery of the Eastern Bohemia Abstract In recent years, research on conditionality process of space polarization and regional development puts emphasis on understanding importance of endogenous and "soft" factors. General theories of regional development (formed mainly on the basis of evaluating "hard" data) are verified by frequent case studies because of their limited explanatory power. In these case studies, especially qualitative approaches of evaluation are applied. Influence and validity of "soft" factors significantly increases with decreasing hierarchical level, so it is desirable to conduct empirical research at the municipal level. Diploma thesis aims to analyze "soft" factors of regional development and understand the nature of differences in socio-economic development at the municipal level in the inner periphery of Bohemia. The concept of the institutional thickness has become the theoretical basis. This concept has logical overlap to the concept of the social capital. The objects of research are the spatial co-operation of actors of regional development (mayors), their reciprocal trust and engagement in local activities. Thesis aims to identify and to explain the nature of relations, direction of interactions and impact of political...
Social abd human capital as a factor of development of peripheral areas of Czechia
Pileček, Jan
Within the framework of the research focused on the polarization of space, or peripheral areas of Czechia respectively, approaches of cultural geography have been applied to a significant extent recently. As far as the issue of such areas development is concerned, the importance of the so- called "soft" socio-cultural development factors (including social and human capital) has been accentuated. The way-out is the belief that with the limited development potential of the peripheral (and rural) areas, activity and activism of local communities (quality of social and human capital) as the important internal (endogenous) development factor become more important. Despite the number of attempts, which have been made, we are not able to find exhaustive answers to questions relating to the actual importance of social and human capital (and different forms thereof) in the (socio-economic) development of these areas or the mutual relation (conditionality) thereof. For this reason, problems can be seen both in the area of theory and methodology (conceptualization) and, in particular, in insufficient verification of such theoretical concepts by means of empirical research, be specific in particular at the micro-regional up to local level. The dissertation therefore focuses on identification and explanation of...

The role of local actors in socio-economic development of west Bohemia border
Svoboda, Jan ; Komárek, Marek (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Petr (referee)
The following bachelor thesis aims to spread not only current theoretical, but especially empirical, knowledge about the role of local development actors in a different socio-economic state of municipalities located on the border peripheries of Czechia. The initial concept of assessment of all findings is the so-called "institutional thickness". The primary data analysed in this paper were obtained from 24 semi-structured interviews with mayors of local municipal councils. The main goal of this research is to understand and clarify, based on the analysis of semi- structured interviews, the density of social interactions in local development of municipalities. Since the interviews cover the entire Cheb county area, it was possible not only to evaluate partial social interactions, but also to compare those interactions within the whole area of the county (e.g. between smaller administrative units and others spatial entities). Conclusions of this thesis were also compared with other similar work done on the inner periphery of eastern Czechia between 2016 and 2017. The most important results are a confirmation of the key role of mayors in a local development, the active approach of local governance to participating in microregional unions is also very significant. The internal differentiation of...
