Charles University of Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medicinal Sciences Student: Bc. Veronika Hončová Supervisor: Doc. MUDr. Josef Herink, DrSc. Consultant: MUDr. Jela Hrnčiarová Title: Signs of the temporolimbic dysfunction in gamblers Background: The aim of this thesis was to determine whether pathological gamblers exhibit symptoms related to epileptic spectrum disorder. Methods: To investigate, symptoms of the temporolimbic dysfunction were examined by means of the structured questionnaires CPSI (Complex Partial Symptoms Inventory) and LSCL-33 (Limbic System Checklist-33). Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used for statistical evaluation. Results: The mean score in the questionnaire CPSI of gamblers was 38,9 points, which is an abnormal score. With the questionnaire LSCL-33, the mean score of 21,5 points, corresponds to suspected findings. From the mean results it can be concluded that pathological gamblers may have a higher incidence of the symptoms of the temporolimbic dysfunction. When comparing the groups of gamblers with smokers, it was evaluated that in the questionnaire CPSI was a statistically significant difference between the appearances of symptoms of epileptic spectrum disorder, while it was not in the...

Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Candidate: Bc. Jana Mičulková Consultant: Doc. MUDr. Josef Herink, DrSc. Title of Thesis: The temporo-limbic dysfunction in alcohol dependent persons This thesis is concerned on the temporo-limbic dysfunction of persons dependent on alcohol. The theoretical part summarizes the information about the neuroanatomical correlates, alcohol dependence syndrome, epidemiology of alcohol addiction in the Czech republic and the relationship between alcohol and epilepsy. The practical part includes evaluation of questionnaires filled out by alcohol dependent persons. These questionnaires are concerned on recognizing epilepsy spectrum disorder. The results are compared with the results obtained from previous studies in the healthy population and are used to evaluate other aims of this thesis. Keywords: alcohol dependence, epilepsy, epilepsy spectrum disorder, limbic system, questionnaire investigation
Neuroanatomical aspects of nonGmotor effects of deep brain stimulation

Summery The underlying mechanisms of weight gain and other affective and cognitive changes after initiation of deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease are still unclear. Considering the functional organization within the subthalamic nucleus (STN); limbic, associative and sensorimotor regions residing in the medial, central and later STN respectively, we hypothesized that weight gain may be related to medial localization of stimulation, while motor improvement may be related to lateral localization of stimulation within the STN (study 1). We further hypothesized that stimulation close to the limbic and associative part of the STN may be associated with negative impact on limbic system leading to enhanced anxiety and changes in the hypothalamic- pituitary- adrenal axis (HPA)(study 2). Therefore, the primary aims our study were to assess changes in body weight (study 1) and the hypothalamic- pituitary- adrenal axis (HPA) (study 2) in relation to the position of the active stimulating contact within the nucleus. ...

Bc. Žaneta Jakubová, Specialist in laboratory methods Signs of epilepsy spectrum disorder in persons with psychostimulants addiction Diploma thesis Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences, Background: The aim of this diploma thesis is to study the occurrence of symptoms of epileptic spectrum disorder in psychostimulant subjects and to demonstrate the effect of psychostimulants on the occurrence of this disorder. Methods: For questionnaire survey was used to collect the data, in which probands submitted a total of 3 questionnaires. Input anamnestic questionnaire to obtain general information, the remaining two are focused on symptoms of epileptic spectrum disorder - Complex Partial Seizure-like Symptoms Inventory (CPSI) and Limbic System Checklist-33 (LSCL-33). Statistical methods of percentage comparison, chi-square test and unpaired t-test were used for evaluation. Results: Unusual scores and scores for epileptic spectrum disorder reached a total of 60 % of respondents in the CPSI. In the LSCL-33 questionnaire, a suspect and abnormal score reached 100 % of respondents. Conclusions: Both hypotheses have been demonstrated, namely that psychostimulants influence the occurrence of symptoms of epileptic spectrum disorder and that...

v anglickém jazyce Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Author: Bc. Aneta Capranicová Title of diploma thesis: Osteoporosis, climacteric syndrome and signs of the temporolimbic dysfunction Objective of the thesis: The aim of the diploma thesis was to find out whether there will appear temporolimbic dysfunctions in women attending the osteoporotic clinic at the Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové and compare their results with the results of a healthy population. Methods: Two standardized questionnaires - CSPI and LSCL-33 - were used to assess the occurrence of epileptic spectrum disorders. The Microsoft Office Excel was used to process the results. Results: It was found that the women population reaches score points corresponding to the healthy population. In the CSPI questionnaire, the average value was 7.6 and for the LSCL-33 5.5 points. From these results it can be assumed that osteoporosis and climacteric syndrome does not affect the occurrence of epileptic spectrum disorders. To confirm the results, I would recommend the study to be repeated in a group with a larger number of respondents. For comparison with gamblers or smokers, both groups show a higher incidence of epileptic spectrum disorders than the group of women...

v anglickém jazyce Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Author: Bc. Vladimíra Nováková Supervisor: Doc. MUDr. Josef Herink, DrSc. Title of diploma thesis: Signs of the temporolimbic dysfunction in epileptics The diploma thesis deals with signs of the temporolimbic dysfunction in epileptics and it is divided into the two main parts. The theoretical part summarized the issue of the temporo-limbic dysfunction. Then a survey of the basic knowledge of epilepsy with concentration on characteristic of temporal epilepsy is given. The practical part is targeted to the questionnaire chosen evaluation and of the working hypotheses confirmation. The main aim of the diploma thesis was the incidence of the epilepsy spectrum disorder evaluation. Keywords: temporal lobe, limbic system, temporal epilepsy, temporolimbic dysfunction, questionnaire assessment

Bc. Lucie Špuláková Signs of epilepsy spectrum disorder in drug-dependent persons Diploma thesis Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Sciences Specialist in laboratory methods Objectives: The objective of this diploma thesis was to demonstrate the signs of epile- psy spectrum disorder in risk group of drug-dependent persons. Methods: We investigated the signs of epilepsy spectrum disorder by questionnaire survey - specifically by questionnaires Limbic System Checklist-33 (LSCL-33) and Complex Partial Seizure-like Symptoms Inventory (CPSI). We used statistical methods for results evaluation - the percentage comparison, chi-square test, and Spearman corre- lation coefficient. Results: The questionnaire survey demonstrated a significant shift towards abnormal values for both questionnaires. Abnormal score was achieved by 77 % respondents for questionnary LSCL-33, suspected score was achieved by 19 % respondents. Score for epilepsy spektrum disorder was achieved by 32 % respondents for questionnary CPSI and 45 % respondents showed unusual values. Conclusions: Signs of epilepsy spectrum disorder in drug-dependent persons was thus proved. The incidence is higher than in ordinary population and population of smokers. It was also...
