Legal regulation of public librarianship Abstract: This diploma thesis focuses on legal regulation of public librarianship. It is divided into two main parts. Part I deals with the actual state of legal regulation in this field. It presents an overview, a detailed analysis and evaluation of all librarianship-related legislation. Following chapters are dedicated to copyright aspects of library services, personal data protection and the institute of obligatory copy. This first part concludes with suggestions where and how the current regulation could be improved. Part II brings historical comparison of three library acts. Czech librarianship was from the very beginning of the existence of independent Czechoslovakia influenced by special legal regulations - library legislation. Fundamental directives, which were adopted in the course of approx. 80 years [Law No. 430/1919 Coll. - The General Public Libraries Act, Law No. 53/1959 Coll. - the Unified System of Libraries Act (Librarian Act) and Law No. 257/2001 Coll., on Libraries and Terms of Operating Public Library and Information Services (Library Act)] were very dissimilar; each addressed the issue differently and from a different perspective depending on the political and social situation of the time. Trends in legislations of online publications legal deposit in European countries

Purpose of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze current legislative documents on legal deposit of online publications of selected European countries (Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, United Kingdom and Spain) through translation and interpretation of parts concerning definitions of terms, subject and acquisition of legal deposit of online publications and its access to users. Based on these translations and interpretations then compare them between each other and also in context of the UNESCO Guidelines for Legal Deposit Legislation. In the end of the thesis present recommendations for new Czech republic legislation.

Presentation of Library Services to the Public : Analysis of Current Situation in the Netherlands and Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to compare the actual presentation and communication of library services to the public in the Dutch and Czech public libraries. Monitored were primarily legislative frameworks of mentioned countries, branch organizations and their marketing activities supporting public libraries. Theoretical knowledge was supplemented by practical findings gained during the study tour undertaken in the Netherlands. During this study tour were identified specific methods of promotion of public library services. Thesis explores these methods and outlines the possibility inspiration from Dutch library practice. The work proposes an innovation of Czech public library services using the retail concept as part of the open access collections, which was observed and verified in the Netherlands. The final comparison of selected factors on the national level provides a brief overview of librarianship in both countries.

The current state of affairs and future of museum's libraries in Prague

(in English): The thesis describes the current situation and possible development of museum libraries in Prague. Its aim is to assess the current state of museum libraries in Prague, using a questionnaire survey accomplished in early 2011. In the descriptive part of the thesis is first briefly mentioned the history and basic legislation of museum libraries in Prague. Then follows a detailed description of the current state according to the specifics (founders, focus and scope of the collections, acquisition and processing of library collections, services and access to the collections, digitization, library presentation on the Internet, the current methods of financing options for museum libraries, library position within the museum etc.), activities and cooperation of the museum libraries in Prague and the illustrated examples of four museum libraries in Prague (National Museum Library, Library of the Jewish Museum in Prague, Library of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and Library of National Technical Museum). In further part of the thesis is described in detail survey questionnaire method based on established facts and summary by the current state of museum libraries in Prague and their respective strengths and weaknesses. The current state of affairs and future of museum's libraries in Bohemia

(in English): The thesis presents overview of current state of museum libraries in Bohemia. It relies on the results of questionnaire specifically made for this purpose. Focus is also on library collections of museum libraries (acquisition, processing, accessibility and conservation), self-presentation of libraries on Internet, means of financing of such institutions and their activities. The thesis also overviews history of museum libraries on the case of four individual institutions, legal regulations pertaining to them and to their collections, as well as cooperation possibilities between other museum libraries, general libraries or other institutions. The thesis concludes with resume of strengths and weaknesses of current state of affairs in the field and anticipates future development of museum libraries.
