Hospice Care in the Eyes of the Public
HAVLÍČKOVÁ, Hana
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of hospice care. Its goal is to compare the perception of hospice care of those people who had some personal experience with it and those who have not dealt with it. Another goal is to find out how this experience affects their perspective of dying. To achieve these goals the quantitative research strategy has been used. The method of data collecting has been realized via questionnaires. The researching cohort consisted of individuals whose relatives used the services of sv. Jan N. Neumann Hospice in Prachatice and also of the individuals who have not used such services. 89 respondents have participated on these questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested by the contingency table, chi-squared test and the T-test. The results of the research have shown that the experience with hospice care affects the potential selection of hospice care for the respondent himself or for his relatives. It also affects the appropriateness of hospice care for the last days of a dying person, and it projects into the appraisal of deceasing in hospice. The experience with hospice care also affects the arrangements for death - those with no experience are more likely unprepared. On the other hand, the experience with hospice care has not affect the appraisal of deceasing at home as a proper place for dying. It does not even have an impact on whether the respondents think or talk about their own mortality. The experience with hospice care also does not affect their opinion about the necessity of increasing the support and the public awareness about this type of care. It also does not affect the amount of fear or anxiety about respondent's death. With the issue of awareness about hospice care those respondents who had previous experiences with hospice care proved more knowledge. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to encourage the public awareness about hospice care.
The nurse's work from the public's point of view
HÁJKOVÁ, Markéta
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to map the view of the lay public on the profession of a nurse. The theoretical part refers about the development of nursing and the nursing profession throughout history. Furthermore, the work deals with the view of the nurse at present, describes her image and education of nurses at present, and also introduces us to the image of the nurse at the media, including factors that affects the view of the general public.3 hypotheses were used to explore the topic. H1: The perception of the role of nurses is influenced by the gender of the general public. H2: The perception of the prestige of the sisters is affected by the education of the general public. H3: The opinion of the general public on the profession of nurses is affected by the media image. To verify the hypothesis, a quantitative survey was demonstrated, by the form of a questionnaire for the general public. The complete number of returned compliant questionnaires was 195. The resulting data were further processed in the form of graphs or tables and the hypothesis was evaluated by the use of statistics. From the results of the survey, we found out that the lay public, during the first thinking about nurses, contemplates about help. However, we were interested in whether the perception of the role of nurses is influenced by the gender of the public, and due to differences in other elected answers, H1 was confirmed. We were also investigated whether the perception of the prestige of nurses is influenced by the education of the general public. Most of the respondents have a positive view of the prestige of the nurse profession. These respondents were mostly the ones with the highest secondary education with a high school diploma. There were also sufficiently represented other categories of educational attainment and after the evaluation of the data we found out, that the perception of the prestige of the nurses is not influenced by the education of the general public. H2 was therefore rejected. During the last hypothesis, we were interested in whether the public opinion on nurses is influenced by the media image. Most of the respondents think that the media does influence the public's view of nurses. H3 was therefore confirmed.

Introduction: The subjective perception of health and diseases is a factor affecting health condition of every one of us. Many times, in health facilities we meet with laymen who do not know the definitions of health, diseases and often they also do not know which factors damage their health. That can result in trivialization of the problems or overuse of medical services. Objectives of the thesis: The thesis aims to find out how does the lay audience in the Vysočina Region perceive health and disease, what it does for its health and how would it describe health promoting and health threating behavior. Methodology: For fulfilling the objectives the qualitative form of the research using semi-structured interview with twenty informants from lay audience was utilized. The selection of informants was intentional on the basis of preset criteria. It was ten men and women of various age categories. The gathered data were then literally rewritten and analyzed. Results: It turns out that perception of health and disease is highly individual, and many factors play a role in it. Many times, the idea of informants diverge from available literature. The difference in perception is apparent even in determination of the boundary between health and disease. The results shown that people who underwent some mild illness in the past and now they are in good health do not feel healthy. On the other hand, informants suffering from chronic disease do feel healthy. From the perspective of perceived risk factors which could damage health the informants mostly mentioned environment in which the individual grows up. It was also found out that most people do not do the maximum for their health and that they do realize their shortcomings. Conclusion: Knowledge of perceiving health and disease appears as very substantial due to need of education and prevention. In this regard it is mainly beneficial for offices of general practitioners which are in primary care and very often educate and inform their patients in the area of health and healthy lifestyle.

HANZALÍKOVÁ, Lucie
The aim of the present Bachelor thesis entitled "Social and legal aspects of punishment house arrest", is to describe situation "de lege lata" and the actual progress of its execution and also, to describe the advantages and disadvantages of punishment house arrest and depict the public attitude to the house arrest sentence in the district of České Budějovice, The thesis is devided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes alternative sentences in general and defines the house arrest sentence. The practical part is based on a study. At the beginning, the aims of the study and three research questions are introduced. The first question: Do the legal arrangements and actual execution of the house arrest sentence correspond to the current European trends? The second question: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the house arrest sentence? The third question: What is the level of lay public's legal awarness of the house arrest sentence? The study is based on a quantitative research strategy. The data were collected by means of questioning via standardized forms and patterned interviews. The form research sample included 150 respondents from České Budějovice, chosen at random. The interview reaserch sample included 4 respondents of the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic in South Bohemian region. At the beginning, all the respondents were advised on the future progress of the study and on the consequences of the use of acquired data. Also, they were informed that the filling in the forms and the participation in the interview were anonymous. Afterwards, the respondents answered prepared questions. Within the research, the following hypothesis were defined: H1: The legal arrangements of the house arrest sentence are adequate, while the actual execution of the house arrest does not equal the current European trends. The lay public's legal awarness of the house arrest sentence is very poor. H2: Compared to the prison sentence, the advantages of the house arrest sentence outweigh its disadvantages. H3: The lay public's legal awarness of the house arrest sentence is very poor. The chosen hypothesis have been confirmed. The results of the study have shown that the lay public's awarness of the legal aspects were not sufficiant and its attitude towards this kind of sentence was rather positive. Most of the respondents obtained a high school degree completed with the final exam ("maturita") and claimed to have been informed about the house arrest sentence via televison. Nevertheless, they suffer from a certain lack of information in the field of legal aspects. Compared to the prison sentence, the house arrest sentence seems to manifest more advantages than disadvantages. In the same time, the Czech legal arrangements of the house arrest sentence is adequate while the actual execution of the house arrest sentence doesn't correspond to the current European trends. This thesis can contribute to the better public knowledge of the house arrest sentence. Also, it could be used as an auxiliary manual for the high school students, e.g. in the filed of social-legal studies. Eventually, it could serve as a source of information for the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic.
Intensive care from perspective of the lay public
Vengrínová, Jaroslava ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Lišková, Iveta (referee)
The diploma thesis consists of two parts: Theoretical and Empirical. The Theoretical Part explains the basic meaning of the expression Intensive Care, the types of Intensive Care, its history and provides a description of an intensive care workplace and the health personnel working in Intensive Care (their education and competence). The thesis also deals with patients in Intensive Care and their needs. The objective of the Empirical Part was to ascertain the Czech general public knowledge and attitudes towards Intensive Care, their experience with Intensive Care as a patient or a person close to the patient. The methodology of the Empirical Part consists in a survey using questionnaires among Czech general public. The questionnaire was answered by 259 respondents. On the basis of statistical evaluation of respondents' data made by a statistics computer program, we found out the Czech general public is able to define the notion of Intensive Care and those who had their own experience with an intensive care workplace described the setting of the place as positive, which was a surprising finding. However, we also found out the respondents of our survey still lack information, and they would, therefore, appreciate to receive an information leaflet whenever entering into contact with an intensive care...
Comprehensive care of person with Alzheimer's disease
ŘEHOŘOVÁ, Andrea
The thesis deals with the comprehensive care for a person with Alzheimer`s disease. As the population gets old, also the number of people with Alzheimer{\crq}s disease has been growing. Pursuant the survey, approx. 5 % population in the age of 65 years suffers from the middle up to high degree of dementia; thereof the Alzheimer{\crq}s disease represents 50{--}60 %. Its frequency roughly doubles every five years. Alzheimer{\crq}s disease is approximately the fourth most frequent cause of all the death cases. The main goals is to find out the extent of knowledge of lay public about Alzheimer{\crq}s disease in the South Bohemian region. Hereby we mean the information about the care, possibilities of healing, symptoms and prevention of Alzheimer{\crq}s disease. In connection with these goals the H1 hypothesis was postulated: The lay public was informed of Alzheimer{\crq}s disease. For achieving the given goal, the method of questioning, the technology of the questionnaire was used. 280 questionnaires were distributed among the persons older than 18 years and they were returned in 86 %. In total, 241 questionnaires were filled in, thereof 230 were filled in correctly and also evaluated. As the most important questions for confirming or not confirming the hypothesis the author determined questions concerning the knowledge of the AD treatment, AD symptoms, knowledge of facilities, consulting centre as well as other activities for the people with AD, occurrence of AD and forms of treatment. It followed from the results that H1 hypothesis was not confirmed. Two partial targets were postulated for the given issue for the completeness sake. The first partial target was to describe the medically social issue of Alzheimer{\crq}s disease including its impact on all the spheres of the life of man: i.e. biological, psychological as well as social spheres. The second partial goal concerned the survey of services for persons with Alzheimer{\crq}s disease and their families in the South Bohemian Region. This thesis may be utilized in future as source of information about Alzheimer{\crq}s disease for the students of Faculty of Health and Social Studies in České Budějovice and for persons from the lay public who would like to learn more of Alzheimer{\crq}s disease.
