Learner goals and attitudes to mistakes from an ELT and ELF perspective

The present research focuses on students' attitudes and preferences towards English language learning at Czech private language schools. In essence, the thesis focuses on unearthing the relationship and attitudes of students towards language mistakes, goals, and creativity. The study approaches language learning from more and less norm-bound perspectives and the English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) paradigm is introduced. In connection with the main focus of the research the intention is also to detect tendencies that could hint at the suitability of integrating knowledge about ELF into English Language Teaching (ELT). To obtain original data from the selected target group I conducted a mixed-method research (a questionnaire survey and in-class observations). The key concepts discussed are: mistakes, learner goals, learner needs, accuracy and language creativity (or 'languaging'). Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone by James Baldwin: translation and stylistic analysis of three representative fragments

This bachelor thesis is focused on the problems which may occur, while translating from English into Czech, using the novel Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone by the American author James Baldwin. The practical part contains chosen extracts from The House Nigger. The theoretical part aims at the analysis of my translation. Special attention is paid to the problematic sections, which have been encountered while translating. Final decisions are provided with my comments often with regard to the helpful quotes from the books dealing with translation theories, especially by Jiří Levý and Dagmara Knittlová. Kefíref as marfketing fenomen

The thesis Kefírer: the marketing phenomenon aims to analyse this unusual Czech brand that is based on Adolf Hitler parody. The brand gained attention due to black humour communication connected to Hitler and became very popular. Nevetheless, it was just a short- time effect. Firstly, the thesis presents the brand creation and the brand development and compares this case to similar trends. The next part describes marketing, marketing communications and brand building related to Kefírer. The next chapter analyses the specifics of marketing texts especially from the point of stylistics. The following part states the fundings of the research conducted by the author. Revealed facts allow to clarify brand attitude and efficiency of marketing communications. The last chapter aims to evaluate the unique case of Kefírer and give a recommendation for the other brands.
