The Copenhagen criteria and their fulfilment by Turkey and Croatia

Diploma thesis "The Copenhagen criteria and their fulfilment by Turkey and Croatia" deals with description of stadium of fulfilment of political and economical criteria by Turkey and Croatia. First chapter deals with enlargement of the European Union and especially with the eastern enlargement. There is also description of formation of Copenhagen criteria and their parts. Second and third chapter handle with the description of relationships between EU and both candidate countries and the stadium of fulfilment of the criteria. In final part there is a summary of gathered results.
Current status of the European Union Integration Process

This thesis aims to analyse current status of the European Union Integration Process. Firstly, the historical development of the European Union Integration Process is introduced. Its knowledge contributes to a better understanding of present incentives leading to the European Integration. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on a framework of the Accession Process applied by the Union in relation to countries willing to join this community. Within the Accession Process the mandatory criteria are also defined. That means for an applicant country a necessity to meet these conditions before entering the EU. Moreover, the financial assistance intended for the candidate countries and potential candidates is described. The main contribution of this thesis consists in analysing the Accession Process of five candidate countries, namely of Croatia, Iceland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey and Montenegro. This section describes each candidate in terms of the Accession Process development, perspective of joining the EU and financial assistance provided by the Union. Lastly, the economic activity of candidate countries is evaluated and the possible impacts on the European Union in case of their integration are presented.
The issue of Turkey entering into the European union

This bachelor thesis is divided into three parts. The first one is devoted to the adjusting of the integrational process into the EU. The history of the EU, Copenhagen criteria necessary for entering of a country into the EU and the current candidate countries are presented to the reader in more details. In the second part, Turkey is characterised in the light of integration according to its geographical-political and social-economic aspect. The third chapter deals with Turkish association tendencies in the light of the EU -- it is eximened as a candidate country. The attitudes of the other EU-members are mentioned, also at the end SWOT-analysis is created. The attitude of the EU-members are also mentioned at the end of this chapter and SWOT analysis completes the whole research.
Comparison of the political and economic indicators of selected Balkan countries in context of efforts to join EU

The aim of the work is to comparate readiness of selected Balkan states for membership in European Union. I will target the former Republic of Macedonia, which has already been granted candidate status in 2005 and the Serbia and the Montenegro, which have the status of potentional candidates. The first section will focus on historical context, which effect the current political and economic situation. In the second part, I will make comparison of selected Balkan states in implementation of economic kriteria (particuraly the GDP, GDP growth rate, GDP per capita, unemployment, functioning market economy) and political criteria (human rights, democratic government, rule of law), which are part Copenhagen criteria for EU accession. Finally, I appraise the results of the comparison of the indicators listed above and recommend the time when these countries could be accepted.
Economic and political aspects of integration of Turkey into the EU.

This thesis in three chapters, objectively and impartially summarizes the key economic and political integration of Turkey into the EU and refers to any present or future pros and contras associated with joining the EU. First chapter focuses particularly on the economic situation of the country, current and future important energetic position of Turkey and Turkish demographic projections. Second chapter analyzes the army's role in the country and its potential ability to protect the EU external borders. The chapter also seeks to offer a comprehensive look at the circumstances and causes of the Cyprus question, turkish good-neighborly relations and the persistent instability in the underdeveloped regions of the country, coupled with Kurdish separatism in the southeast and the so-called "Armenian genocide". For better understanding of the benefits and risks of selected political and economic aspects are tables in the beginning of chapters. Final chapter outlines the current situation of Turkey's accession process, briefly acquainted with the Copenhagen criteria, analyzing the Commission's progress report on Turkey in 2009 and finally outlines the probable developments of the possible variations of the Union and Turkey relation and describes the potential impacts on the EU and Turkey in case of refusal of membership.
The Copenhagen Criteria and their significance for Turkey's accession into the EU

This bachelor thesis explains the significance of the Copenhagen Criteria. These criteria evaluate candidates for EU membership according to three aspects: political, economic and legislative. This evaluation is published annually by the European Commission under the name Progress Report. The thesis also describes the EU accession process. The practical part of the paper examines Turkey's fulfillment of these criteria.

The paper gives a picture of Turkey`s readiness for the membership in the EU. The Copenhagen criteria serve as a base for illustration of the status quo of Turkey`s preparation process. As Turkey`s negotiation process has already last for several decades, the first part of the thesis briefly describes the development of relations between EU and Turkey. The second part concentrates on the Copenhagen criteria and explains its origins as well as its content. Finally, the last part of thesis examinates to what extent Turkey fulfills the given areas of political and economic Copenhagen criteria. The focus was given on the most problematic areas as the main aim was to explain the origins of these problems and consequent obstacles Turkey has to tackle.
Vývoj malých ekonomik střední Evropy od druhé poloviny 90. let

Práce se zabývá ekonomickým vývojem České republiky, Slovenska a Maďarska od 2. poloviny 90. let. Jelikož země usilovaly o vstup do EU, byl ekonomický vývoj hodnocen především z pohledu plnění přístupových (kodaňských) kritérií. První kapitola popisuje společné prvky daných zemí (definice malých ekonomik, členství ve Visegrádské skupině, vstup do EU 1. května 2004). Druhá kapitola vymezuje prvky hodnocení jednotlivých zemí, jako jsou základní makroekonomické ukazatele a hodnocení Evropské komise?posudek z roku 1997 a souhrnná zpráva z roku 2003 o připravenosti kandidátských zemí na vstup do EU. Třetí, čtvrtá a pátá kapitola popisují ekonomický vývoj v České republice, na Slovensku a v Maďarsku s zřetelem na plnění ekonomických kritérií vymezených Evropskou unií na summitu v Kodani v roce 1993.

Součástí práce je přístupový proces České republiky do Evropské Unie, který byl založen mimo jiné i na plnění kodaňských kritérií.
