Martha E. Williams (1934-2007), her work and her significance for information science

The purpose of the thesis is to describe life and work of Martha E. Williams related to library and information science. The thesis introduces private life of Martha E. Williams, her professional development in the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute in Chicago and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her activities in professional library associations and academic awards given to her. The core of the thesis is made of thorough analysis of individual works, activities and projects that Martha E. Williams conducted or significantly participated in. Martha E. Williams contributed to development of databases and information industry, worked as an editor of register of Computer-Readable database (CRDB) and of serial Annual Review of Information Science and Technology (ARIST). Furthemore, Martha E. Williams devoted her time systematically to transparency of information retrieval, database classification and evaluation, usage data, analysis of governmental and private databases and the role of libraries and information centers in the era of rapid expansion of databases.

The primary aim of the thesis "Rural Tourism in South Bohemian Region" was the evaluation of the rural tourism offer in South Bohemian Region and the submission of appropriate suggestions. The secondary aim was to describe South Bohemian Region, to analyse actual documents relating to the tourism in the region and to create and evaluate SWOT analysis of tourism in the region.

The diploma thesis deals with the essential factors, which influence the satisfaction of the customers using services of the information centres. The main goal of the thesis is to identify these factors by means of primary research. The primary research is focused on both the domestic and the foreign visitors and reveals the demands, which determine the quality of services of information centres. Furthermore, the quality of the services, which were really provided to the customers by information centres, is evaluated within the thesis. The examined information centres are located in the Středočeský region including Prague, Liberec region and Pardubice region. For the identification of the quality of the services the model SEVQUAL was used. The outcomes of the research inform about the current situation regarding the quality of the services of the information centres. Finally, the recommendations to enhance the quality of information centres are formulated on the basis of primary research results.
Guide services in historical seats of the Czech Republic

The work is concerned with the analysis of the guide services in some historical seats of the Czech Republic. The first part defines basic concepts - guide services and a historical seat. The second part characterizes guide services as a whole and is concerned with history and present of guide services in historical seats (towns/cities). The third part contains the analysis of questionairres answered by information centre workers and the fourth part summarizes recommendations for improvement of the guide services in the towns/cities.
