Nutrition of patients with ileostomy
VOTAVOVÁ, Markéta
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to determine a nutritional condition of patients with ileostomy and preferences and restrictions of their nutrition. The research ensemble was consisted of 11 adult respondents, of whom 9 respondents had ileostomy, 1 woman had colostomy and 1 woman had jejunostomy. The research was processed qualitatively in the form of structured interview, a weekly food diary record and an anthropometric measurement (BMI, arm circumference and waist circumference). For the interview was prepared 48 questions focused on personal data, eating habits and a consumption of individual types of beverages and food. The recorded responses were literally rewritten and then were individually evaluated for each respondent. The food diary forms were prepared for the respondents and after filling were processed in the Nutriservis program. The identified average nutritional values were compared with the recommended daily need of energy and nutrients. Most of the respondents had a lack of energy and nutrients in the food diary. BMI values showed that most respondents were overweight or had the first degree obesity and the waist circumference values showed a high risk of cardiovascular disease for most respondents. Depending on the values of the arm circumference, there was found no risk of malnutrition for any respondents. The responses showed that an eating option for ileostomy patients is completely individual and there is no strict dietary regime. A big influence on eating had personal taste preferences, elapsed time from surgery and a cause of ileostomy. The results of this research may serve employees in healthcare facilities to inform patients with ileostomy but, above all, the results may be used by patients themselves, who may improve their orientation in eating and thus may prevent a possible occurrence of health complications.

Specific eating habits of a stoma clients
OSADČÍ, Jana
This work focuses on eating habits of patiens with colostomy and ileostomy and their personal experience with observing the given nourishing rules. The number of such patients has been growing in the Czech Republic in the last time. Introduction of colostomy or ileostomy is a very difficult situation for every patient. When adapting to the new situation the patient needs all possible professional care. Many changes enter his life and one of them is the change in eating habits. There is no universal diet at present that could go for all such patients. In spite of the fact that correct nourishment and drinking regime are the most important for them. That is why we were interested in the patients experience in the area of nourishment. This work had two targets. The first one concentrated on the specific eating habits of the patients after colostomy and the other one the specific eating habits of the patients after ileostomy. There were two hypotheses connected with the targets. The first hypothesis tried to find out, whether the patients with colostomy have their specific eating habits. The other hypothesis tried the same for the patients with ileostomy. To be able to achieve the targets a quantitative research has been applied, implemented by means of an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire contained 27 questions. The data were collected in March 2009. 100 questionnaires were distributed, 80 percent of them were returned. This work has confirmed the fact that there is no universal diet that could be applied for all the patients. The nourishment must adapt to the individual requirements, because different people react in a different way to individual food and they must try out, what suits them. In this way they themselves find out the best eating habits with the course of time, they will not feel restricted and they will stop being afraid of the negative effects of food.
