Philosophy as Passionate Interest
Strobachová, Ingrid ; Pinc, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Haškovcová, Helena (referee) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee)
The purpose of my dissertation is to analyze and further elaborate upon its main topic: the questions that are of a mutual deep interest to both medicine and philosophy. The dissertation has three parts. In the first part, I will introduce some of the key terms that will be used throughout the text. The second part, central to my work, is concerned with three possibilities that are offered to us - play and playing, dream and dreaming, poetic being - all become the places where comprehending, listening (to both the speech and the silence) and responding materialize. Playing, dreaming, poetic being - each offers our daily reality the beauty of transcending its borders without destroying them; in fact, they become a free spirited, passionate interest that enhances and makes valuable the ordinariness and finiteness of our daily lives. Freedom and Responsibility; I and the Other Person; Illness and Hope - each having its physical aspect and each being considered through the dimensions of seriousness and unseriousness, reason and unreason - will be rethought through playing, dreaming and poetic being, providing new insights of an engaged, passionate practice of philosophy and medicine. The third part, concerned with application on the two areas - I, the Child, and the Parenthood; and the Therapist and...
Motivation for playing games and motives behind different types of games
Foltman, Petr ; Psohlavec, Lukáš (advisor) ; Brtník, Tomáš (referee)
Title: Motivation for playing games and motives behind different types of games Objectives: The aim of this work is to give an overview of the principles of motivation, explain motivation for playing games, compare and create a summary of information and theories about motivation for playing games. Then the aim is to create an overview of motives in different types of games. Methods: This is a theoretical work with use of a method of analysis and synthesis. After an analysis and comparison of the literature review it is synthesized into shorter integrated form. Then we use deduction to link underlying motives to different game types. Results: We found that motivation is a very complex process that is difficult to study. The professional public is not in unison in questions of games definition, classification, purpose and motivation for it, except that children's play serves learning. The inquiry of motivation could be accelerated by the fairly new field of affective neuroscience. Keywords: needs, play, game classification, game categorization, game purpose.
Media image of gamers in czech mainstream and gaming media: during 2016 - 2018
Němečková, Petra ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with the image of gamers in Czech media, specifically in the most read daily newspapers. Videogames are still a rather marginal topic within the Czech society, gamers are perceived as weird and socially isolated individuals, and in the worst case they are described as addicted and aggressive. Predictions for the future say that digital games will become a regular part of our lives, but before this happens, I set myself the goal to find out how contemporary Czech media depict people who like to play videogames. This task is important because, whether we want it or not, media represents a reflection of our society and it is also an element that can influence public opinion to some extent. However, if there is a goal to educate public sphere or change the perception of the gaming community, it is necessary to find out what is the current situation among the Czech society. In the theoretical part I deal with the environment in which the media texts are created and their impact on the recipients of the given content. At the same time, I also explain to the reader how gamers really look like. The practical part examines the seven most widely read Czech newspapers Aha!, Blesk, E15, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. These are the best newspapers when it comes...

Economics of Gambling Behavior
Pištora, Vojtěch ; Skořepa, Michal (advisor) ; Lopušník, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis deals with gambling behavior, both from the point of view of decision theory and with regard to the Czech gambling experience. Gambling at actuarially unfair odds is commonplace, yet the standard model of consumer choice cannot explain this phenomenon owing to the usual assumption of risk aversion. Theories of decision under risk dealing with betting behavior and answering the question why people gamble are surveyed. The phenomenon can be explained by adjustments within the expected utility theory, but non-expected utility models provide an alternative approach that seems to be descriptively more accurate. In the second part fundamental points of the Czech gambling reality are covered with the aim to provide a comprehensive overview as a tool for future researchers. The empirical part proceeds with analysis of socio- economic determinants of gambling participation and expenditure, to our knowledge for the first time based on Czech data. Given the absence of specialized micro-level data, two independent data sources from general expenditure surveys have been used. Strong conclusions for public policy could not be reached but the analysis still provides valuable insights.
