I am here it is not
Daneková, Petra ; Hosnedlová, Klára (referee) ; Kohoutková, Karolína (advisor)
I have chosen the concept of mimicry, camouflage and disappearance because the subject of fusion and invisibility interests me. To vanish in the nature or in the city just with the help of body and clothes. For the purpose of this thesis I have created an outfit that will prove effectiveness of camouflage for the ordinary people watched by cameras everyday. By using this outfit I should find out whether digital devices are sophisticated enough to recognize a person even in the case that he has more legs or arms and his face is covered only with the eyes visible. In my thesis I am using several kinds of digital devices by which I am trying to figure out the effectiveness of created outfit. For comparation and better capture of person I have created two types of outfit. One of them is monochromatic while the second one, and more essential one, is printed with glitch. I am testing these two outfits both in exterior and interior. The outcome of the thesis are photographs and videos of person dressed in created outfits.

Glitch in new media art: Technological error as a subject of aesthetic interest
Šašek, Filip ; Souček, Martin (advisor) ; Šlerka, Josef (referee)
This thesis introduces the use of technological failure in visual arts, described as glitch art in the Anglo-American literature, and reveals its specific qualities. The author examines creative exploration of glitch both in image compression formats, and in the user interface of web sites, computer games or operating systems. In addition, the research presents arguments that advocate glitch art in a broader artistic discourse. It does so firstly by analogy, when it compares glitch art manifestations to conceptual and visual qualities of the paradigmatic works of art and artistic movements, and secondly by Dickie's institutional classification, when it analyzes glitch art communities and appreciation by the curatorial, critical and academic public. The central argument of this thesis is that glitch art next to a purely aesthetic experience provides an insight into the heart of technology, which exposes its functionality. Thus it contributes to a deeper understanding of its physical, structural and ideological fundamentals, that have become in everyday life almost invisible due to the logic of immediacy. Given the highly relative nature of the term glitch the thesis does not seek a hard definition of its specifics, but rather asks the cause of this naming (designation) that is why we perceive a...
Glitch and its social aspects in video game culture
Švelch, Jan ; Macek, Jakub (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
Glitch is becoming an important topic both in popular culture and academia. In 2012, Disney cast a glitch as a major character in its movie homage to arcade video games Wreck-It Ralph. More and more studies about glitch are emerging across various disciplines, from media studies to aesthetics. So far, researchers were focusing mostly on theoretical and technological aspects of the glitch. This Master's thesis aims to analyze the "everyday" glitch and the roles it plays in the video game culture, conducting a qualitative content analysis of online discussion forums of three recent hit video games: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first part of the thesis reviews the literature connected to the glitch and explains its connection to similar scientific concepts: error, noise and emergence. It also introduces different aspects and roles of the glitch, ranging from cheating and metagaming to humor and aberrant use. The second part consists of the analysis of online discussion forums concerning the player definition of the glitch, the process of finding and sharing the glitch and about the main aspects of the glitch from the viewpoint of active participants in online discussions: glitch as an error or a feature, patching the glitch, cheating, metagaming and humor. As...
