Unrealized library buildings - influence of the situation on operation and services

The diploma thesis deals with unrealised projects of new buildings or refurbishments of libraries in the Czech Republic. It is notionally split into two parts. The theoretical part contains the reasons, why to build library buildings today and actual requierements on these specific kind of buildings. The most important czech and foreign documents on this topic are presented. One specific part is dealing with funding of library high-priced projects and also examples of successfull projects. The main focus of work is a summary of six public libraries focussed on their poor space conditions. After this, gathered data are equated with each other, with recommended values in Standard of Public Information Library Services and with comparable data of libraries placed in new or reconstructed buildings. In conclusion, the author questions subjectively the future of these six libraries. Part of the thesis is also extensive supplement with photos and graphic visualizations of unrealised projects.

Marketing analysis of additional and extra services of libraries. Their importance for attendance and financial benefits

The aim of this work is to analyse an additional and extra services of libraries and their importance for attendance and financial benefits. Theoretical part describes marketing and its benefits for libraries, definition of a public library and services, brief analysis of financing libraries and analysis of some additional and extra services offered by Czech and foreign libraries. Practical part is devoted to analysis of history and the current situation in Tabor City Library and services it offers. There is also a research included in this section questioning whether readers know and use an additional and extra library services. This work presents analysis whether or not medium public library in the area of services meets reader's needs and also summary of additional and extra library services offered by Czech and foreign libraries. Development of Public Libraries of the Pilsen Region 1990-2010

This thesis analyzes the development of public libraries in the Pilsen Region in 1990-2010. The work focuses on the major issues of development of public libraries from the perspective of the Pilsen Region macrosystem, especially the volume of data and system changes. In the first three chapters are given general information about public libraries and their functions, information about the Pilsen Region (former West Region) and library legislation. The main characteristic of the work of bringing the two periods, 1990-1999 and 2000-2010, public libraries in the Pilsen Region. These chapters analyze the changes that affected the functioning of libraries in the monitored phases. The consequences of changes thesis looks through the selected statistical indicators of the years. These changes illustrated in graphic form furnished comments. The last section concludes and evaluates the development of public libraries of the Pilsen Region in 1990-2010. Thesis is equipped with text and spreadsheet attachments. [Author's abstract].

Current resources and opportunities of public libraries funding in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the current situation regarding the funding of public libraries in the Czech Republic. The introduction comprises a concise definition of the legislative framework for funding public libraries. In the main section of the work the author deals with the system of libraries providing public library and information services and how these libraries can be established. Then the analysis of the financial resources that can be used by these libraries follows, i.e. grants by founders, national and international programs and projects to support libraries, fundraising, donating, sponsoring, patronage, volunteering, grants by foundations, libraries' own business. There is also a description of pricing and financial policy, analysis of the financial management of libraries in various regions and the influence of the economic crisis on library budgets. The main part of the thesis related to the whole Czech Republic is followed by the part aimed only at the Central Bohemian. For analysis and description of financial resources and opportunities The Central Bohemian Research Library in Kladno, contributory organization has been selected.
