The aim of the present thesis is to translate Chapter IX. "The Rise of Terrorism" from Bernard Lewis's The Crisis of Islam from English into Czech and to lay out an analysis of the translation and the source text. The theoretical part includes source text analysis, typology of translation problems, typology of translation shifts and description of the selected translation method. A copy of the source text is attached.

The thesis focuses on translation of an extract of a dialogue from the book called Bezahlen die Frauen die Wiedervereinigung? and on commentary on this translation. Apart from the Introduction and Conclusion there are two parts that play central role: the Translation itself and the above mentioned Commentary. The Commentary consists of four chapters. Translation Analysis of the Original Text Based on Ch. Nord's Model describes extratextual and intratextual factors of the original text. Features of the Original Text and First Insights into Problems of Translation takes functional-structuralist approach, describing different levels of the language used, focuses on tricky parts in the translation and thus links the analysis of the original with the translation. Method of Translation sets strategy for the translation of the original, based on conclusions of the two previous chapters. Typology of Translation Solutions and Unavoidable Shifts - Concrete Examples puts the method into practice, gives examples and comments on problems.
