Developmental coordination disorder and use of MABC-2 assessment for evaluation of children 3-10 years old with consideration of term of birth and birth weight.
Ducháčková, Iveta ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
The bachelor thesis entitled "Developmental Coordination Disorder and Use of MABC-2 Assessment for Evaluation of Children 3-10 Years Old with Consideration of Term of Birth and Birth Weight" deals in its theoretical part with the latest knowledge on the prevalence of the condition, possible aetiologies, diagnostic aspects, clinical picture, comorbidities and therapeutic strategies. In the practical part, the motor skills of 52 typical children were assessed using the MABC-2 test. The children were categorized based on their birth term and birth weight, specifically into those born at full term and those born preterm, i.e. before the 37th week. The aim of the practical part was, firstly, to compare the results obtained and, secondly, to determine whether correlations exist between birth term, birth weight, and the MABC-2 test results. While statistically significant correlations were not demonstrated in the tested subjects, noticeable differences in mean values of all three MABC-2 components and the total MABC-2 test score were observed.
Lives of families with autism
KALÍŠKOVÁ, Iveta
The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to find out how a diagnosis of a child with ASD influenced the life of the family. The analysis of the information obtained from the interviews provided a lot of knowledge. At the same time, answers to individual research questions were found, the research questions were focused on the normal day of a family with a child with ASD, changes between partners after obtaining the diagnosis and the extent to which the diagnosis affected the overall life of the family. The research was carried out using a qualitative research strategy, and using the technique of a semi-structured interview with parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. For this type of research, questions were prepared in advance and adjusted during the interview. The research survey was conducted with twelve informants-parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. Thanks to open coding, ten basic categories have been found. It was clear from the interviews that every child with ASD, even while having the same diagnosis, differs from the others in their manifestations. The statements of the mothers intersected mainly in the area of the stereotypical life of the children, but at the same time they agreed on having relieved emotions after the diagnosis. The parents suddenly felt more confident and stopped doubting their alleged failure in parenting. The informants cited wider family relationships and the time-consuming care as major problems. After finding out the diagnosis, certain changes have taken place in the relations between the partners. Although the diagnosis was the cause of the breakdown of the partnership in some families, in others it led to the strengthening and deepening of cooperation between the partners. The elaboration of this topic not only helped me to broaden my view in the field of autism spectrum disorders, but even enriched me with new friendly relationships with families. The research included in the bachelor's thesis can help spread information about autism spectrum disorders and at the same time show parents that they are not alone with this diagnosis.
Use of ABA therapy in children with PAS in the Czech Republic
SLOBODA, Tereza
This bachelor´s thesis deals with the subject of using ABA therapy for children diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder. I am interested in this type of therapy. ABA is a scientific methodology in which concrete therapeutic methods are used within interventions therefore I use the ABA therapy connection in my work. Bacherlor´s thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. Theoretical part focuses on autistic spectrum disorders, aetiology, most affected areas, introducing ABA and common methods and current legislation, possibility of ABA studies in the Czech Republic. Practical part deals with a case study of a boy from birth to seven years. After his autism diagnosis he has begun ABA therapy and today he is attending the only special elementary and nursery school using the ABA methods. Although opinions on ABA differ I would like to show how the ABA strategies can be used in special schools. This method could be useful for children who are resistant to other forms of therapy. The potentiality of ABA method could improve living standards of the client and his surroundings because autism has enormous impact on social and family ties. The aim of the thesis is to show the progress in ABA therapy and the possibility of using ABA therapy as one of the methods of educating children with ASD or combined disorders and to develop their skills and abilities in spite of their handicap.

Mejsnarová, Alena ; Demeková, Júlia (advisor) ; Kobesová, Alena (referee)
The bachelor thesis called "Postpoliomyelitis syndrome - etiology and RHB treatment options" deals with issues of this illness, officially recognized as a separate diagnosis until less than thirty years ago. The postpoliomyelitis syndrome can develop in individuals who have experienced poliomyelitis, an infectious viral disease affecting cells of the spinal anterior horns, in their childhood or youth. The main symptoms of this syndrome are: muscle weakness, increased fatigue, muscle and joint pain. They usually appear after a period lasting at least 15 years after primary infection, during which the health state of these individuals is relatively stable. The thesis presents a wide range of pathophysiological processes responsible for the etiology of these so-called late effects of polio. It also deals with the clinical picture, diagnosis and reflects the mental condition of the affected individuals. A large part of this thesis is addressed to therapy of postpolio syndrome, especially rehabilitation, which is an important part of comprehensive care of these patients. It is a literature retrieval of available, mostly foreign sources, dealing with this topic. Also one case report is described at the end of the theoretical part.
