The energy crisis and its possible solutions in a selected municipality in the Czech Republic
NOVOTNÁ, Karolína
The thesis focuses on the energy crisis and its alternative solutions within a selected municipality. Three research methods were used in the thesis, namely a questionnaire survey, a household real consumption survey and a semi-structured interview. The aim of the thesis was to find an alternative solution and then to determine the willingness of the residents of the selected municipality to accept it, given a higher price offer, in relation to the completed education of the individual and his/her income category. A biogas plant located near the selected village was offered as an alternative source of electricity, where the aforementioned interview was also conducted. The interview served to establish the feasibility of this proposed solution. The work was conducted as a community energy sector model where the biggest source would be a biogas plant.
Demand for gas: Evidence from the 2022 energy crisis
Stuchlík, Jan ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Opatrný, Matěj (referee)
This thesis analyzes the effects of the 2022 energy crisis on changes in consump- tion patterns among Czech households, with the main focus on natural gas and other energy sources. We captured the effects using income and cross-price elas- ticity of expenditure shares of various goods. We calculated these elasticities from estimated parameters of a quadratic almost ideal demand system. The system parameters were estimated using the iterated feasible generalized non- linear least squares method on household-level data collected by PAQ Research. Demand for gas is income-elastic during the energy crisis, contrasting with other energy sources. Households made significant adjustments to their consumption of luxury goods and necessities in response to the high energy prices. The cross- price elasticity estimates show a decrease in expenditure shares of luxury goods and distant heat in relation to higher gas prices. Reduced healthcare and trans- port expenditure shares and increased solid fuels expenditure shares are related to higher electricity prices. In response to rising prices of necessities, households generally decrease expenditure shares of luxury goods. Households' reactions to the energy crisis are heterogeneous among socio-economic groups.

Provision of alternative off-grid solar solution for non-electrified area in Ghana
Halaška, Vojtěch
This diploma thesis analyses issues related to current energy crisis and electrification process in Ghana, in connection with socio-economic impacts on society, and simultaneously presents opportunities of applying alternative off-grid solar technologies as potential solution. The main aim of the thesis is to develop comprehensive project targeted at solution for the lack of light and providing ability for charging small electronic devices, resulting to improving living conditions for inhabitants in non-electrified areas. Solution mentioned in the thesis, was developed on the basis of particular conditions considering the highest efficiency, reliability and simultaneously the lowest initial costs. Significant attention was paid to technological transfer challenge; ensuring long-term sustainability. Valuable information and experience were gained through experimental installation in the village of Akukusu, during Scholarly Internship in Ghana, leading to modification and further technology development. Particular examples of possible applications in cooperation with local subjects, which were achieved within semester study at the University of Ghana, are mentioned in closing part. These examples prove feasibility and simple modification for particular conditions. Subsequent possibilities of extension and further development are mentioned as well.
