Bachelor's thesis is dealing with electronic books and their market. Literary part of my work describes their history, formats, e book readers and project for their expansion. Practical part contains analysis of market of electronic books in the Czech Republic and in the world, issue of the illegal downloading and survey concentrated on demand. Based on information I recommended some steps for better sales of e-books.
Contemporary book market. Field Inquiry research among both booksellers and customers and its evaluation

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to present an overview of the Czech book market. At the same time there should be given the outcome of my own inquiries as compared with the currently available data. The thesis is based on the statistical data and information which were offered to the author by the representatives of the Czech book market. The introductory part which marks the year 1989 as the start of the contemporary book history is followed by the characteristics of the book market structure during the years 2001 - 2010. The impact of the decisive factors, in particular the V.A.T. increase, and the new modes of reading such as electronic books ,are analysed. The thesis was complemented by the face to face interviews with two contemporary Czech authors who at this occasion presented their opinions on the latest developments of the Czech book market.
A book as part of culture: The perception fo books by the generation Y and their representation in the media

The goal of this thesis is to clarify the status of books in the current Czech culture using scientific methods. Since there are many possible ways to achieve this widely defined goal, it was necessary to choose certain methods (and therefore an overall angle of the examination). Two specific methods were selected - a questionnaire for members of Generation Y and media analysis of culture sections of the Czech daily newspapers, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo during the months of June and December of 2017. Theoretical background, description of the methods and explanation of all the key terms are part of the theoretical section. The objective of the questionnaire is to map reading preferences and habits of young readers. The questions are focused on qualitative and also quantitative aspects of book reading. The overarching objective of the media analysis is to provide an accurate image the media paint about books. This will be achieved by thorough examination of all the articles that mention them. Just like with the questionnaire, qualitative and quantitative aspects will be tracked.
A book captured by networks: the electronic book as a new social phenomenon of a global network society

This work describes the electronic book as a medium of the information age which fully corresponds to the requirements of effective dissemination of information in a global network infosphere. The first part of the thesis deals with definitions of basic terms. The second part outlines the position of the electronic book in the context of conflict between two environments - print and digital. An electronic book is presented as a product of social and technological changes. The new media's attributes of an electronic book are described. Problems emerging from the different nature of print and digital environments are highlighted, covering selected points of view of copyright problems in a digital world. The third part explains the problems of libraries in the network environment. Libraries are described as institutions in the process of adapting to the new forms of services including the provision of electronic books. The new role of libraries in the network environment is clarified as well as the reactions of the professional library community to the new challenges for libraries.
"eBooks on Demand" Service in the Czech Republic

This Bachelor thesis introduces European cooperative project Elektronické knihy na objednávku - Evropská knihovní síť (eBooks on Demand - A European Library Network, EOD) and homonymous service which aims to digitize rare books on customer's demand. customer's demand. The first part of thesis describes the project in generally way regarding its history, describing goals, key activities, and technological workflow of EOD service. Furthermore the thesis focuses on describing current situation of EOD service in the Czech Republic. The last part presents the promotional tools of EOD service and their possible new opportunities.

E-book piracy on the internet

This bachelor thesis deals with problems of e-book piracy. It describes e-book development and tries to answer the question why e-books began to be favourite item to pirate. Then it deals with laws, with which government tries to stop piracy and with action of copyright owners, with which they tries to prevent and stop piracy.
The Book in the Electronic Age

Diploma thesis The Book in the Electronic Age deals with print and electronic book. Theory of convergence has been described at the first theoretical part. According to historical evidence, convergence supposed, media be not ejected each other, but their content has just to be changed. Another mentioned theory is remediation. It consists in way which new medium releases. New medium determines itself by borrowing characters of old medium and this content is being transform in terms what the new one needs. The chapter pointing on a strong tradition and an influence of book is concerned in letter print like power instrument. The next part describes print and electronic environment and also includes their differences not only from the perspective of user. History and princip of hypertext is outlined and there has been mentioned hypertext's potential in e-books as well. The newest way of reading electronic books are mentioned there. The theme of failure of e-book is also involved. The question about future of book appears in whole thesis.

Electronic books and their use in Czech higher education system

The goal of the thesis is to formulate suggestion to Czech universities regarding publication of textbooks and academic texts in electronic formats. The thesis also provides a general view of the Czech ebook market -- the history, formats and digital right management of ebooks are described. The process of ebook elaboration and reading devices with their pros and cons are also mentioned. The comparison of world and Czech ebook and etextbook market is emphasized and the availability of Czech etextbooks and academic text in Czech higher education institutions is mapped. The hypothesis that Czech students' demand for etextbooks is sufficient for profitable etextbook elaboration by Czech higher education institutions in the way that prevents from illegal sharing of content and violating of authorial laws is examined.
