Corruption and Economic Growth
Klepek, Cyril ; Běláčková, Vendula (advisor) ; Chalupníček, Pavel (referee)
The paper focuses on the issue of corruption and its affect on economic growth. In examining these effects, the study directs its attention at the European Union and is divided into two parts. In the empirical section, the results of a regressive analysis confirm the initial hypothesis of the negative effect of corruption on economic performance. The study then describes the effects of corruption on economic growth using direct and transmission mechanisms. The theoretical part of this study presents information on the problems of this phenomenon in terms of its identification and measurement. The study also considers the differing situations in European Union Member States and disproves the assumption that the EU is divided into the corrupt east and non-corrupt west. In view of the confirmation of the negative effect of corruption on GDP growth, the study presents possible solutions, which in particular call for the need for an effective and enforceable legal system.
Forecast of deflationary forces in economy and impact on asset values
Kaška, Jan ; Mařík, Miloš (advisor) ; Krabec, Tomáš (referee)
In current valuation and economics disciplines, it is a commonly held belief that financial crisis is over and a big threat to world economic system is inflation. While many assumptions of these claims are of certain significance indeed, this thesis proves a non-trivial chance of outright deflation. Author of this work also shows that attempts of governments and central banks aimed at avoiding deflationary scenarios ultimately cause slower growth and elevated variance in economic activity. Due to existence of such causality, a new variable "tau" entering into CAPM model's risk premium was developed as the original model had previously not captured for impacts of monetary and government policies. In order to quantify a probability and strength of deflationary forces in developed world, three distinct approaches were utilized -- quantitative assessment, historical comparisons, and a pure economic theory based reasoning. Value of variable tau was determined by regressing relationship between implied risk premium and changes in monetary policy while testing for different time lags. Results of the work point to a 10-20% chance of deflation in developed world. Extremely loose monetary policy worldwide than warrants augmenting additional 1-2% risk premium to current implied risk premium of US stock market. Although newly defined models would certainly need more work and refining, author believes that the augmented CAPM version does a good job capturing the "irrational exuberance" mentality attached to policies of major central banks around the world. The three year lead of model-based risk premium compared to the implied one is perceived as one more contribution to current valuation process and understanding of risk.
The Solow model and the empirics of economic growth
Macho, Ondřej ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Potužák, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this work is to accomplish an analysis of an economic growth of selected countries by using the Solow model. The main goal is to determine whether the current economic growth proceeds according to the Solow model and whether this model is a proper tool to analyze an economic growth. At first, theoretical assumptions and individual components of the model are described. The analysis itself is then achieved by sequential application of macroeconomics indicators of selected countries, which are divided into three groups according to its distinctive economical features, to three types of the Solow model (the basic Solow model, the human capital augmented Solow model, the human capital and technological know-how augmented Solow model). The application is implemented by the statistical-empirical software Gretl. At the end of the work, regarding mainly to results of the empirical testing, the augmented Solow model including the human capital and the technological know-how is established to be a proper tool to analyze an economics growth.
Europe 2020 Strategy in the Context of Modern Growth Theories
Katocsová, Veronika ; Abrhám, Josef (advisor) ; Bič, Josef (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with Europe 2020 strategy and its targets in the context of growth theories. The thesis aims at relating the measures suggested by the strategy to the implications of the growth theories. First, the targets are compared with the current situation in EU member states and problem areas of European competitiveness are identified. Growth models described in the first chapter yield some normative recommendations with respect to growth policies. Based on these conclusions, the thesis discusses the policies designed in the Europe 2020 strategy and their implications for economic growth in the EU.

Composition of Public Expenditure and Growth: Is there a Nexus?
Pejsarová, Iva ; Klosová, Anna (advisor)
This paper investigates the effects of the composition of public spending together with the impact of fiscal decentralization on growth for a set of four Central European countries over the period from 1995 to 2010. The main contribution to the current literature arises from the fact that for the first time, this paper examines a possible common trend of the variables which may lead to misleading results if left untreated. Indeed, most variables suffered from this problem. The interpretation of obtained results must therefore take this issue into account. We found that expenditure on education and defence seems to have positive and significant impact on economic growth. On the contrary, economic affairs consistently exhibit a negative and significant impact on the growth rate. In addition, fiscal decentralization seems to be beneficial for economic growth of the concerned countries. Furthermore, the implication of a strong negative impact of economic affairs is robust regarding different specifications, and especially with respect to the common trend issue.
Development of Structure of Vacancies in Relation to Economic Growth
TALÍŘOVÁ, Lucie
This thesis deals with development of structure of vacancies in relation to economic growth. Objective of the thesis was to assess the development of vacancies in terms of economic growth in the selected region. The thesis was divided into theoretical and practical part. Terms regarding the given issues were clarified in the theoretical part. This part also deals with offer, demand and balance on the labor market, unemployment, employment policy, economic growth ? it´s measurement and patterns. The region České Budějovice, which will be further discussed in the thesis, is characterized in the first chapter of the practical part. The thesis answers the question, what the unemployment rate, number of job applicants or number of vacancies in the region is. It also deals with the structure of vacancies according to education, profession or length of vacancy and on the other hand it deals with the structure of job applicants according to sex, age, profession or length of unemployment. The effect of economic growth on the structure of jobs is assessed in the next chapter. There´s a certain mismatch between the structure of vacancies and the structure of the unemployed. Main problems of this mismatch are defined in the final chapter of the practical part. There are an overall summary of the results and recommendations for the future in the conclusion of the thesis.

Investments in South Bohemia
SCHREIBEROVÁ, Veronika
The topic of my thesis is Investment activities in South Bohemia. The aim of my work was examining activities of investment in South Bohemia. In my work I wrote about the investments in general, investments in the Czech Republic and in the South Bohemia region. I gathered information from special literature, the internet, and I visited the institutions as regional authority of South Bohemia and corporate town of České Budějovice. In face of possibilities in investments of this region, the use of capacities is insufficient. In the region of South Bohemia we have many investments to transport infrastructure. If these investments are finished in the right time, in high-quality, it will increase investment to our region as for better transport connection. Supporting of investment and business is a very important thing. In our region there are institutions for supporting businessmen as a branch of CzechInvest in České Budějovice and the South Bohemia Economic Chambre, which provides advice to businessmen in the beginning of their business. The Regional authority of South Bohemia was established a new server about investment possibilities, but generally in our region there is a lack of information. The Regional Authority can give an attention of the server to the public. In my work I stated examples of future investments as the motorway D3, the railway Corridor R4 from Prague to České Budějovice to Austria and the airport in Planá near České Budějovice. Another investment is building a new town quarter in the area of Čtyři Dvory, the previous military area.
