Economic Aspects of Blood Donation
Hanus, Luboš ; Janotík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kukačka, Jiří (referee)
Sufficient blood supply is a continuous problem for health care systems around the world. The diversity of systems is also manifested as different methods of compensation and motivation of donors. During the last century the different types of compensation and motivation have brought about various high probabilities of transmission of infectious diseases. The goal of this thesis is to provide a sufficient description of donors' motivations in the Czech Republic and elsewhere. The first part aims to compare the risk of financially compensated blood donors and those who are not compensated. The second part gives a description of characteristics of the sample donors from the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Prague. A probit model is used to analyse the sensitivity of donors to two benefits provided by the state, these benefits are either a paid working day-off on the day of donation or the possibility of deduction of 2000 CZK from one's taxable income for each donation.
The issue of blood donation from the perspective of doctors and the general public
Cicák, Filip ; Kordulová, Pavla (advisor) ; Kulhavá, Miluše (referee)
Introduction: The properties of human blood are so specific that it has not yet been possible to replace human blood with any other fluid than obtaining it as a blood gift from donors. In recent years, there has not been a sufficient number of new blood donors in the Czech Republic to compensate for the decrease in the number of donors due to the increasing incidence of a number of civilization diseases and age (Czech Red Cross, 2020). Blood donation and the need for blood products are constantly increasing with the development of the methods of treatment and medicine as a science. Ensuring a sufficient number of blood donors and sufficient deposition of blood obtained from donors is a permanent task of healthcare (Society for Transfusion Medicine of the Czech Medical Association JEP, 2019). Aim of the work: The main goal of the research was to map the issue of blood donation, to identify the factors by which blood donors are motivated to donate. Furthermore, what can cause stagnation in the growth of blood donors and what means doctors motivate potential blood donors. Methodology: A qualitative research method was chosen for the research survey. Data collection took place in the form of semi-structured interviews and was completed by achieving theoretical data saturation. In order to preserve...
Nurses and donors view on the problematics of blood donation
FUNDOVÁ, Simona
The main aim of this thesis is to map the issue of blood donation from the perspective of nurses and donors. The theoretical part is focused on issues related to blood donation. The criteria which the donor must comply are described, as well as the benefits provided to blood donors, the types of donations and the complications of the donations. There is also a description of blood donation from the viewpoint of both donors and nurses. The research is focused on motivating and demotivating factors connected with blood donation, complications associated with blood collection and an overall view of the blood donation process by both donors and nurses. The empirical part of the thesis is elaborated by means of a qualitative research which is carried out by the technique of semi-structured interview. The interviews are conducted by blood donors and nurses working at the Blood Donor Station in one of the South Bohemian hospitals. The research achieved lots of results. According to the findings, the main motivation of the interviewed donors was a selfless help to another person. On the contrary, demotivating factors of the donators were lack of time and fear of potential complications. Another outcome of the research pointed to donor satisfaction with nursing care and the approach of nurses at the blood donor station in general. On the other hand, the perspective of the nurses was mapped too. The main finding from their point of view was the communication with donors which appeared as the most difficult action of the whole blood donation process. Following the results from nurses, the most frequent complication connected with blood donation are an overall nausea, collapse and haematoma. The work provides an overview of blood donation. The output is information material for potential blood donors.

Impact of financial incetives for blood donation
Platilová, Alena ; Špecián, Petr (advisor) ; Chytilová, Helena (referee)
The thesis deals with approaches of neoclassical and behavioral economics in the field of blood donation. The key question is whether financial incentives have a positive or negative impact. The main conclusions of world studies of behavioral economists concern the crowding out effect, the negative impact of financial incentives. Information on the blood donation system was provided by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic, which analyzes the system of blood donation in the Czech Republic. Further data was obtained from a questionnaire survey which tested the attitude of University students towards financial incentives for blood donation. Using a regression analysis, the cost of one blood sampling can be determined through explanatory variables, including the influence of the behavioral approach of the so-called framing effect. The most important determinants of the cost per blood collection are age, education, and attitude to rewarding donation.
