Using on-line Communication not Only in English Classes

This diploma thesis explores the possibilities of using international online communication in English lessons at the lower secondary level of elementary schools. In this case, information and communication technologies are intended to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and increase the intrinsic motivation to study the English language by providing an authentic space for communication with foreign pupils of similar age. Cross-curricular themes and interdisciplinary relationships with an emphasis on Geography play a significant role in such communication. The theoretical foundations of the international online communication are studied in the theoretical part of the thesis in order to enhance its potential in education. Key competencies, particularly digital and communicative skills, are discussed. Additionally, pedagogical and psychological aspects of the topic are explored. The practical part focuses on the specific implementation in practice, with the first objective being to prepare, test, and reflect on the activities. Controversial Issues as a Part of Education in Primary Schools

This diploma thesis focuses on dealing with controversial issues in primary schools. The main aim of this work is to find out why it is appropriate to integrate these issues into teaching, whether it is even possible for primary school pupils to deal with them and how these topics can be taught and integrated. The theoretical part begins by defining the term controversial issue, then it is devoted to developmental presupposition of primary school children for dealing with controversial issues, then how these issues relate to Citizenship and Global Education, and which methods can be used for dealing with controversial issues. Position of Global Education in Primary School

This diploma thesis focuses on Global Development Education (GDE) and its position in education at primary school. The main aims of this work are to find out why it is important to integrate global development issues in education, what are primary school kids preconditions for working with global issues and how can teachers integrate global issues to education. The theoretical part of the thesis begins with definition of GDE, then it is devoted its specifics in primary school education, its place in curricular documents and how it is integrated into education. In empiric part, GDE is investigated by questionnaire survey and interviews if the topics of GDE are incorporated into education, how often and what is the reason for this integration.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the importance of media education in general education and also to find out the way how pupils of the 2nd stage of elementary school and pupils of lower grade of multi-years grammar schools reflect the media education and at the same time to find out its benefit and usage in their real life. The theoretical part describes the basic knowledge that are connected with the theme of this work. The greatest emphasis is placed on the concept of media education in the Czech educational system. The practical part is focus on the results of the research which was made with the mentioned pupils. With the use of the interview with these pupils should be find out what is their opinion on the media education. Through their answers the author of this diploma thesis will try to outline if there is any difference in concept of media education between pupils of the elementary school and pupils of lower grade of multi-year grammar school. At the end of this work the author gives some suggestions for improvement and diversification of teaching media education that reacts on results found out in the research.

The meaning of Cross-curricular Themes in primary school education

My diploma thesis deals with Cross-curricular themes for teaching in primary school education and especially with the Cross-curricular theme Education to Thinking in European and Global Context. In the theoretical section I have explained the changes in the curriculum, the White paper and the Framework educational program and briefly I have characterized all Cross-curricular themes. Theoretically and within educational areas I have focused on the Cross-curricular theme Education to Thinking in European and Global Context. In the practical section I have done a survey of primary school teachers to examine attitudes to Cross-curricular themes and the integration of the Cross-curricular theme Education to Thinking in European and Global Context into lessons. I have compared relation to each Cross-curricular theme. I have also suggested an intensive instruction leading to the formation of attitudes and opinions by content of the Education to Thinking in European and Global Context.
Cross - curricular Themes at Middle School Level

Diploma thesis deals with cross-curricular themes at middle school level. In theoretical part the cross-curricular themes are described, as included in the general curriculum for basic education. Further attention is dedicated to {\clqq}Multicultural education``. Practical part includes the survey of teachers at elementary schools in reference to their work on the school curriculum for basic education and cross-curricular themes. Diploma thesis also includes suggestion of several lessons which can be used for multicultural education.
