Use of basal stimulation at anesthesiology department
MARKOVÁ, Alena
The theme ?The Use of Basal Stimulation at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department? was chosen in order to map out the use of this nursing method by the nurses and the staff who I cooperate with. The theoretical part deals with the environment at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department where the basal stimulation is used and also with special characteristics of the nursing care. Further, it deals with monitoring patients, causes of consciousness defects occurrence and kinds of methods of basal stimulation and their importance for patients. The basal stimulation is scientific, pedagogy and nursing concept supporting perception, communication and motor abilities of the human. The issue of basal stimulation at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department lies in skills and knowledge of the nurse and its timely application, which does not have to be used only on patients with the Apallic Syndrome. The basal stimulation can be applied in the nursing process also to patients with any degree of consciousness defection who are hospitalized at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department in order to reach patient´s orientation of better quality as he/she is waking up from the unconsciousness in the environment where he/she is located. This environment is often very stressful for the patient. The basal stimulation can be applied both to adults and children. These days the basal stimulation is predominantly used on patients with the Apallic Syndrome. The aim of this Bachelor Degree Work is to map out the use of the basal stimulation on patients suffering from the consciousness defect at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department form the nurse?s point of view. There were set three research questions for the practical part. Research question no. 1 ? How do nurses feel the use of the basal stimulation on patients suffering from the consciousness defect who are hospitalized at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department? Research question no. 2 ? How do nurses use the basal stimulation on patients suffering from the consciousness defect who are hospitalized at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department? Research question no. 3 ? What is the knowledge of nurses who work at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department on the basal stimulation? The set aim of the work was fulfilled, the questions were answered. In the research part of the work there was found out endeavour of nurses to apply the stimulation not only on patients suffering from the Apallic Syndrome but also on patients suffering from consciousness defects of different reasons. The work shows limitations in theoretical knowledge and consequently in practical skills of nurses in the sphere of basal stimulation application. The practical part facts will result in the nursing standard focused on providing the basal stimulation by nurses at the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department. This standard will be available to the ward sisters in Písek Hospital and Strakonice Hospital too. It can be a suitable help for nurses who care for seriously ill people and it can contribute to better quality of the nursing care which they provide.
Freedom of will and access to informations about one's own intentions
Havlíček, Ondřej ; Hvorecký, Juraj (advisor) ; Horáček, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the problem of free will and the reliability of an introspective access to action intentions. The traditional questions of free will, responsibility and determinism are currently receiving a lot of attention due to the advances in cognitive sciences. Because of various scientific findings, many authors claim that free will is just an illusion. The purpose of this study is to discuss traditional conceptualization of this topic and point out its problems. As an alternative, I am trying to suggest a compatibilistic theory of freedom and responsibility, which is internally coherent and compatible with scientific evidence. The core of my thesis is a replication and modification of a recent experimental study, investigating voluntary decision-making and an introspective access to one's own intentions. The participants of the experiment performed reflexive actions which they misjudged as intentional. The goal of the theoretical part of my thesis has been accomplished on the basis of examining a voluminous foreign literature. The method involves a philosophical analysis of concepts with an emphasis on contemporary scientific findings. In the empirical part of my work, results were obtained in a cognitive-psychological experiment involving reaction time and evoked potential data acquisition and their analysis. First, a discussion of concepts relevant to the problem of free will is undertaken. An explication of the most significant experiments that question traditional intuitions about the human mind and free will is then given. A detailed description of my experiment follows, including its results and implications. Finally, conclusions about the nature of free will and responsibility are made together with certain suggestions for both the criminal justice system and everyday situations. Although I base the theoretical part of my thesis on the results of many authors, I contribute to it to a substantial degree with my own opinions and arguments. The empirical study is the most significant contribution of mine as its realization demanded i.a. a development of a stimulus presentation software, execution of the experimental tasks with a relatively large number of subjects and a mathematical and statistical evaluation of the acquired data.
The Other Between Phenomenon and Dialogue
ALBRECHT, David
The thesis is concerned with the matter of intersubjectivity, traditionally called as ?a question of the other minds?. The new approach in this area was brought mainly by two philosophical movements: by phenomenology and by dialogical personalism. They both reacted to each other in this point, and their reflexions upon this matter resulted in very outstanding discoveries, with influence untill nowadays. Thesis introduces the concept of the Other in each of both mentioned traditions, simultaneously tries to grasp surprisingly similar result of philosofical analysis in different traditions, and also tries to stress the primacy of ethics in historical development of both traditions as a place of meeting of (the other) minds.
Nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma
PILNÁČKOVÁ, Jitka
The topic of this thesis is ?Nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma?. Three goals were set. We tried to find what the specifics of nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma are. We also examined whether nurses were aware of the specifics of nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma. The last goal was to find out whether nurses used basal stimulation in these patients. The research was based on a non-standardized interview. The interviews were performed with twelve nurses caring about these patients in the České Budějovice Hospital and the Faculty Hospital Královské Vinohrady. Three research questions were set. 1: What are the specifics of nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma? The research has shown that elevated head position, monitoring of GCS, pupil state and response, administering of bolus analgosedation doses in some nursing activities, ensuring detention administration and list of valuables are the specifics. We have also included CT examination, pre-operation preparation, care of invasive inputs, drains, operation wounds, careful handling with patients, constipation problems, care of a disturbed or aggressive patient and special approach to communication with these patients. 2: Are nurses aware of the specifics of nursing care for patients with craniocerebral trauma? We found that respondents knew the above mentioned specifics. However we found two drawbacks. The first one was in the unawareness of the possibility to increase ICP during defecation among the respondents, the other one was in communication with disturbed or aggressive patients. 3: Do nurses use basal stimulation in patients with craniocerebral trauma? The research has shown that the respondents do apply the concept of basal stimulation, but they only use some of the stimulation elements. This thesis may serve as study material for new nurses starting at the department, where they will care about these patients. The research results and the Standard nursing procedure of Basal stimulation elaborated by us will be offered to managers of both the hospitals where the interviews with nurses were performed.
Three mystical Writings of the Middle Ages from the Point of View of C. G. Jung's Concepts
JEŘÁBEK, Jan
The thesis presents three mystical writings of the Middle Ages, whose common least denominator is experience of inner mystical union accompanied by a religious experience and the experience of spiritual purgation. The thesis attempts to adopt a holistic approach,it presents relevant views of C.G.Jung s concepts of archetypes and relationships between consciousness and unconsciousness, views of other authors, quotes some documents of magisterial role of the church,it takes into account a long-term empiric observations, and presents one case study. In the conclusion some approaches towards handling so called psychospiritual crisis are suggested.
The Specifics of Nursing Care in Patients with Organic Psychosyndrome due to Craniocelebral Injury, Disorder.
GONDÁŠOVÁ, Jitka
Formerly used as a separate term, organic psychosyndrome has been currently included, according to the International Classification of Diseases, in the group of mental disorders arranged on the basis of the conclusive aetiology in the events of brain injuries, brain diseases and other brain damage leading to brain dysfunction. Organic psychosyndrome is a state of changed brain functioning resulting from an injury, cerebral apoplexy or brain tumour or from other causes. At that time the brain activity is changed, the cognitive functions are reduced, and the manner of experiencing along with the personality manifestations is changed with various intensities. Patients show overall restlessness and sometimes perception disorders. Organic psychosyndrome has a varied course and abates at various speeds. It never means a definite change of brain functioning. After the organic psychosyndrome abates, a cognitive deficit or a personality change caused by the brain injury may continue. Nursing care is very demanding for nurses both in physical and mental terms. The purpose of the quantitative research is to ascertain preparedness of nurses to communicate with patients with the organic psychosyndrome and to find out whether higher education influences provision of nursing care, whether nurses cooperate with the patients{\crq} families, and how nurses educate the families. The quantitative research was conducted in the form of questionnaires in selected wards of Nemocnice České Budějovice a.s. Pursued in March 2010, the research was aimed at respondents from the wards of traumatology, neurosurgery, neurology and psychiatry. 82 questionnaires were processed. Hypothesis 1 {--} Nurses do not have information concerning the specific communication with patients with organic psychosyndrome {--} has been disproved. The other hypotheses have been confirmed. A nurse with a higher education has more information about the form of nursing care of a patient with the psychosyndrome, educates the patient{\crq}s family continuously in the course of his/her hospitalization, involves the family members in the patient{\crq}s self-sufficiency training, educates the family mostly in the form of a dialog and has no printed education material at her disposal.
Semantic map of the concept "consciousness": Associations and categories
Špok, Dalibor
In the times of unprecedented interest in scientific research on consciousness, we should advance from ad hoc definitions towards thorough analysis of the meaning of this broad and ambiguous term. This analysis should be done not only in terms of philosophy of mind and various philosophical and psychological traditions, but also by examining the semantic position of this term in language and everyday use. This study tries to delimit basic "semantic map" of the term consciousness, basic realms and categories of everyday thinking about consciousness. If we want to research consciousness scientifically, we cannot omit any of these categories or we have to be aware of this limitation and narrow our scientific definition of the term.
