The importance of community in community gardens

The diploma thesis deals with the concept of community gardens, where the common activity of people, mutual help and pursuit of a common goal creates a certain community model. In this thesis we want to clarify the functioning of the relationships on which the community is based, how members perceive it and describe its character. The aim is to show how civil society organizations that set up community gardens can create an environment for meeting and associating people in communities and enabling them to meet the needs they lack in their location. Community gardening as a way of using public space in the cities

This bacherol thesis deals with the community gardens in the city and their benefits for the individuals, community and locality in which is the garden located. The aim of this thesis is to identify the number and location of community gardens in Prague and to determine their contribution to the locality. Next target is to answer the question if the community gardens are seen by its founders as a form of public space. Thesis is composed of two main parts, the theoretical part, which summarizes the substantial information about public space and another options of cultivation in the city with a focus on community gardens and community gardening.. The second practical part was wrote up on the basis of interviews with the founders of each community garden and presents the answers to the set questions.
