Russia-Belarus Unification. Chosen Problems and perspectives of Union State (1999-2008)
Osipova, Kristina ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
Russo-Belarus Unification. Chosen Problems and perspectives of Union State (1999-2008). The main subject of the diploma thesis is cooperation between Russia and Belarus within the Union State of Russia and Belarus, which was established in 1999. After the break up of the USSR, cooperation between the newly independent states was largely defined by their membership in CIS. However, during the first five years an integration core emerged, consisting of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. These states were mainly cooperating in economic sphere, which finally emerged into international organization (Eurasian Economic Community). Belarus is one of the former Soviet republics, which kept and is still keeping very close relations with Russian Federation. Their bilateral integration begins after the breakup of USSR and culminates in 1999, when treaty of establishing Union State of Russia and Belarus is signed. During the almost 10 year period between 1999 and 2008, however, the cooperation did not move forward as was originally planned. In my opinion, the main topics which delay effective Russo-Belarus integration are as follows: prices for energetic commodities (oil and gas) for Belarus; implementation of common currency - Russian ruble; and ratification of Constitutional Act of Union State....
What is the appropriate Monetary Policy regime for The Gambia?
Komma, Musukuta ; Holub, Tomáš (advisor) ; Turnovec, František (referee)
The Gambia, a small open economy, implements a managed floating exchange rate regime. The central bank (CBG) has the mandate to design and implement monetary policy with the primary aim of achieving price and exchange stability in the economy. In spite of interventions by the CBG, the country continues to experience fluctuations in its exchange rate with several instances of major spikes in recent years. This thesis proposes a solution, through a change of policy regime, to control the long time and disturbing depreciation of the domestic currency. In a vector auto regressive framework, the study investigates sources of the exchange rate variability using quarterly data from 1998:Q1 to 2012:Q4. Furthermore, the OCA theory and the pre- conditions of inflation targeting are used to make a choice between a common currency and inflation targeting for the Gambia. The findings from the Johansen test of cointegration suggest that the selected key macroeconomic variables are cointegrated, meaning, they have long run equilibrium. The results of the VECM reveal that error correction mechanism can be achieved in some of the variables. This indicates that there exists the convergence process. In addition, the results from the impulse response analysis put forward that the macroeconomic variables have effect on...

Benefits and risks arising from the adoption of the euro in the Czech Republic
Votavová, Michaela ; Kolman, Ondřej (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to assess the benefits and risks arising from the adoption of the euro in the Czech Republic. Many studies on this topic that have arisen a few years ago concludes positive impacts in connection with the adoption of the euro. The thesis provides a current analysis of the consequences from membership in the euro area. The current debt crisis revealed structural problems in the euro area. At the same time the current institutional and structural changes bring additional costs of a common currency. For the Czech Republic is far better not to join the common monetary union.

Hlavová, Kristýna ; Dočkal, Dalibor (advisor) ; Urban, Luděk (referee)
This study divides the eurozone countries into two groups, the first group is "North states" and the second "South states". These two parts are mutually compared and evaluated in terms of the optimum currency area (OCA) theory. The beginning of this work introduces the basic concepts and the history of the OCA theory and the euro area. The theoretical part focuses on the definition and explanation the OCA criteria. The eurozone will be evaluated in terms of fulfillment or non-fulfillment of these criteria. The main aim of this work will be to decide which of these two parts of the euro area to a greater extent fulfills OCA criteria and which of them has a greater potential to become an optimum currency area in the future. The analysis will be based on the available statistical data.

Vondruška, Tomáš ; Dlouhý, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kadeřábková, Klára (referee)
The topic of my bachelor's work is the benefits and the costs of the common European currency and the following analysis of the current situation of the European Monetary Union. The first part deals with possible benefits and costs which are brought about by introduction of the common currency. In the second part I am trying to analyze whether the European Union meets expectations for optimum currency areas and whether the benefits from introduction of the common currency exceed its costs. At the end of this part I evaluate current economic development of Eurozone and several West-European countries which have not accepted the euro. I apply two basic economic aggregates inflation and GDP. The aim of this work is to point out possible benefits but also costs as a result of forming a monetary union. I would like also to outline whether the European Monetary Union has optimum currency area characteristics.
