Carlo Goldoni and Carlo Gozzi: Controversy about Theater

The subject of this thesis is the controversy about theatre between Carlo Goldoni and Carlo Gozzi. The introductory part is directed at their biography with an emphasis on the key moments of their life. The following part closely analyses their controversy with reference to their opinions which they wrote about in their polemic works. Molière in modern Czech theatre

anglicky: Title of the thesis: Molière in modern Czech theatre Keywords: Molière, preciousness, classicism, baroque, comedy, commedia dell'arte, comedy-ballet. Abstract: The thesis treats the works of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin also known as Molière and their legacy in modern Czech theatre. It characterizes French society of the seventeenth century and the main features of contemporary philosophical and artistic styles, focusing on the dramatic creation of classicism. It also summarizes the life of Molière and his work, subdividing it according to generic, formal and thematic criteria. Within this frame, it gives a detailed analysis of the most important plays, representing the individual categories. It also studies the modern Czech theatrical stage. Focusing on the historical context, it explores the development of the stage from the end of the Second World War until nowadays. It gives a complex outline of Molière's plays presented during the different periods, evaluating the influence of cultural and historical context on the particular interpretation. This evaluation is based on the information presented in contemporary press and promotional materials of the given theatres and thus examines Molière's plays performed on Czech theatre stages in the present. Carlo Gozzi's "fiabe teatrali"

The abstract and key words The aim of the thesis Carlo Gozzi's "fiabe teatrali" is to outline theatre polemic of autor and analysis of four dramatic tales. In the introduction part will be briefly described cultural- historic context of Venice in 18th century and the biography of drammatic with an overwiev of his most popular works. In the next part of thesis are charcterized theater pieces of Carlo Gozzi and than description of his participation in theatre polemics, pursuant on the most important texts in chronological order. The fourth chapter is focused on characteristic of Fiabe and analysis of plays: L'amore delle tre melarance (The love for three oranges), Il re cervo (The king stag), Turandot (Turandot, princess of China), L'augellino belvedere (The green bird). In the closing chapter is summarized theater poetic of Carlo Gozzi. The subject of this degree paper is the comedies of Angelo Beolco. The introductory part is focused mainly at the life and work of Angelo Beolco. Following this there is an introduction to the comedy genre in 16th century in Italy and the characteristics of erudite comedy, its authors and the change from the erudite comedy to the comedy dell'arte. A further part is given over to an analysis of his comedies La Pastoral (Pastoral), Il Reduce (Returnee) - Primo dialogo: Parlamento de Ruzante che iera vegnú de campo (First dialogue: What said Ruzante when he came back from the battlefield) and Secondo dialogo: Bilora (Second dialogue: Bilora).
Masquerade balls and masks in early modern culture

The bachelor's thesis is divided into two parts. The first deals with the phenomenon of the masquerade ball as a popular court festivity of the Baroque period. The second focuses on masquerade masks and masquerade costumes based on examples of selected Baroque paintings and portraits from the European region. The first part begins with tracking of the origins of the masquerade ball in the folk carnivals, studies their common starting points but considers their different goals. Then, there are defined three main sources of the inspiration for the masquerade. At this part are presented some particularly important masquerade festivities. The second part is focused on a study of masks, their iconography and meanings. The innovation of this work lies in the theme itself; which at least, from the art-historian position, has not yet been devoted a separate systematic study. The aim of this thesis is to summarize already existing pieces of knowledge on the given topic based on specialized Czech and foreign literature studies, and then through the analyses of individual cultural-historical facts to present an image of masquerade festivity from the point of view of the main inspiration sources, which led to its establishment. Motives of the commedia dell'arte in the art

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate certain artistic pieces with motives of Italian Theatre of Renaissance. Further, this work discusses the literature dedicated to this topic in the framework of Czech and foreign history of art and theatre. In this regard, attention is drawn to analysis and the interpretation of particular pieces of an art from the formal and iconographic perspectives. The introduction is concerned with the key historical aspects and personalities of the Commedia dell'arte in connection with chosen pieces of art. Based on provided facts, this thesis comes to an acquired evaluation and comparisons of motives with the character of theatre performance.
