Changes in the knightly clientele of the counts of Slavata in the first half of the 17th century
BABKA, Daniel
The master's thesis is focused on the change of the knightly clientele in the middle of 17th century. The main example is based on knights in the area of Jindřichův Hradec, which was situated in the south-east of the Kingdom of Bohemia and in the south-west of the Moravian Margraviate. The first chapters deal with the change of client relations and their everyday lifestyle. It discusses the personality of the patrons and the change of the dominion of Jindřichův Hradec. Until 1604, the patrons were lords of Hradec and then the Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk. The main part of the thesis, based on scientific literature, published and unpublished sources tries to imitate the lives and property conditions of the knightly clients, namely, Babkové of Meziříčko, Čabeličtí of Soutice, Hodějovští of Hodějov, Lipovští of Lipovice, Malovcové of Malovic, Růtové of Dírná, Vencelíkové of Vrchoviště, Vratislavové of Mitrovice, Zahrádečtí of Zahrádky. The work also attempts to capture the Slavatov clientele as a structure that changed under the influence of the events of the Thirty Years' War, post-White-Mountain confiscations and the Counter-Reformation.
The Developments of the Rentier State Model in Saudi Arabia
Tomaštík, Karel ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
Saudi Arabia, along with other Gulf oil monarchies, represents an original politico- economic system. Huge revenues in the form of oil rent, flowing to the Treasury since the oil boom in the early 70's, have fundamentally changed the socio-economic structure, which was in literature termed the rentier state. The origin, development and description of typical characteristics of rentier state are the main topic of this thesis. The first section discusses the theoretical foundations and approaches to the issue. The second chapter provides a historical background in order to position the study in the context of previous political, economic and ideological development. In an analysis of the formation of state structures, the work deals with the relationships between members of the ruling house of Saud, between the government and social elites, with functioning of clientelist structures and interactions within the bureaucratic apparatus. Based on the study of these relationships the thesis marks out particularities of the Saudi politico-economic system that distinguish it from the classical concept of rentier state model. The main distinctive feature is the diminished autonomous ability of state to regulate the functioning of state institutions and to encourage individual agencies to cooperate actively...

Langr, Ivan ; Frič, Pavol (advisor) ; Cejp, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis "Systemic corruption in Liberec" focuses on the problematics of systematic corruption and clientelism in post-communist society. It is launched as a case study (Yin 1994, 2003, Flyfbjerg 2006, 2001) whose frame remarkably exceeds ordinary corruption models (public office, market centered theory, public interest) and is based on systematic corruption model theories (Caiden, and Caiden 1977, Caiden 2003, Johnston 1998, Wallis 2006, Stefes 2004, 2007, Jowitt 1992 etc.), and eventually their effect emerged in the areas of the government system, civil freedom, social cohesion and public economy. Empiric part consequently covers both phenomena showing the case of the Liberec city hall, the research itself is bounded by the years 1998-2010, when the connection between the city government and construction lobby reveals in an intense political and medial point of view. The research is made to identify and prove the figures of systematic corruption and clientelism based on the individual affairs of political representatives, office workers and various economic entities. Metodically the diploma thesis is built up on elaborate interviews (politicians, officers, prosecuting authorities etc.), document analysis (reports and materials of the city council and municipal government, contracts,...

Běhal, Filip ; Buben, Radek (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
(in English): The diploma thesis compares (mal)functioning of the state during contemporary political development in Czech Republic and Greece. Firstly it explaines the theoretical understanding of the notion of state and varieties of its mulfunctioning such as clientelism, patronage and exploitation. Secondly it analyzes path-dependent historical changes of state and its mulfunctioning, since Ottoman supremacy in case of Greece and since democratic Czechoslovakia in case of Czech Republic. Subsequently the thesis deals with the impact that the economic crisis of 2008 had on political development and quality of democracy in these countries in the context of their mulfunctioning states.

Globalization and Health - access to health care for children of foreigners in the Czech Republic
Davidová, Olga ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Mašková, Pavla (referee)
Olga Davidová - Abstrakt DP - AJ Abstract Diploma thesis "Globalization and Health - access to health care for children of foreigners in the Czech Republic" addresses the issue of availability of health care for children of foreigners in the Czech Republic as development of legal framework in the Czech Republic and human rights issues. The main objective of this work is a critical reflection on the cause of discrimination against children of foreigners from third world countries (non-EU countries) in their access to health care. This is a retrospective case study which is selected by the institutional analysis of the key events of public policy focusing on the development of health insurance legislation. There are different mechanisms of protection of human rights at local, national, and international level in the availability of health care for children of foreign nationals from third world countries; unfortunately national legislation is not fully in line with international requirements in the area of health law. Although international documents are binding for the Czech Republic, they are not sufficiently applied in the Czech constitutional right to prevent violations of human rights.
