Affecting parameters of respiratory gas exchange by use of incentive spirometers
Senohrábková, Eva ; Matouš, Miloš (advisor) ; Smolíková, Libuše (referee)
introduction: The theoretical part of the thesis briefly analyzes the anatomical, kinesiological and physiological aspects of breathing, pursues the issue of examinations of lung functions and also includes a chapter which applies to incentive spirometers. The experimental part of the work examines the impact of three-week training with trainer Coach2 on parameters of respiratory gas exchange at rest and during the exercise in healthy subjects. methods: Both output and control tests included spirometry and spiroergometry examination. The experimental group consisted of 10 subjects, control group consisted of 9 subjects. results: Our results show a significant influence especially on an increase in FVC, decreased respiratory rate at submaximal intensities of exercise and increased breathing rate at maximum load and also an increase in tidal volume at all load levels. Minute ventilation at maximum load increased by an average of 15.17 liters. The control group did not show any improvement. conclusion: It appears that training with trainer Coach2 might be effective in influencing certain ventilatory parameters at rest as well as during the exercise.

Biomechanical chracteristics of nonstationary respiration as possible identificator of tiredeness under hypokinetic loading
Lopotová, Martina ; Šorfová, Monika (advisor) ; Eck, Vladimír (referee) ; Smrčka, Pavel (referee)
The general topic of this work is to reveal the potential relationship between tiredness cause by hypokinetic monotonous loading and breathing. The aim was to determine if there are suitable respiratory parameters that would indicate this tirednes and, if so, then verify their validity for predicting the tiredness phenomena accompanying huge range of everyday human activities. The performed experiment was attended by five volunteers who absolved measurements of electrical activity of brain, of breathing and of chest volume changes. The course of the experiment and the behaviour of probands were recorded by a camera. In the first part of each maesuremnt, a specified monotonous task (Task Tracking) was performed. The probands have had to follow the target moving with pseudocasual direction and speed by the cursor on the monitor. This task currently reflected the level of reliability and quality of the performed aktivity. In the second part of measurement, the probands had just to relax and watch a movie. Both parts were measured in two conditions - alert and tired (after 24 hours of sleep deprivation) proband. The data were compared with each other and evaluated. The measurements and the results showed that the rate of the tiredness can be fairly reliably assessed by monitoring of the volume...
The vital capacity of lungs in novice figure skaters
Hrdličková, Kristýna ; Sedláčková, Marie (advisor) ; Šťastný, Petr (referee)
Title: The vital capacity of lungs in novice figure skaters Aims: The main aims of this study were 1. to compare the forced vital capacity (FVC) at rest between young female figure skaters and girls of the same age; 2. to find how the free skate influences respiratory functions in young female figure skaters. Method: A personal spirometer was used to test the 20 young female figure skaters aged 11-14 years in this empirical research. Data from a festival of sport for kids "Sporťáček" were used to compare FVC among young female figure skaters and athletes from several other sports. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistic methods. Results: Compared to athletes from other sports, FVC of young female figure skaters was significantly lower, the same result was also found after conversion on FVC index (FVC/BMI). The level of selected respiratory measures did not differ significantly immediately after free skate nor a minute after the performance. However, there was an increasing trend found immediately after free skate compared to the level at rest. Conclusions: Specific training loads in the figure skating may negatively influence FVC. FVC as well as some other respiratory measures may slightly increase immediately after performance. Key words: figure skating, spirometry, breathing, older...
Playing the recorder at elementary schools to prevent breathing defects
Kolandová, Eva ; Hurníková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kmentová, Milena (referee)
This thesis focuses on recorder playing as prevention of respiratory diseases and its significant impact on proper diaphragmatic breathing. The main goal is to monitor the effect of the active exercise on child players' health and analyzing the aspects of the recorder playing. The theoretical part describes the recorder's history and evolution as well as its therapeutic use, wind instrument in relation to musicotherapy and well-established breathing methods. This work also presents suitable literature related to the recorder, significant personalities connected with the recorder playing and healthy breathing methods propagators. The practical part introduces the implementation of pedagogical research that specializes in observation of skills and abilities of preschool and middle school kids improved by the recorder playing. It also shows the results of an experiment that monitored the effect of breathing exercises on breathing parameters progress within an authentic environment of elementary school music lessons.
The influence of synchronized swimming on respiratory functions
Vlasáková, Marie ; Čechovská, Irena (advisor) ; Peslová, Eva (referee)
Title: The influence of synchronized swimming on respiratory functions Objectives: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to demonstrate the effect of synchronized swimming on respiration functions. Specifically, verify and document the values of selected dynamic breathing parameters of the research female participants, depending on their age and length of specialized training. Methods: Data were analyzed through basic statistical operations and specific calculations for lung volumes. Results: Partial confirmation of the truthfulness of both hypothesis put forward for the pusposes of this thesis. Hypothesis No. 1 was confirmed for forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), Tiffeneau-Pinelli index (FEV1/VC ratio) and forced vital capacity (FVC). Hypothesis No. 2 was confirmed for forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC). Keywords: Synchronized swimming respiratory functions, breathing, spirometrie

Tha main difference after completing preoperative rehabilitation was found in maximal inspiratory muscles strength, which increased of 17,71 cmH2O.
Possibilities of respiratory therapy in children with spinal muscular atrophy
BRŮŽKOVÁ, Romana
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare, progressive, genetically conditioned disease that causes muscle wasting. Depending on its type, the disease can begin to appear at an early age. As the disease progresses, muscles of the whole body begin to weaken, causing the affected person to be bound to a wheelchair, forced to use various compensation tools and is dependent on the help of others. Very common complications of this disease are e.g. scoliosis, swelling of the limbs, contractures, and respiratory problems, to which need to be responded as soon as possible, as it is very serious complication and respiratory insufficiency in advanced stages may lead to death of the affected person. It is neccessary to strengthen breathing muscles, maintain lung volume by training and keep the airways clear and clean. The main goal of this thesis was to formulate the possibilites of respiratory therapy in children with the spinal muscular atrophy and to apply selected techniques of respiratory therapy and selected aiding tools along with the evalution of the effect. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the disease, its symptoms, diagnosis, and options of treatment such as pharmacotherapy, gene therapy, medical rehabilitation and respiratory therapy, which is crucial in children with spinal muscular atrophy. The practical part is based on qualitative research, where casuistries of three children with spinal muscular atrophy are processed. The research includes kinesiological analysis, muscular test, measurement of the chest circumference and spirometric examination. Based on this examination, a therapy plan was established. Lung function in all probands at the end of the therapy was approximately the same as at its beginning, which can be considered a positive effect of selected techniques due to the fact that SMA is a progressive disease.
Yoga and its possibilities in physiotherapy, its impact on the length of the spine
VÁVROVÁ, Eliška
The bachelor thesis deals with the importance of yoga, its possibilities in physiotherapy and its influence to a spine. Nowadays, yoga is a very popular activity that influence physical and psychological condition of people. In some case, it can help remove the pain. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the first one, the anatomy of the spine and the chest is described as well as their particular articulation, muscles and functions. Then, one chapter is focused only on breathing followed by longer chapter describing yoga, its importance, history, and types and explaining main keywords: ásana (position) and pránájáma (breathing exercise). This chapter contains two smaller chapters about the influence of yoga to a spine and its benefits in physiotherapy. The method of qualitative research was used in the practical part. Three women practicing the exercises were part of the research. It lasted two months. At first of all, they needed to have a medical examination and then the principle of activities was explained to them. The women were regularly checked on week basis during the research to make the therapy more efficient. After two months, the medical examinations were made again and the results were achieved. According to the results of three women, yoga has a positive impact on the psychological behavior. The important indicator of success was the improvement of spine´s flexibility thanks to practicing yoga. Also, the perception of breathing was very convenient therapy for wrong stereotypes of breathing, but to make the exercise efficient it needs to be made regularly and correctly. The bachelor thesis could be used as an educational material for physiotherapist and for general public or for a larger knowledge transfer.
