Hercules theme in the decoration of Prague baroque palaces

The bachelor thesis is devoted to the Herculean iconography of wall paintings in Prague aristocratic Boroque palaces. The introductory chapters describe the myth of Hercules in literary sources and its reflection in Czech and European art. The next part of the thesis is devoted to the description and analysis of wall and ceiling paintings, sculptural works, and stucco decorations with Herculean themes in selected palaces in Prague. The focus of the study will be an iconographic and iconological analysis of the decoration. At the same time, an attempt will be made to analyse the relationship between this iconography and the functional division of the residences.

Key figure is study of production of Czech painter Karel Škréta. The integral part is teoretical and technological process of prominent preservers. The technological process of Škréta's production, which is the part of practical part, is based on their cognition.

The diploma thesis deals with lives and masterpieces of the most important baroque artists and architectures. There are also descriptions of their works. The practical part of the thesis deals with the Kuks' area, the hospitál and spa, its historical, artistic and practical value. Lives of patients and nurses are also mentioned as well as the present-day situation of the Kuks' area and nearby Christian crib. There is a reference to F. A. Špork. He was an important man of that time who supported artists and gave an order for the project of Kuks' area.
