Denmark between NATO and the EU: Changes in Danish Atlanticism
Zahrádková, Martina ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the change in Denmark's approach towards the EU and NATO in the context of its security and defence policy since the end of the Cold War. Denmark was one of the founding members of NATO in 1949. Despite not being a neutral state, Denmark chose to opt out from the Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU following a failed referendum in 1992, in which the Danish citizens rejected the Maastricht Treaty. Denmark then pursued a closer relationship with the U.S. and supported the American out- of-area operations within NATO, which were often considered controversial among the other European members. This approach positioned Denmark as an Atlanticist and cautious EU member that stood against further integration. Nevertheless, in 2022, Denmark decided to abolish the defence opt-out and participate in the CSDP. This thesis follows Denmark's security and defence strategy since the end of the Cold War. This thesis uses Role Theory as a theoretical framework to examine external and internal factors that led to the decision to abolish the opt-out. It also analyses whether Denmark changed its role in the EU and NATO over the monitored time frame and what the extent of this change was.
Geopolitical affiliation of Russia in contemporary Russian discourse
Kalinová, Olga ; Voráček, Emil (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The question of Russia's geopolitical affiliation has been a cause of centuries long debate, whether Russia belongs to Europe or to Asia. From the geographical point of view, Russia is predominantly situated in Asia. From cultural and civilisational points of view, Russian people tend to lean towards Europe, even though they capture elements of both civilizations. By examination of the most prominent Russian schools of thought, mainly of geopolitical nature (Slavophilism, Westernism, Atlantisms, Eurasianism, etc.) the work seeks to systemize the answers to this question. At the same time, it seeks to determine through analysis of the contemporary Russian foreign policy, which of these ideological leanings plays a dominant role in foreign policy discourse in Russia since 2000. Thanks to identification of this priority direction and by determining the primary orientation of Russian foreign policy in a particular region, the aim of this work is finally to answer the following question: What is Russia: Europe, Asia, or a separate continent of Eurasia?

The transatlantic partnership is comprehended as a relation between two or more countries, eventually integration groupings, on the both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. For purposes of this thesis is my point of view on the mutual relations limited only to the European Union and the United States of America. First chapter is oriented on resources of mutual relations. It's aim is to define area, in which is bilateral trade made, on agreements and contracts, which make mutual co-operation possible and easier and on historical relations, which set mutual co-operation character and dynamics, which we can see in these days. Dimension of the mutual relations is the second chapter, which is all in the analytical sense and which tries to show structure and dynamics of the bilateral trade exchange in trade in goods and services. Third chapter is maybe most important of this thesis, which tries to find pros and cons of the enlarging of mutual co-operation. Furthermore it tries to show if it's possible to realize an ambitious plan of building a free trade area between both partners.
