Big Social Data and the Study of Celebrity Fandom
Sedláček, Jakub ; Numerato, Dino (advisor) ; Špaček, Ondřej (referee) ; Mikuláš, Peter (referee)
This thesis provides a novel view of celebrity fandom through the lens of big social data, while at the same time exploring the opportunities and challenges of using digital traces from social media for sociological research. The first chapter provides a sociological framing of celebrity, a short, joint history of celebrity and the media, and a discussion of the revolutionary role that social media and its platforms played in celebrity culture. Finally, it attempts to bridge theories related to celebrity's role in society with research on "lifestyle politics", "polarization", "taste cultures" and "lifestyle enclaves". The second chapter serves as an introduction into big social data and digital trace data. First as a socio-technological phenomenon, then as a research tool. It covers its historical and current availability and discusses its epistemological and practical opportunities, limits and dangers. Finally, it introduces Facebook pagelikes as a valuable source of information on lifestyle politics. Chapter three is an exploration of Facebook digital traces of 90k celebrity followers. It asks whether celebrity preferences are related to differences in various aspects of life, including politics, leisure or cultural consumption. Methodologically, it covers combining data from APIs with web scraping and...
Trk1 Potassium Importers - key transport systems for yeast cell fitness and stress tolerance
Masaryk, Jakub ; Sychrová, Hana (advisor) ; Heidingsfeld, Olga (referee) ; Malínský, Jan (referee)
One of the key prerequisites for yeast cell growth is the uptake of essential compounds, such as potassium. Potassium is a vital monovalent cation and its sufficient intracellular concentration is crucial for various processes, for instance: regulation of membrane potential and cell turgor, enzymatic activity, and protein synthesis. A sufficient internal concentration of potassium is also one of the pivotal signals for cell division. However, as also excess of potassium might lead to unfavourable physiological consequences in yeast, such as deacidification of vacuoles and depolarization of plasma membrane, it is imperative for the yeast cells that the whole process of potassium acquisition is a tightly regulated affair, in order to maintain proper potassium homeostasis. In yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, uniporter Trk1 is considered a key player in potassium uptake. The presented thesis aimed to provide novel knowledge regarding Trk1, more specifically to study its ability to modify its capacity for potassium uptake, putative regulation by phosphorylation, and involvement in the survival of glucose-induced cell death (GICD). Additionally, potassium-uptake systems in selected non-conventional species were characterized as well. The most distinctive feature of Trk1 is its alleged ability to switch...
A Plane Perspectivity
Plichtová, Petra ; Voráčová, Šárka (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
This thesis is intended for high school and university students and their teachers, who want to expand their knowledges about plane geometry. In the introduction of the text we let the reader know ideal point, dividing ratio and cross ratio. Thesis shows the dividing mappings in plane according to their characteristics which they maintaining. With some simple examples it shows their use in practice, their characteristics and main types. Main part of the thesis is projective transformations and affine transformations, derivation of their characteristics, searching for other points and their use. The work is added with illuminating pictures and photos. Pictures were drawn in QCAD software and GeoGebra software.

Optimization in advertisement allocation
Do Chi, Linh ; Sekničková, Jana (advisor) ; Skočdopolová, Veronika (referee)
This thesis focuses on the optimization in advertisement allocation. The main aim of the bachelor's thesis is to propose a strategy, how to allocate an advertising for Penny Company s. r. o. that will maximize overall affinity by using quantitative methods. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. There are some indicators that specify measuring impact of advertising campaign and some basic types of media introduced to readers in the preliminary of theoretical section. Furthermore there are described basic concepts related to the linear programming together with methods and the ways of enrollment into system MPL for Windows which is later delivered itself as a troubleshooting. In the practical section there are two assignments of scheduling advertising which are solved by using MPL for Windows. In the end the results will be interpreted and verified.
Application of the blending problem into the marketing campaign making
Záhorovský, Radek ; Skočdopolová, Veronika (advisor) ; Šindelářová, Irena (referee)
Application of the blending problem is one of the basic tools used in the marketing campaign making. It uses the theoretical knowledge of the linear programming in the real-world problem. This method is used for the optimization of required goals accepting the given budget and conditions. Linear programming is one of the tools suitable for maximizing the efficiency of the spent costs when scheduling the budget into the different media types. Media agencies normally use sophisticated software based on the linear programming methods. The results can be implemented into other specific situations and for other companies with the same kind of product. After that results can be analyzed for the future use. Basic problem of application of the blending problem is the fact that it is difficult to include all the factors affecting the impact of marketing campaign into the mathematical model.
