Community housing in Brno-Komín
Špačková, Adéla ; Pekár, Pavel (referee) ; Novák, Antonín (advisor)
The subject of this master's thesis is the architectural project of community housing in the spirit of baugruppe. The project builds upon the work from the previous semester, which focused on the urban solution of the given location. The site is located on Řezáčova Street in the northeastern part of the municipal district Brno-Komín, situated in the northwest of the statutory city of Brno. It is a former area of gardens, which is currently falling into disrepair. The area is designated as a building reserve with a predominant residential function. The new residential complex provides quality housing, work opportunities, and the possibility of leisure activities. The construction of a new access road and the revitalization of deteriorating surrounding areas, where a pleasant park and playgrounds will be created. The main concept is to create a new form of housing in the form of four structures. The buildings are situated on a grid of 6x6 meters, precisely placed irregularly on the site with gradually added or subtracted masses. This creates regular corners for the main entrances to individual buildings, terraces with pergolas, gardens, or space for wild vegetation. The masses decrease gradually towards the southern slope, enhancing the natural sunlight penetration into less illuminated residential units. The development is divided into northern and southern blocks, each with an individual courtyard for the residents of the respective buildings. At the heart of these two blocks, a small square with an active ground floor serving for social events (markets, outdoor cinema, Christmas tree, theater, concerts, etc.) and gatherings of residents and passersby is created. The designed building consists of five mutually shifted volumes with a flat roof and a setback top floor with rooftop terraces. It is four stories tall. The first underground floor contains garages, cellars, and technical facilities, the first above-ground floor has a mixed function (residential, community, and public spaces), and the second, third, and fourth floors are residential. The building comprises a total of 26 residential units of various layouts, from 1+kk to 4+kk. The basic dominant feature of the entire visual style of the building is a regular grid, which divides the building into horizontal and vertical units, giving the facade a regular order. These protruding elements at column and beam locations are clad with massive wooden panels oriented along the longitudinal axis of the respective structural element. 3 Conversely, recessed infills are composed of vertical wooden slats, window openings, or terraces with planted climbing vegetation. Special emphasis is placed on the harmonious relationship with the surrounding natural environment in the design of the apartment building. This synergy is achieved through a series of architectural elements that respect the natural context while cultivating the relationship between the building and nature. Green roofs, planters with climbing vegetation on facades, and the courtyard space reflecting the green environment represent key strategies that support this integration. Green roofs, besides their aesthetic value, function as biodiversity zones, providing habitat for local fauna and flora. Planters with climbing greenery on facades contribute to the bioclimatic properties of the building, regulating temperature and reducing energy consumption, while also accentuating the organic character of the space.

Center for seniors in Brno-Medlánky
Minarčíková, Barbora ; Klimecký, Martin (referee) ; Gerö, Jiří (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis is to design a senior living facility in Brno – Medlánky. This task was preceded by a pre-diploma project within the subject NGA056 – Specialized project, developed in the previous semester, which consisted of preparing an urban study with a proposal for urban structure including transportation solutions and the placement of various functions - residential areas, commercial areas, public buildings, civic amenities, a sports hall, a church, and further development of the senior living facility. The architectural study focuses on creating a suitable environment for long-term stay for seniors, meaning comfortable living, outdoor relaxation areas, adequate technical infrastructure, and a variety of services. The design stems from the concept of a compact, clear, and barrier-free base space with social areas and facilities connecting three pavilions of housing units. This ensures privacy in the housing units while providing ample space for social interaction. Access to the terrain linked with a park located on the southern side of the plot is easy from both the base floor and the housing units, providing direct contact with greenery in outdoor spaces. The main entrance leading to the base on the first floor is designed with a representative atrium, reflecting the grandeur of the entire complex. Technical and operational facilities are expanded to cover the capacity of a potential additional fourth pavilion. The entire complex reflects the requirement for peaceful and high-standard living in old age, respecting contemporary architecture and the needs of today's population. As a result, it becomes a place for contented aging.

The architectural study of the senior center in Brno-Medlánky builds upon the territorial study carried out in the previous semester as part of the subject NGA056 - Specialized Studio (ArA). The result of the territorial study was a proposal for a compact development that combines all the needs of the area, from housing, through public amenities, a church, transportation connections with a tram loop, sports hall, park, to a senior center. Within the architectural study, a project was developed to create a comprehensive senior center that meets current standards. The center offers a wide range of services and facilities, quality common areas, as well as privacy in individual rooms and corresponding adjacent outdoor spaces. The design of the center is based on compactness and linearity. The center consists of two main volumes, with the larger one oriented parallel to the adjacent road. The second volume is perpendicular to it and they are connected by a communication block. In the front part facing the main road, a smaller entrance courtyard is created oriented to the west, while on the eastern side there is a larger space with a park. This area is bordered by the center's buildings on two sides, as well as adjacent residential buildings and greenery separating it from existing development, offering a peaceful space for seniors. Both volumes are located above an underground parking lot, which also extends under the entrance area. The individual buildings are then divided according to the services provided and the type of care. The ground floor offers a variety of services, a café, and the main entrance to the building, creating an active meeting place for clients and the public. The center aims to create dignified contemporary spaces for clients' stay and their integration into the surroundings, providing them with a pleasant atmosphere and a sense of belonging to their new home.

The assignment of the diploma project was to design a center for seniors in Brno - Medlánky. The project of the center for seniors follows on from the pre-diploma project, the aim of which was to design an urban structure on an unused plot of land between the technology park and Medlánky. The territory is defined by area development on the south, west and east sides. Part of the territorial study was also a proposal to extend tram line No. 12 towards the area under consideration. The location of the center for seniors follows from the developed territorial study, which is attached to this diploma project. The main motive for the creation of the center for seniors was to arrange the objects in such a way that they create a "safe embrace" that will provide the residents with a sense of security. The main building is thus L-shaped with rooms facing the quiet courtyard towards the amphitheater. In the event of a social event, guests can watch the program from their balconies or windows. The remaining rooms face the street. The ground floor of the building is partially embedded in the terrain and thanks to this it naturally connects to the amphitheater. I try to create pleasant, well-lit spaces in the house, so that there is always a good atmosphere and the guests can accept this place as their new home. The capacity of the center for seniors results from the elaborated analyzes attached in this project. The home for the elderly was supposed to include all the necessary operations, such as a central dining room, library, gymnasium, space for doctors, management offices, staff changing rooms, a central laundry room and other necessary technological facilities.

The architectural study for the elderly home follows on the urban-architectural study conducted in the previous semester as a part of the NGA056 – Specialised Studio course. The study resulted in a compact urban development with mix of functions. It includes not only housing, commerce, public buildings, the church, the sport hall and transport facilities, but also a block of centre for elderly. The architectural study is focused on creating a complex centre with good supply of services, amenities, privacy and, most importantly, quality spaces. The design is based on the concept of compactness. All pavilions which are full of spatial and operational requirements form a block and inner courtyard. The inner courtyard is situated above the underground parking, and it is adjacent to a park, connected to it by a ‘neck’. The park opens to the southwest and its borders are defined by the centre on the east and apartment building for elderly on north side. On the side which faces the centre of the new district, the block turns on its ground floor, accommodating a café, entrances and other services. It facilitates connection with the community, together with park on the opposite side. The proposal presents a contemporary perspective on housing for the elderly in our society. The spaces try to have their own identity, with which residents or clients can identify and accept a room or apartment as their home, rather than just a final stop on their life’s journey.

The task of the diploma thesis is to design a retirement home corresponding to the contemporary needs in Brno-Medlánky, which is based on the pre-diploma project of the urban structure design in the same locality. The site has a great potential for the development of the area, it allows for the future location of the missing functions that are missing in Brno-Medlánky, and thus to create an attractive location for quiet living with good transport links to the centre of Brno. The project of the retirement home seeks to create a quiet and attractive place for the elderly, where they can also take advantage of the activities offered in the vicinity, while not disturbing their surroundings. The site is located on the western border of the urban structure under consideration. It is bounded on the western side by the adjacent existing building, which is the office building of the software company Artin. On the north, south and east sides the area is bounded by a service road. The main access to the building is on the eastern side. This is mainly pedestrian access via the main entrance. This is oriented to the park with individual functions and is thus easily accessible, especially for the residents of the retirement home. The main guest parking area is located at the southern end of the site, with additional parking located at the main entrance. Car parking for staff and residents of the retirement home is proposed in the underground garage of the retirement home. The building is located in a predominantly green area, the aim of the work was to adapt the building as much as possible to its surroundings by designing biosolar roofs and getting the greenery as close as possible by using internal green courtyards. The greenery was also worked with inside the building, with atria created in parts with greenery and skylights that also bring natural light into the space. The design tries to respond to the surroundings and to the whole urban structure, and tries to make the whole site accessible to the public and thus exploit its potential.

A NEW SPACE FOR LIFE - KROMĚŘÍŽ - LUTOPECKÁ
Valdhans, Jan ; Urbášková, Hana (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
Abstract In the town of Kroměříž, in an attractive location near significant heritage-protected sites such as the Květná zahrada (Flower Garden) and the forest park area of the psychiatric hospital, as well as the popular excursion spot Barbořina, there is currently an unused, relatively large undeveloped area. The city council’s intention is to construct residential buildings with minor multifunctional features in this locality. The subject of my bachelor’s thesis was to find and develop a building solution that would offer a pleasant environment and comprehensive functions to support the lives of local residents, in line with current urban development trends. My work involved creating an overall conceptual solution, an urban layout proposal for the area, and developing a project for a new multifunctional building within the scope of architectural studies.
