Palová, Iva ; Ryška, Zbyněk (referee) ; Dýr, Petr (advisor)
The task of the diploma thesis was to develop an architectural study of the revizalization of a former textile factory for the needs of the ZOO Jihlava. The oldest part of the building was probably built at the beginning of the 20th century, but it does not fass under any kind of protection of czech heritage. The study should include a transport solution in connection with the ZOO (with an emphasis on increasing the capacity of parkong spaces), restaurants, ZOO exhibits, interactive educational elements, congress halls, short-term accommodation, a technical background of the building, the economic and energy concept of the building, the concept of planting greenery and water management solutions. The idea of the thesis is to connect the building with the ZOO, which gives visitors the opportunity to use the restaurant and continue viewing the indoor (also winter) exhibition. This creates another separate tour route. At the same time, all parts of Modeta are accessible separately outside the ZOO area.

From the point of view of the Zoo's requirements, there are to be exhibitions of rhinoceroses, orangutans, a nocturnary and a water world. As part of the multicultural development, a new restaurant, exhibition spaces, IQ park, fitness, congress center and apartments for temporary accommodation will be created here. As part of the project, two extensions to the Modety building will be created in order to meet all the capacity requirements of the given operations. Also, new roads and a parking lot for employees are designed in the area.

The topic of my Master‘s thesis is an architectural study of the reconstruction and revitalization of the former MODETA factory building, located near the Jihlava Zoo. The building is designed to have multifunctional use for the zoo. The construction program defines the building as a complementary facility to the functional complex of the Jihlava Zoo. The location is near the historical center of the city of Jihlava, along the Jihlávka river. The project was preceded by a pre-diploma project, in which I focused on the design of mobile containers for the Jihlava Zoo. In the building, there will be an animal exhibition connected to the zoo. The new section will be fully functional even in the winter season. You will find here the Water World with an exhibit of a small crocodile - the Dwarf Caiman. There will also be an Orangutan exhibit and a Night World, where mammals will have an opposite regime (night during the day). The exhibit of small monkeys is located on the 2nd floor, where there is also a 2nd observation point for orangutans. You can also observe them from a bridge that connects the building to the zoo. For zoo staff, there is a facility with offices, a workshop, and sanitary facilities. A self-service restaurant with a capacity of up to 150 people on the 1st floor serves both the public and employees, whose facilities are connected to the restaurant. The public will also have access to a congress and exhibition hall, where it is possible to create two separate events or combine spaces by sliding mobile partitions to increase capacity. The halls are connected by elevators and stairs to accommodation on the 3rd floor and the restaurant for refreshments on the 1st floor. Accommodation can be used by the public as well as educational institutions. The IQ Park is located on the 2nd floor, accessible by a separate entrance or directly from the Night World. There will be interactive equipment with animal themes and a screening room with a capacity of 60 people.

Proposal for a redesign of the exoterium of ZOO Brno
Kalábková, Tereza ; Boháč, Ivo (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
This bachelor´s thesis focuses on the redesign of Exoteria in the Brno Zoo, where the current structure is outdated and aesthetically unpleasing, barely meeting the needs of birds and lacking the necessary attractiveness for a facility of this kind. The goal of the thesis is to propose an innovative and functional solution in the form of four functional units: a bird pavilion, an aquarium pavilion, facilities for staff, and a refreshment facility. The architectural design combines an ecological approach with the concept of open architecture, aiming to connect visitors with nature and animals. It offers an open space in the outdoor aviary of the bird pavilion and features a green element with a vegetative façade for the refreshment facility. The aquarium pavilion is envisioned as a multifunctional center for meetings and education, allowing for lectures, film screenings, and other cultural events that connect visitors with the underwater world. The thesis delves into the details of the aquarium pavilion and the refreshment facility. The proposal involves the removal of overgrown vegetation and trees, with a priority on minimizing impacts on the natural environment. Simultaneously, the thesis suggests replanting new trees to preserve ecological balance. The work is based on the architectural design studio in the fourth year, with a focus on interior design.
Exotarium
Přítulová, Anna ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is the Exotárium pavilion in the Brno ZOO, which supposed to replace the existing building, which no longer meets the spatial, hygienic or technical requirements. The building is located in the center of the ZOO area at the intersection of several visitor routes. Conceptually, the design is divided into two buildings – the tropics pavilion dedicated to Papua New Guinea and pavilion of inland Australia. These two buildings are connected on the underground level by a technical floor. Areas for animals are adapted for the breeding of exotic birds, small mammals and fish. The pavilion is divided longitudinally into three tracts – technical and hygienic facilities, corridors for visitors and indoor aviaries. The building is equipped both for the preparation of feed and the care of animal health, as well as for the rearing of young. In the center of the layout is the central space for visitors and the Water world. The extended area of the corridor is equipped with furniture and presentation equipment, which can also be used for lectures and events for schools. The dominant element of the space for visitors is the acoustic ceiling consisting of prisms of different lengths of green wood wool. This ceiling is intended to create the impression of a canopy of a tropical forest. The curved wall between the aviaries and the corridor is intended to offer unconventional views into the aviaries, but still provide the animals with sufficient privacy. The building is serviced through a staff entrance on the south-east side of the building and the technical facilities are accessible via an unpaved road on the underground level from the south-west slope below the Australia pavilion building. This route is only used to transport the technological equipment of the building. The building, with its predominantly gray and contrasting interior, corresponds with the Australia pavilion, where more earthy colors are used. The buildings are united mainly by the facade and are connected by the construction of through external aviaries.
Exotarium ZOO Brno
Kučera, Jiljí ; Wittmann, Maxmilian (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is the design of a pavilion for the Australia - New Guinea exhibition in Brno Zoo. The building serves mainly as an exposition and home for exotic species of birds, small mammals and fish. The building should meet all the conditions of buildings for the public, working conditions for employees and animal welfare. The area under consideration is located in the premises of the Brno Zoo, in the northern part of the district of Bystrc. The construction site is located roughly in the middle of the zoo at the crossroads between the Tropical Pavilion and the African Village. The relatively sloping, irregular plot is accessible from the north and east sides by a campus road. The kangaroo enclosure is directly adjacent to the west side, while the bison and camel enclosures are located to the north, across the road. The resulting design consists of a two-storey building that follows the contour line of the site. It is a building composed of two regular masses of rectangular plan. The upper smaller mass is superimposed on the lower larger mass. The pavilion includes indoor and outdoor aviaries, terrariums, aquariums, staff facilities, animal facilities and food preparation. The facade of the Exotarium imitates the red rock typical of Australia. It is made up of an ETICS system to which a moulded polystyrene layer and a painted surface will be added. An extensive green roof with aviaries is proposed on the main building. The design includes a small plaza to provide shade for visitors. Two buildings are proposed within the square - refreshments and public toilets. The bachelor thesis is based on documents in the form of assignment, dwg drawing of the cadastral situation and architectural study from the course BGA036 - Architectural Atelier 5.
