Word Formation in Czech Language Textbooks for Grammar Schools

The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyse the topic of word-formation in Czech language textbooks for grammar schools. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the topic of word-formation - basic terminology, word formation means, especially composition with the focus on hybrid compound words and quasi-compound words. The theoretical part then introduces the fundamental curricular documents including the position and importance of the education content of the Czech language, introduces an innovative communicative approach in Czech language teaching and, last but not least, besides the revised Bloom taxonomy it also defines the role of textbooks in teaching and the possible criteria used for textbook evaluation. The practical part is introduced by establishing the method for the evaluation of the individual textbooks, followed by analysis. Afterwards, the research sample is briefly described. The respondents were, by means of a questionnaire, inquired about the process of teaching word-formation and use of Czech language textbooks in teaching. The results of the inquiry serve to complement the analysis of textbooks, offering insight into the actual teaching of word-formation in high schools. Word-formation patterns in contemporary French neologisms

The present thesis aims to excerpt a sample of contemporary neologisms and then analyse them. The theoretical part introduces word-formation patterns used in French, which are then applied in the practical part to the excerpted sample from the Néoveille platform and further analysed with the help of a linguistic corpus, the web and artificial intelligence.

Derivational Morphology of Czech on Large Corpus Data

Subject of this thesis is study of word formation in the Czech language. The main aim is to create a module acquiring derivations from data of the electronic Dictionary of the Czech Language. This problematics has been solved by constructing three-level processing based on dictionary data. The first level is to obtain derivations from lemma definitions, the second step is making groups of basic forms according to their similarities, and the third stage is the evaluation of derivation pairs by number tag of derivation class to which they belong. I have managed to get more than 4 500 new words and evaluate over 20 000 derivative couples. The module has become a full-fledged part of the Morphological Analyzer of the Knowledge Technology Research Group, working at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Brno University of Technology.

Morphological Analyser Implemented as FSAs

We describe morphemic analyser using dictionary approach. Dictionary is saved as deterministic finite state automata. Another part of text deals with analysis of numerals, especially retrieving numeric value from that words. Besides the analysis there is description of generating word-formation relationships in this work.

Derivational Analysis in Czech

In the theoretical part of the thesis, we will describe word-formation in Czech from the traditional point of view. Then we will dwell on automation of word formation based on derivational rules, which we will generate from a~given dictionary. The quality of new-found words will be evaluated using four different estimations. Finally, we will review achieved results.

Czech Reality in Chinese Language of the Newsletter of Chinese Living in the Czech Republic (Jiéhuá tōngxùn)

This thesis is focused on Czech realia in Chinese language in a magazine called Newsletter of the Chinese Living in the Czech Republic Jiéhuá tōngxùn 捷华通讯. The analysis of the collected material is introduced by chapters about Chinese lexicon, word- formation and loan-words. Material referring to the Czech realia from selected issues of the magazine is divided into theme groups. Material is analyzed and compared with the common Chinese lexical system. Material includes not only loan-words, but also common Chinese words, which are used for describing Czech realia. At the end of the thesis, there are described some tendencies in terming Czech realia. Collected material is in the attachment of this thesis and could be used as a dictionary. The suffix -bile in present-day Italian and its equivalents in a parallel corpus

This thesis deals with functional equivalents of Italian adjectives with the suffix -bile in present-day Italian based on the Czech-Italian parallel linguistic corpus InterCorp. In the opening theoretical part the main objective of the thesis is introduced - a comparison of the Czech suffix -telný with the Italian suffix -bile. In the next chapters the thesis focuses on corpus material characteristics - on frequency list - from qualitative and quantitative aspects and on Czech equivalents' typology. The last part concentrates on statistical evaluation of Czech translation solutions, on the individual percentage representation of Czech equivalents' variants and on general trends while translating these adjectives with the suffix -bile into Czech.
