The role and significance of the Central Music of the Army of the Czech Republic in contemporary society

This bachelor thesis examines the activities of the Central Music of the Army of the Czech Republic (CM ACR) which as one of the few military music ensembles in the Czech Republic withstood the gradual reduction of many military ensembles after the coup in 1989. The aim of the thesis is to map the activities of the CM ACR from 2010 to the present. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the composition of the orchestra, with emphasis on the repertoire and the musical production itself. The practical part follows, through a halfstructured interview and the journey of a few selected members of the CM ACR to become full members of this musical ensemble. Everyday Life of Military Musicians in the Austro-Hungarian Army before the First World War

This work examines the everyday life of military musicians in Austro-Hungarian army during the second half of the 19th century and before the First World War. The work focuses on the activities of military musicians, on places of their performance and on the way of thinking in military bands. Austrian military bands were regarded as the best military bands of the world and therefore the work researches their history and their organizational structure too. The final part of this thesis is trying to reveal a relation between public opinion and military music.
Percussion Instruments in a military brass Bands

This thesis describes a role of percussion instruments in military brass bands. The first part of the thesis is presents functions and tasks which military music must deal with. The second chapter describes history of military music from ancient ages up to present with special focus on Central Europe region. The third chapter tries to comprehend a role of percussion instruments in the military brass band within its variability. Connections between brass bands and symphonic orchestra and popular music are mentioned. The third chapter is concluded by comparison of two different types of compositions intended for brass band: Austro-Hungarian military march by Julius Fučík and Music for Prague 1968 by Karel Husa are presented as two examples of traditional brass band composition and modern composition of avant-garde 20th century music.
