Importance of the Visegrad Group for member states
Stanová, Zuzana ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
Nowadays, there are numerous regional and universal international organizations. The objective of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the importance of one of them, the Visegrad Group. The importance of the Visegrad Group is observed in term of fulfilling the functions of international organizations. This thesis introduces in the first (theoretical) part different typologies of functions of international organizations, other (analytical) parts of the thesis tie in with the theoretical one and provide short overview of some examples of (not) fulfilling the six observed functions. The Visegrad Group doesn't fulfil adequately all the observed functions, therefore it is also considered to be an international regime. Moreover, some of the functions are fulfilled by other international organizations, which the Visegrad Group member states are the members of. This fact waters down the importance of the Visegrad Group.

The first area is getting over the past and opting out of obligations arisen under the Communist regime, such as negotiations on the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Czechoslovakia and active participation of Czechoslovakia on the dissolution of the Warsaw Treaty Organization. Another area is the contribution of Czechoslovak diplomacy to debate on new architecture for international relations in the period after the end of the bipolar division of the world. It is specifically a proposal for a European security commission based on the CSCE and the Harvard plan to help the economy of the USSR and its former satellites. The third area is the activity of Czechoslovak diplomacy in international regional cooperation in Central Europe, in the so called Visegrad Group. An important source of information were the personal interviews with witnesses.

Trade Development and Trade Perspectives of Visegrad Group
Ismatova, Sevara ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Zamykalová, Miroslava (referee)
Thesis examines the trade development in the Visegrad countries, the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Poland and Hungary through the detailed analyses of their historical trends in GDP, currency and inflation, and foreign trade. The timeline of their trade development was split into two periods: during communism and after the collapse of communism. The study showed that the Visegrad countries' trade was concentrated mostly within the CMEA countries and their trade relations with the West were restricted which held them back from their earlier integration into the EU and also kept down their economic growth for several decades. Their economies were centrally planned and state held monopoly over foreign trade which caused them to be much less competitive on world markets. The period after the collapse of their communist regimes involves their transition to market economy and their full integration into the EU with the increasing share of the EU in their foreign trade. The analysis of this period emphasizes the importance of the openness of their economies in their gained economic growth. Another purpose of the study was to look into their trade perspectives with the economic projections and their future accession into the Eurozone. Visegrad countries' cooperation in attracting FDI into the region was also found important for their economic stabilization and future growth in today's competitive world.

Development of trade in goods and services between Germany and countries of the Visegrad Group between 2004 and 2008
Černý, Jan ; Karpová, Eva (advisor) ; Bič, Josef (referee)
This paper examines the trade between Germany and countries of the Visegrad Group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, thereinafter as V4) from 2004 to 2008. Germany is a very important business partner for all of these countries. It focuses mainly on the influence of the economic development of Germany on trade of these countries and also the influence of the EU eastward enlargement in May 1st 2004, when the countries of V4 joined the internal market of EU. Firstly, the economic development in Germany between 2004 and 2008 is described. Other factors, which influenced the trend in trade between Germany and the countries of V4 are also mentioned. After that, description of the development of trade in goods and services between Germany and each single country follows - before 2004 and between 2004 and 2008. Finally, development of the trade of particular countries is compared. On the basis of this comparison, a strong influence of the development of the German economy mainly on the trade in goods between Germany and countries of V4 is proven. There is also an obvious effect of EU eastward enlargement -- it evoked a strong increase in export and import. Following characteristics are typical for trade between Germany and countries of V4: For all of these countries Germany is the main business partner, but it's share on the trade of these countries is decreasing. Big share of machinery and transport equipment (mainly in Hungary and Slovakia) is also important. Trade in this commodity group strongly depends on the economic situation in Germany.
The enlargement of the Schengen area in 2007 with a view to the Czech Republic
Klemšová, Veronika ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
The diploma thesis aims to describe the enlargement of the Schengen area in 2007 with nine states that became members of the EU in 2004- without Cyprus. The great attention is paid to the Czech Republic. In the first chapter I explain the basic terms and mechanisms of the Schengen cooperation. The next chapter deals with the preparation course and the evaluation proces of the states preparing for the accession to the Schengen area. It was the Visegrad group (V4) which played a very important role during the preparation that is why I focused on the cooperation of this group in the third part of my diploma thesis. At the same time there is the visa harmonization cooperation within V4 mentioned there. The main part of the diploma thesis is the chapter called the Czech Republic and the Schengen area where I analyse a strategy and arrangements implemented in the Czech Republic. The enlargement of the Schengen area with nine new states was accomplished in 2007 thanks to consistent preparation of all countries that was verified by evaluation mission experts. The participation in the Schengen area has its positive and negative sides. The impacts of the Schengen enlargement and the problems rised after accession of nine states to the Schengen are more described in the last chapter.
