Traditions and customs in Czech and Ukrainian literature of the 19th century

(in English): The bachelor thesis deals with traditions and customs of the Czech and Ukrainian literature of the 19th century. Work contains the theoretical part with a brief description of the development of Czech and Ukrainian literature of the 19th century, those mentioned personalities had great influence on shaping of the literature of this period. The practical part of the text is dedicated to important Czech and Ukrainian authors, such as Bozena Nemcova, Karolina Svetla, Karel Jaromír Erben, Taras Shevchenko, Hryhoriy Kvitka- Osnovjanenko, Ivan Kotliarevsky, Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, and Mykhailo Kocjubynskyj. The works of these authors are used as the primary literature of the thesis. Based on the study of selected literature, examples of traditions, customs and superstitions that are associated with such events of human life such as birth, engagement, wedding, funeral, and celebration of some holidays were analyzed in this part of the text. These events are categorized and compared. The practical part also contains research whether and to what extent mentioned traditions, customs and superstitions in both cultures are still kept alive. Analysis of translation of the short story Girls by Oksana Zabužko

This dissertation is dedicated to the Ukraine writter Oksana Zabuzhko. At the beginning I'm describing literary-historical and biografical circumstances which led to the birth of her creation. Then I'm focusing on the charasteristic of her prosaic work and her style of writing including the very detailed analysis of her collections of stories named " Sister, sister". This dissertation is as well describing the position of female literature in the present Ukraine literacy process and Oksana Zabuzhko 's part in its development. Second part of my dissertation is focused on the analysis of the translated story called "Girls", from the collection of stories "Sister, sister". Evalution criterions are in this case the questions of equivalence - adequacy of the translation, translation of (un)translatable lexical units in Czech, the problems with translations of facts, translation of foreign languages' parts in original text and reproduction Olga Zabuzkova's style in all levels - syntactic, lexical and expressive as well. Minor mistakes in the translation to the Czech version were revealed during the research, but overall the translation is rated as a very successful one. The translator succeed in transfering of artistic values and pragmatic effect of the original work into Czech language.

Ideological and thematical concept of M. Matios' trilogy Cолодка Даруся. Нація. Майже ніколи не навпаки

This diploma work is devoted to the personality of contemporary Ukrainian writer Mariya Matios. Particular attention is focused on the analysis of her trilogy including Солодка Даруся, Нація and Майже ніколи не навпаки. The aim of this thesis is to explore ideological and thematic conception of novels and mechanisms used for their mediation. The introductory chapter presents a detailed analysis of the current literary process, issues of gender discourse in Ukrainian literature and characteristics of other discourses which the writer's works belong to. Based on this analysis the personality of Mariya Matios is included in the context of the current literature. The main part analyses specific topics of the trilogy and defines the specifics of author's attitude. The biggest attention is paid to the author's peculiarity in processing of historical issues, depiction of female characters and analysis of particular concepts (village people and sin) dominating in the trilogy. At the end her exceptionality and contribution to contemporary literature is evaluated.

(in English) The bachelor thesis deals with traditions and customs of Czech and Ukrainian literature of the 19th century. The thesis contains a historical part with a brief description of the Czech and Ukrainian literature development in the 19th century, which describes the events that had the greatest influence on shaping of this century's literature. The analytical part is dedicated to significant Czech and Ukrainian authors such as Božena Němcová, Karolina Světlá, Karel Jaromír Erben, Taras Shevchenko, Hryhory Kvitka-Osnovyanenko, Ivan Kotliarevsky, Ivan Nechuy-Levycky and Mikhaylo Kotsiubynsky. The works of these authors are used as primary literature of the thesis. Based on literature research, the analysis includes traditions, customs and superstitions related to the following life stages: birth, engagement, marriage, and death. The thesis also contains the comparison of folk tradition descriptions in both literatures.

Translations of Ukrainian literature into Czech 1989-2014

(in English): This diploma thesis Translations of Ukrainian literature into Czech 1989-2014 is devoted to the analysis of the development of the Czech-Ukrainian translation process after 1989. The basic objectives of the thesis are to prepare a complete bibliographic list of translations of Ukrainian literature into Czech in the period 1989-2014 based on various sources of information (books, magazines, internet portals), to record the authentic experience of the new generation of translators and to establish the basis for Ukrainian translatology. The introductory chapter is devoted to the history of Czech-Ukrainian literary relations, which are the basis for their development at present. The main part is the research of a modern translation process, which contains a list of translations, analysis of motivation of translators, publishing strategies of the publishing houses and the reception of Ukrainian literature in the Czech Republic. Greater attention is devoted to the publication of translations of Ukrainian literature in journals. Provocation and breaking the stereotypes in the works of Juriy Vynnychuk

This bachelor work is devoted to the personality of contemporary Ukrainian writer Yuriy Vynnychuk. Particular attention is focused on that part of his work and his non-literary activities which are characterised by using provocation, mystification and breaking stereotypes. The aim of this thesis is, on the basis of these three key areas, to map all of his works which feature provocative elements, to attempt to create their typology and make a deeper analysis of selected works. The introductory chapter presents a detailed analysis of the current literary process, particularly of the elements that are focused on the destruction of the traditional canon. Based on this analysis Vynnychuk's works are included in the context of the current literature. The main part analyses specific works and Vynnychuk's approach is compared with other authors dealing with similar issues. At the end his exceptionality and contribution to contemporary literature is evaluated.
