Characteristic features of individuals with tinnitus at their art work
MAŽÁROVÁ, Silvia
ABSTRACT Title: Characteristic features of individuals with tinnitus at their art work Objectives: The goals of the theoretical part are to collect information about psychosomatic problems and diseases, their definition, etiology, pathogenesis and therapy. More specifically observing the problematics around tinnitus. Then collecting information about art therapy of psychosomatic diseases. The goals of the practical part are to design the hypothesis and methodics, which may reveal if the hypotheses are right. Methods: The thesis represent three client case studies. Clients were working on thematic aquarelles, collages and a few kvinterno colour tests. Besides the creative process (which was the nonverbal, expressive part of the therapies) we collect anamnestic data by client interviews, analyze and interpret the pictures of clients (verbal part of the therapies). Results: We found out about some common features in the artwork (used colors, composition, view of the perspective, etc.) that are characteristic for these clients. These common features link to psychosomatic disease, in our case to tinnitus.

The diploma thesis is dealing with the issue of tinnitus which is defined as the perception of sound within the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound. The thesis describes classification, etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy of tinnitus. The focus lies particularly in the description of various therapeutic approaches. Empirical part of the thesis presents the case studies of 12 respondents with tinnitus. Using qualitative research methods, the answers received from German respondents from Hesse region are compared to the answers of respondents living in the Czech Republic. The research focuses on the tinnitus diagnose, cooperation with experts, possibilities of therapy and their results, ways of funding, satisfaction of respondents with the therapy and contribution of self-help group for people with tinnitus.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation for the treatment of tinnitus
Milerová, Jana ; Anders, Martin (advisor) ; Mohr, Pavel (referee) ; Syka, Josef (referee)
Tinnitus is a common and often severely disabling symptom that is characterized by the perceived sensation of sound in the absence of an external stimulus. Traditional treatment approaches have limited efficacy. It is assumed, that tinnitus is connected with dysfunctional activation of neuronal plasticity induced by altered sensory and somatosensory input. Adaptive neuroplastic processes alter the balance between excitatory and inhibitory function of the auditory system at several levels. Functional imaging studies in tinnitus patients have revealed increased neronal activity of primary auditory cortex (PAC). Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) induces changes of neuronal activity that outlast the stimulation period. Low-frequency rTMS over the PAC region results in a decrease of cortical activity by inducing long term depression (LTD) and leads to reduced tinnitus perception. The aim of this study was to assess in prospective randomized placebo- controlled study the ability of active low-frequency rTMS guided by frameless stereotaxy to affect symptoms of chronic tinnitus compared to placebo stimulation. Treatment outcome was assessed by subjective specific questionnaires; Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Tinnitus Questionnaire (TQ) and Visual analogue scales (VAS1, VAS2)...
Quality of life in patients after vestibular Schwannoma surgery
Hajná, Barbora ; Čakrt, Ondřej (advisor) ; Chovanec, Martin (referee)
TVestibular schwannoma is a benign tumor that arises from the Schwann cells of the vestibular nerve. Unilateral hearing loss, tinnitus, facial and trigeminal dysfunction and vertigo are the most common symptoms. Surgical removal of the tumor is one of the treatment modalities of this disease. Surgical excision usually involves the complete vestibular nerve resection and there is also a risk of cochlear and facial nerve lesion. This thesis deals with changes in quality of life in patients after vestibular schwannoma sugery, which are associated with balance deficits, tinnitus and facial palsy.
The use of physiotherapeutic means in some types of tinnitus
Housová, Barbora ; Procházka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Smékal, David (referee)
This thesis is an update of the bachelor work entitled "The application of physiotherapeutic tools for some tinnitus types". The original work was complemented with the latest findings in pathogenesis field and in therapy by physiotherapeutic tool. The fundamental of this diploma thesis is a study examining the quality of patients' lives with tinnitus. The study was based upon a research using a modified questionnaire Tinnitus Handicap Inventory by Newman's et. al. (1999). Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Specifics of nursing care fot patients with tinitus
PÁNKOVÁ, Zuzana
Tinnitus is the technical term for an unpleasant perception of the inner sound source, i.e. for rustle, which may be known as the noise in the head, fizz and ringing in the ears. Symptoms of tinnitus feels about 15% of the population. At the age of 65 years it has been almost every second. Tinnitus is not itself considered as a disease, but as a symptom, which may be a sign of other health problems, mental and physical kind. We distinguish subjective and objective tinnitus. Objective can hear usually and another man, subjective not, it is actually audible hallucinations, which occurs in most cases. Tinnitus is considered one of the great mysteries of human ear. Exposure to intense noise increases the risk of its occurrence. For example, frequent stays in noisy ambience, such as concerts, music festivals, night clubs or listening to music players at high volume levels. An accompanying physical symptom is often a hearing loss. A possible cause may be even injuries of the head, neck, vascular disease, or just an ear inflammation. It is recommended to avoid foods with excessive levels of salt, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and some painkillers. For the diagnosis of tinnitus is required to undergo the complex medical examination, which includes a summary of the case history, medical examination and the audiological assessment. The first step is to visit a general practitioner and an otolaryngologist. Currently there is no approved drug specifically for the treatment of tinnitus. Most treatment options are based on the suppression of tinnitus, together with a reduction of stress. The patient can be helped by improving circulation in the blood vessels and in the cochlea. Therapy can also include elements of education, such as relaxation techniques and psychological therapy. There is the possibility of alternative treatments (acupuncture). This disease is due to its character very demanding on the psyche of the patient. People affected by tinnitus complain of impaired quality of rest and sleep, but also concentration, suffer mentally and physically. Often are they irritated and due to difficulties feel the uncomfortableness, what a relationship with their surroundings disturbs even more. They can have serious psychic problems. An integral part in the diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus, is a nurse. Audiometric examination is carried out by an audiological nurse, aligns the body and the head during otoscopic examination, blood draw and obviously has great effect on the mental preparation of the patient. During therapy nurse establishes a peripheral venous catheter, it is responsible for the proper application of vasodilator infusions, which consists not only in knowledge of the principles of administration of the infusion, but also in the proper patient education. Specificity of a work of nurses in hyperbaric oxygen therapy follows from a technical background, and the need for special physical, mental training and patient education. Research investigations have revealed the specifics of nursing care for patients with tinnitus, the most important seems to patient communication and education, furthermore, a specific examination methods (audiometry), the specifics of treatment (vasodilator infusions, hyperbaric oxygen therapy). The diversity in responses of patients to tintius, the impact of tinnitus on quality of life, needs and problems of patients with tinnitus - this all are the specifics, which nursing staff should know and adequately respond to them. The research shows, that the questioned nurses have general knowledge and skills in treating patients with tinnitus. They know the available investigative and therapeutic methods, problems of patients, know how to tinnitus evaluate and observe. Striking is the fact, that one interviewed nurse has had low professional skills with blood draw, venous catheter application and could not handle the preparation and application of a vasodilator infusion.
The specialized social consultancy in sphere of hearing like a implement of improvement in social function
ENTLICHEROVÁ, Ivana
In my thesis I explain the basic terms in the field of hearing impairment. One of my topics is what is for hearing impairment people specialist social consulting and social functioning. I divide hearing impairment people according to their loss of hearing. I describe and divide compensatory aids for this target group: communication barriers (hearing aid, personal amplifier, turned-up cell phones), then for information barriers (an induction loop, wireless headphones and headphones for radios and TVs) and in the end barriers deal with a contact with an external environment (signalling of a door bell, signalling of time or others actions). Due to wideness of this problem I am focused on the communication barrier which is the most important one from the point of view of social excluding. Other communication barriers follow this one. I deal with a qualitative research using the method of "coincidence selection" and a technique of a semi-controlled dialogue. The research was done in Poradenské centrum pro sluchově postižené v Táboře.
