Search of identity of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (1945 - 1962). Nationwide and Local Perspective.
Beneš, Ladislav ; Spurný, Matěj (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to analyze the process of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren finding its own identity between 1945 and 1962. During this period of time the church had to respond to many types of political pressure. The author will examine various historical sources in one of the church's congregations, ECCB in Pardubice, searching for competing identities and loyalties of the local Christians, including reactions of the church to legal and political regulations of the state. In particular, the author will focus on the local pastor and later professor at the Faculty of Theology, Josef Smolík, who personified both the "common Christians" and the "elites" of ECCB.
