Automatic Generation of Steps for DDR
Skála, František ; Glembek, Ondřej (referee) ; Černocký, Jan (advisor)
The goal of this work is to draft methods suitable for automatic creation of step-files from music files for a DDR computer dance game. This problem is divided into two main parts - beat detection, thus determining the song tempo, and determination of steps itselves. Beat detection is based on detection of energy growths in particual frequency subbands and following statistical alignment of results. Step creation works similarly, but it focuses on detection of all intense moments of music and contains a logic for placing steps into different directions. Testing by users showed that application has the potential to address players seeking set of simple steps for their favourite songs. The quality of beat detection gives field for application of these methods even beyond scope of example application. This document also suggest a few possible improvements of used methods.
Determining the place of origin of interpretation based on the music signal parameterization
Brada, Tomáš ; Schimmel, Jiří (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
Presented thesis summarizes existing findings in the problematics of music recording comparison, in the field of so-called Music Information Retrieval. One of the goals of the thesis is to perform analysis of multiple musical renditions from the point of view of the tempo, dynamics and sound timbre. From the obtained data, such musical parameters will be chosen which exhibit the biggest potential to differentiate the origine of the individual renditions.
Research of tempo features comparing audio records
Ištvánek, Matěj ; Galáž, Zoltán (referee) ; Kiska, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis deals with technical properties of audio signals or more precisely of recordings from the prepared database and describes parameters which are used for music transcription and analysis of audio signals. It summarises information about music theory and automatic transcription of audio recordings, introduces specialist studies that deal with problems of signal analysis and their results. Furthermore it mentions attributes with the best ability to generally differentiate included songs from rhythmical and metrical aspects. Thesis analyses in the MATLAB language, from the prepared database, all interpretations of the piece "String Quartet No. 1 – IV. Con moto" from Leoš Janáček with two selected methods and shows results of the analysis and comparing of the methods. Finally the work summarizes all information and problems of the thesis.
Analysis of Expressive Music Performance using Digital Signal Processing Methods
Fančal, Petr ; Mekyska, Jiří (referee) ; Smékal, Zdeněk (advisor)
The aim of this master's thesis is the analysis of musical compositions from the standpoint of time resources of music. The introduction briefly describes the basic musicological terms and variables that are in direct relationship to the time resources in expressive music performance. The following part of the work is devoted to the known methods of digital signal processing, suitable for music information retrieval from audio recordings. In the practical part these methods are demonstrated on three recordings in MATLAB environment and the results were compared in terms of used agogics.
Analysis of Expressive Music Performance using Digital Signal Processing Methods
Ištvánek, Matěj ; Mekyska, Jiří (referee) ; Smékal, Zdeněk (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with methods of the onset and tempo detection in audio signals using specific techniques of digital processing. It analyzes and describes the issue from both the musical and the technical side. First, several implementations using different programming environments are tested. The system with the highest detection accuracy and adjustable parameters is selected, which is then used to test functionality on the reference database. Then, an extension of the algorithm based on the Teager-Kaiser energy operator in the preprocessing stage is created. The difference in accuracy of both systems is compared – the operator has on average increased the accuracy of detection of a global tempo and inter-beat intervals. Finally, a second dataset containing 33 different interpretations of the first movement of Bedřich Smetana’s composition, String Quartet No. 1 in E minor "From My Life". The results show that the average tempo of the entire first movement of the song slightly decreases depending on the later year of the recording.
Analysis of prosodic and spectral properties of voice communication in air traffic control
Simonides, Jakub ; Kopřiva, Tomáš (referee) ; Smékal, Zdeněk (advisor)
This thesis analyses the prosodic and spectral features of bi-directional air traffic control communication, describes how to communication was split to segments, according to the source, via transcription. After the splitting, the segments are deeply analyzed for their spectral and prosodic features. The analysis itself, focuses on the spectral aspects of intensity, fundamental frequency F0, slope and centroid. Additionally, tempo and voice activity detection data were measured, to support the spectral aspects as well. Because of the differences between the ATC controller’s and pilots’ spectral aspects, the direction of the communication can be automatically determined, with relatively high success percentage.
Extraction of parameters for the research of music performance
Laborová, Anna ; Miklánek, Štěpán (referee) ; Ištvánek, Matěj (advisor)
Different music performances of the same piece may significantly differ from each other. Not only the composer and the score defines the listener’s music experience, but the music performance itself is an integral part of this experience. Four parameter classes can be used to describe a performance objectively: tempo and timing, loudness (dynamics), timbre, and pitch. Each of the individual parameters or their combination can generate a unique characteristic performance. The extraction of such objective parameters is one of the difficulties in the field of Music Performance Analysis and Music Information Retrieval. The submitted work summarizes knowledge and methods from both of the fields. The system is applied to extract data from 31 string quartet performances of 2. movement Lento of String Quartet no. 12 F major (1893) by czech romantic composer Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904).
The impact of digital music distribution on the structure of songs and the way they are published
Škopek, Matěj ; Ježková, Tereza (advisor) ; Halada, Jan (referee)
The topic of this thesis is musical compositions and the potential impact of the modern method of their distribution on their structural characteristics, overall form, and method of their release. The work compares two periods, from the years 2005-2010 and 2015-2020, i.e., before and after the rise in popularity of music streaming services such as Spotify. The author's goal is to find a correlation between the changes of parameters selected by him and the development of the music industry and music distribution. In the work, the author first presents the concept of distribution in this broader, general sense of the word and its role as part of the marketing mix. It follows the role of distribution in the context of the music industry and a more detailed description and overall shape of the music market in each of the defined time periods. For each researched year, 10 songs were chosen that ranked at the top of the American music chart Billboard Hot 100. Therefore, the author's research includes 120 recordings. The monitored parameters are the length of the song, its tempo, the location of the first chorus, the total number of choruses, and whether the song was released as a separate single. The author presents five hypotheses that are based on the authors' publications in the field of music. As...

The Correlation between the Speed of the Source Speech and Simultaneous Interpreter's Performance.
Moravcová, Dagmar ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor) ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee)
The purpose of the present thesis is to look into the correlation between the speed of the source speech and simultaneous interpreter's performance between Czech and French from the perspective of the French listeners of the source speeches in French, of two groups of interpreters (students and professionals) and of the listeners of the speeches interpreted into Czech. The thesis consists of the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part outlines Daniel Gile's Effort Model and than focuses on the delivery rate of the source speech and on various theoretical approaches of different scholars, on the errors occured in the process of simultaneous interpreting, on intrepretation strategies and on the quality of interpretation. The empirical part describes the research method, the experiment itself and the results of the experiment which focuses both on the number of occurences of different interpretation stategies in relation to the source speech delivery rate and on the number of occurences of various error categories depending on the speed of the quasi-authentic source speeches. The empirical part examines the differences between the performance of the students and of the interpreters. Their performance is then assessed by the Czech listeners. Keywords simultaneous interpretation,...
