The Use of Selected Techniques in Working with Clients in a Home with Special Regime
MACEŠKOVÁ, Eliška
This bachelor thesis deals with the use of selected techniques in working with clients in a home with special regime. The aim of the bachelor 's thesis was to map how employees of homes with special regime use selected techniques in working with seniors with dementia syndrome. This is a topical issue, as the number of people with this disease who require special care is constantly increasing. The bachelor thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the issue and the definition of important terms based on literature and legislation - dementia, services suitable for seniors with dementia, selected techniques in working with seniors with dementia etc. In the practical part, the work deals with research. The research mapped the use of individual work techniques - basal stimulation, sensory activation, psychobiographical model of care Erwin Böhm in homes with a special regime in the Central Bohemian Region, and this part presents the results achieved in the research. The strategy of qualitative research was chosen for the elaboration of the research in the practical part of this bachelor 's thesis. Within this strategy, the method of questioning was chosen together with the technique of semi-structured interview. Research has shown, for example, that employees use the technique of basal stimulation, sensory activation and the psychobiographical model of care Erwin Böhm in harmony with each other. The results of the research will serve as feedback to the informants involved in the research and as a subject for possible streamlining in work with selected techniques in homes with a special regime.

SOUKUPOVÁ, Iveta
A population aging and extending life is more and more current topic in medicine and other spheres. This topic is associated with dementia, which concerns a significant part of seniors and in retirement house we meet people with dementia more often. Becuase of this, we should try some new ways to care about seniors with dementia like sensory activation. This bachelor thesis deals with two aims - What nurses think about this method and if this method is suitable for elders. We determined two research questions based on these aims: 'What nurses think about using sensory activation method?' and 'How sensory activation helps to seniors?' We chose quality research with the form semi-structured interview to get results. According to results, we can say the sensory activation is very useful. It helps with physical and mental health and it slows down progression of dementia disease. All of these is beneficial not only for the senior but also for the nursing staff. Nurses in retirement house really like this method. They were satisfied not only at workshop of sensory activation where they got much more information about this method, but they learned also how to use it in practice. Now they can observe the results in clients in retirements house too. The results of this bachelor thesis can be used for the better know-how of sensory activation for nurses and other non-medical workers in retirement house. It can be use like educational material for students of nursing school or other medical schools.

Sensory Activation for Seniors
ZICHOVÁ, Eliška
Numerous approaches are used for sensory activation of seniors, including multisensoric activation performed by enriched space of Snoezelen rooms or by Montessori techniques. Positive effects of multisensoric activation on the psychic and emotional state of seniors were reported and this is also true for seniors with Alzheimer dementia. An important component of multisensoric stimulation is the interpersonal contact between the senior and the person performing activation program. The theoretical part of my bachelor thesis was aimed to describe particular techniques of sensory activation and their use and benefits for seniors. The aim of the practical part was to find the most appropriate forms of sensory activation (focused to particular senses) which can be used for the seniors living in the Nursing Home for Seniors Bethesda in Prague. The satisfaction of seniors with various forms of sensory activation was also evaluated. Qualitative research was performed in nine seniors (eight women and one man aged 65-93 years) between April and July 2014. The health and social documentation available in Bethesda senior home revealed that the values of Mini-Mental Sate Examination (MMSE) found in these seniors were in the range between 12-27 points. Each senior participated in 10 activation sessions, each consisting of four different tasks focused on particular senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste). It was evident from my research that most of the tasks (except of text type recognition) were found to be appropriate for sensory activation of seniors in both individual or group activation programs. However, repeated task explanation, assistance of graphical clues and increased patience were necessary preconditions for the success of seniors with lower MMSE values. The tasks oriented on the touch were better evaluated by seniors than the tasks directed to other senses. It was evident that the tasks requiring the search of the links between presented objects as well as the tasks considering the type of reproduced text or song names were found to be rather complicated. These tasks were especially difficult for seniors with lower MMSE. I have also seen some difficulties in the tasks related to the taste and/or smell because these senses were attenuated in certain seniors. However, when I examined the tasks based upon a multisensoric stimulation (sweet dessert preparation), I was surprised by a good performance of all seniors irrespective of their sense defects or lower MMSE. Therefore it is necessary to care about the broad variety of the tasks included into the activation program and to adapt the demands of such programs to capabilities of participating seniors. Obtained results about sensory activation might be utilized in the care of seniors in nursing homes to improve their free time utilization. It might also facilitate the integration of seniors into their new living and social environment. This could support the maintenance of their personal, social and factual integrity.
The concept of sense activation and the changes in the care of a patient with a dementia disease.
PROKOPOVÁ, Martina
Dementia is becoming one of the most common disease in an old age. It is a set of symptoms which is created on the basis of the chronic or progressive brain disease. The most common cause of dementia is the Alzheimer´s disease. Currently there is no cure for dementia but it is possible to slow down the progress and make that the life of a patient better. The sensory activation is a concept which serves to seniors and mainly to people with dementia disease. Among people with this disease, the sensory stimulation is used mainly for strengthening and the usage of existing competencies. It´s main objective is to keep or refresh a patient´s own social and substantive competencies. It is important to use this method and provide a patient with dementia with honourable, active and meaningful old age. The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and an empirical one. The theoretical part contains information dealing with the problem of dementia. There we will learn what the dementia is, what is the cause of it, how the dementia is diagnosed and what the communication with people suffering with dementia should be like. Then the theoretical part contains information about the concept of the sensory activation. We will learn what is the goal of it, we will find some information about the tools used for the sensory activation, it´s planning and the subsequent realization. There is a chapter called "a human biography" which is very important for the method of sensory activation. In the next part there are described some other models of caretaking, for example the model of professor Erwin Bohm and the model of Validation by Naomi Feil.
Spiritual needs in the new concepts of care
VEJŠICKÁ, Milena
The work focuses on the spiritual needs of seniors and their saturation in modern concepts of senior care. The work is theoretically aimed to clarify how the spiritual needs of seniors are reflected in the modern concepts of care. The first chapter is devoted to the old age and aging, it describes the changes associated with aging, characterizes the term dementia and describes the societal view on aging. The second chapter deals with the characteristics of the basic human needs. In the third chapter the focus lies on the developmental tasks of aging and the seniors´ adaptation to age as a spiritual task. The fourth chapter describes the concept of spirituality and constitutes the fundamental spiritual needs of seniors. The fifth chapter focuses on selected modern concepts of senior care. These are the Sensory activation by Lore Wehner, psychobiografic care model by professor Böhm, the concept of basal stimulation and the validation method Naomi Feil. The final chapter assesses the significance of spiritual needs and their saturation within the mentioned concepts.
