A Phenomenon of Sherlock Holmes: A Detailed Comparison of Selected Sherlock Holmes Stories By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle And The Sherlock Tv Series By BBC
KUBECOVÁ, Kristina
This bachelor's thesis offers a detailed comparison of three selected Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with the BBC adaptation of Sherlock broadcast during the years 2010-2017. The series adaptation is inspired by the books from the 19th century, but they differ in many ways, as the storyline diverges completely from the original stories in many parts. However, the biggest difference between the two adaptations is the time period in which the story is set. The original stories take place in the period from the second half of the 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century, while the series adaptation is set in the modern times of the 21st century. The episode "A Study in Pink" is compared to A Study in Scarlet, "A Scandal in Belgravia" to the short story "A Scandal in Bohemia," and "The Six Thatchers" to the short story "The Adventure of Six Napoleons."

Picture of the Late Victorian and Edwardian London on the pages of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Holmesiana"
Marková, Zuzana ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
In this bachelor's thesis I am dealing with the reflection of late Victorian and Edwardian London in selected stories from the Sherlock Holmes canon. In order to illustrate and compare the literary fiction with the real face of the city I have selected 14 short stories and 2 novels published between 1887 and 1924. Using individual excerpts, I am trying to colourfully illustrate Holmes' London in the background of the historical image of the city which I view as a progressive metropolis, but also a place beset by poverty and difficult living conditions. In order to create a comprehensive image, the main body of my thesis is preceded by a brief summary of the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and an outline of the political situation of the island state and its sprawling empire.

The Detective Who Misled in His Own Method
Knorková, Marie ; Švantner, Martin (advisor) ; Karľa, Michal (referee)
In this thesis I analyze detective Sherlock Holmes method based on the semiotics of Ch. S. Peirce. I would like to show that although Holmes detective about his method claim that it is deductive, in-depth analysis shows that this method is far more complex and involves induction and abduction, and that each of these methods has its own importance in the detective's reasoning. The work is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the Sherlock Holmes detective in terms of logical methods. The second part is focused on methods of reasoning by Ch. S. Peirce emphasizing abduction, a hypothesis. The third part is practical and includes analysis of the process of detective Sherlock Holmes based on the thesis of Ch. S. Peirce, as outlined in the second part.`
