Negotiating Identity: Second Generation of Lithuanian Immigrants in Great Britain

This diploma thesis explores the negotiation of identity among second generation Lithuanian immigrants in the UK and aims to find out how children of migrants reflect the life between the two worlds and cultures - whether they identify more with the culture and lifestyle of the destination country, maintain a Lithuanian identity for the sake of their family members, or develop a so-called third culture. The first part of the thesis serves as a theoretical framework and focuses on several key themes - the theory of migration is introduced, in which the emphasis is put on the history and present of Lithuanian emigration and also on the theory of transnational migration; the concept of identity is discussed, which is viewed from several perspectives - national, transnational, social or ethnic identities are presented, and last but not least, the theory of third culture children and their identity; and the process of socialisation and its specifics are also discussed. The analytical part is then a case study of members of the second generation of Lithuanian migrants in the UK and presents an analysis of their perception of their own identity. Nutritional habits, self-concept and eating disorders in active sports girls

This thesis focuses on the investigation of nutritional habits and self-concept in active sporting girls. The theoretical part deals with nutrition, the theory of specific nutritional needs in sportsgirls and describes selected factors that influence the perception of their own body by these girls. These factors include nutritional habits, family background, girls' social media activity, and self-bodyimage. This thesis aims to determine the potential occurrence of eating disorders in relation to the mentioned factors. The practical part is designed as a quantitative survey study.

Getting Back to 'Europe': An Analysis of a Possible Self-Perceived Inadequacy of Czechs Towards the West

This thesis explores the concurrent role of Western hegemony alongside the lasting effects of communism in the challenges faced by post-socialist countries, with a specific focus on the Czech Republic. While communism is commonly seen as the primary cause, we argue that cultural ideas associated with Western hegemony predate communism and have deeply influenced Europe's identity. The thesis is divided into sections that examine the concept of progress throughout history and its relevance to Western European identity, followed by an exploration of hegemony through examples from post-socialist nations, including the Czech Republic. The thesis concludes by addressing potential criticisms and providing an exercise that applies the concepts of hegemony and progress to contemporary Czech society. This analysis aims to present an alternative perspective that acknowledges the simultaneous effects of both communism and Western hegemony in shaping the challenges faced by post-socialist countries during their transition.

The concept of the ideal of beauty in relation to physical health among students of multi-year gymnasium

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of beauty ideal in relation to physical health among students of multi-year gymnasium. The aim is to understand how the girls of a given gymnasium perceive this issue and in what context this circumstance affects them. Another aim is to find out the awareness of school representatives and their understanding of girls with self- image or eating disorders. The theoretical part focuses on the adolescent period in different areas from nutrition through body image to anorexia nervosa. The empirical part of the thesis uses qualitative research and a case study design. Group discussion was used as a method of data collection, and two discussions were held. One involved discussion with the girls and the other with school representatives. Thus, the research sample represents girls of a multi-year gymnasium, specifically thirds and fourths classes (ranging in age from 13-15 years) and representatives of the school. The research also included an analysis of school documents such as the School Curriculum and the Annual Report for the last school year. Experiencing atopic eczema from the perspective of young adult women

The presented master thesis is focused on the issue of atopic eczema. The aim of the thesis was to map the experiences of young adult women with atopic eczema, with an emphasis on their subjective experience of this disease. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the reader to the topic. It defines the term atopic eczema, describes its specifics, forms, etiopathogenesis and treatment options. It also deals with the psychosomatic approach as one of the possible approaches to this disease. In the theoretical part, the psychosocial aspects of atopic eczema are also taken into account, including the impact of the diagnosis on the quality of life of adult patients. The theoretical part is followed by the empirical part. Here are presented the results of a qualitative study in which eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with young adult women who were diagnosed with atopic eczema during their lifetime. By analyzing the data obtained, nine main categories were identified, which capture the individual experiences of women with atopic eczema. Self-evaluation of primary school students

The thesis deals with the self-evaluation of primary school students. The aim is to find out with what perspective the selected first grade teachers approach pupils' self-assessment. The theoretical part explains the concept of assessment. It lists its functions, forms and types. It focuses more on formative assessment and feedback in relation to self-assessment. It also mentions self-concept, which is closely related to self-assessment. It presents its definition and development with regard to the age focus in the first stage of primary school. It looks more closely at pupils' self-assessment. It focuses on the development of self-evaluation of the individual, its meaning and functions and the conditions for its development in school. It mentions what types of self-assessment are divided into and what methods and techniques can be used. Finally, it highlights the possible risks and pitfalls of pupil self-assessment. The practical part investigates the position taken by selected primary school teachers on pupil self- assessment. The research is carried out using observation and interview methods.
