Religion segmentation in Northern Ireland, 1861-2001
Smetanová, Daniela ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Masopustová, Ilona (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis "Religion segmentation in Northern Ireland, 1861-2001" examines the evolution of the representation of religious communities of Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. Protestants mostly came to Ulster during the Ulster plantation in the early 17th century from England and Scotland. They brought a different culture, way of life and religion to Catholic Ireland. The basis of the conflict in Northern Ireland is a distinct religion that blends into political life. Groups of Catholics and Protestants stand opposite, Catholics try to unify with the Republic of Ireland (Nationalists) and Protestants protect the current situation, a union with Great Britain (Unionists). This paper examines the geographic aspect of the religious composition of the population in counties Antrim, Down, Londonderry/Derry, Tyrone, Armagh and Fermanagh since 1861, when Ireland was part of Great Britain and continues through the division of the island into the southern and northern parts and the culmination of the conflict in Northern Ireland, until 2001 when the situation in Ulster began to stabilize thanks to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. The principal objectives of research are to identify factors influencing the distribution of religious groups and the influence of each phase on the...

Kučerová, Barbara ; Kaleta, Petr (advisor) ; Junek, Marek (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Czechs from Zelov and their contemporary life in the Czech republic" makes an attempt to show the process of changes in life and identity of people participating in the return migration from Zelov in Poland (in Polish Zelów) and their descendants. It deals with return migration after the Second World War and next changes in collective identity. Czechs in Zelov built their identity on the connection of religious and language-and-ethnic awareness. They came to Zelov in 1803 from Silesia, where they were from 1740s as religious emigrants. The thesis also includes this history of the migration and life in Zelov. Than the thesis presents outcomes of field research, which took place from October 2011 - to February 2012. The research supposes that the descendants are now interested in their history and traditions of Zelov. The example of interest is citizens association Exulant. The research is consisted of interviews and questionnaires from nine protestants parishes in the Czech republic. They show that these people declare they are not interested in Zelov. On the other hand, observations and pastor's point of view indicate that the life of them is influenced by Zelov in many directions. The thesis shows that the situation was influenced by the communist regime, the environment of...

The objective of this Bachelor's thesis is to describe the activities of Christian missionaries in China during the second half of 19. century. Most attention is being drawn to Protestant missions, which are more relevant due to the absence of hierarchy in Protestant churches, unlike in other branches of Christianity. Protestant congregations and Spiritualism in Podkrkonoší
Kletvík, Jan ; Halama, Ota (advisor) ; Rejchrtová, Noemi (referee)
After 1781 there were established several Protestant congregations in Podkrkonoší (North-East Bohemia). Approximately one hundred years later, the whole region was greatly affected by Spiritualism, a belief in communication with spirits of the dead through mediums. My objective is to describe the attitudes of the Protestant congregations in Podkrkonoší towards Spiritualism and analyse their causes and effects. Understanding these attitudes will yield an insight into the character of the present congregations. For this purpose, I studied the congregations in Libštát, Křížlice, and Jičín. In particular I focused on their parish priests because they had the control over their flock in these questions. I went through the archival materials of the respective congregations as well as personal diaries, and I analysed the memories of several interviewed people. These findings were then compared with the attitudes of some congregations in Great Britain. The results revealed three different approaches of the priests. Some were very radical, which led to excommunication of Spiritualists. Others were rather tolerant, which resulted in integration of Spiritualists. Finally, some priests were quite secretive, so their parishioners may not have seen a clear line between Spiritualism and Christianity.

Protestants in Libštát (1783-1945)
Kletvík, Jan ; Foltýn, Dušan (advisor) ; Halama, Ota (referee)
There had been three different churches in Libštát for many years. This dissertation is covering the history of the Reformed church and the history of the Lutheran church. The group that had registered under the Reformed church after the issue of the Patent of the Tolerance was larger. Therefore, they were faster in getting their own minister. It was Jan Csomor, who came in 1783. They also managed to build their own church, which was consecrated in 1787. However, the Lutheran church was smaller in numbers, so they could not establish their independent church, thus they became a part of the church family with the seat in a remote village called Křížlice. They also did not manage to get the permission to build their own church, so they had been existentially struggling for quite a long time. In the end, they succeeded and built their own church in 1842. After that, they achieved independence from Křížlice in 1867 and got their first minister the very next year. The history of the whole community allows us to study the relations between the two churches and their following union in 1918. The last third of the 19th century seems to play the key role in the convergence of the two churches. The Reformed minister, Emanuel Havelka, and the Lutheran minister, Petr Marušiak, have probably played a crucial role in...

Ročejdlová, Markéta ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The Abstract The work "The Impact of the Good Friday Agreement on the Protestant Community" deals with the Protestant community in Northern Ireland in the period between signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 and the St. Andrews agreement in 2007. The object of analysis is the change in perception of the Catholics, the Great Britain, Republic of Ireland and the Protestant community by itself in the relation to the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, respectively its three principles (right to self-determination, power-sharing and parity of self esteems). The work is divided in several chapters. The work contains chapter describing the Good Friday Agreement and the profile of Protestants in 1998 and further chapters for each of the principles and their impact on the Protestant community. Thanks to more or less successful implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and the lost of the hegemonic position there was a significant shift in the identity of the Protestant community. The shift was accentuated by the intertwined religion, etno-national and political identification. After the 1998 there was a weakening of the ties with Great Britain and the British identity at the advantage of the identity Northern Irish. During the examined period the shift from the tradition division of the Northern...
