FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AND ITS CURRENT POSIOTION IN MEDIA AND ADVERTISING

The bachelor thesis Fashion photography and its current position in media and advertising examines the role of fashion stories (fashion editorials) in relation with the lifestyle magazines they are published in, regarding the role photographers who are responsible for the fashion stories and the fact whether the advertisement in particular magazine issue is related to the content of the fashion story. The analytical part of the thesis is based on the specific example of three lifestyle magazines in the Czech Republic - Elle, Dolce Vita and proc ne?! and on the work of four photographers that publish the most in these magazines - Anna Mrazek Kovacic, Standa Merhout and pairs Stepanka Stein & Salim Issa, Rene & Radka. It is subdivided into three units. The first examines the role of fashion stories in media, define the parameters on the basis of which a quality of a fashion story can be specified. The second analyzes the relation between fashion stories and advertisement on the example of brands that advertise in the magazines in comparison to the brands that are used in the fashion stories. The third analyzes the photographic style of the authors of fashion stories and examines how it is affected by the requirements of the client's order.
Luxury lifestyle newspaper supplements in the Czech republic

The diploma thesis observes the phenomenon of Czech journal attachements of luxury character in particular supplements ZEN, City Life, Esprit and Proč ne?! These are published together with daily press E15, MF Dnes, Lidové Noviny a Hospodářské noviny. In the theoretical part is first outlined the development of lifestyle magazines and classical daily attachments, because examined supplements are kind of combination of both these media products. The next chapter deals with the media content from the political as well as economical communication, which covertly affects media by means of advertising and public relations and thus shape public opinion according to their own interests. In the end the theoretical part focuses also on definition of advertisement and public relations. The goal of the practical part is to research using the semiotic analysis how the ideology of success is presented to readers, which is in general an attribute of political as well as economical elites. The luxury lifestyle construction in the proč ne? magazine

This diploma thesis focuses on the process of designing a luxurious lifestyle within the proč ne?! magazine. The theme aims to analyze the year's activities at several levels. The first level is a quantitative content analysis, where the primary objective is to determine the ratio of advertising to editorial content. Based on these quantitative findings the magazine's content will be confronted with the ownership structure of major advertisers. The second level is represented by expert interviews carried out with the magazine editors who bring valuable additional material. The third level is a qualitative content analysis which focuses on a luxury lifestyle that is constructed through the magazine. This luxury lifestyle will be described through various selected examples of textual and pictorial character. Theoretical introduction provides a broader framework in which the concept of luxury is described. In practical part of the thesis, these findings are used to explain several luxury phenomenons. The final part offers a detailed analysis of the advertiser's structure, their products and stratification within segments of the luxury market through comprehensive visualization.
