The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals
Plívová, Viktorie ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the very analysis of the diary in the years 1945 - 1948, its form, its way of distributing the information and describing certain political moments, as well as the anchorage of the daily in party structures. Zábrodská, Kristina ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Vošahlíková, Pavla (referee) ; Burešová, Jana (referee)
The doctoral thesis Gastronomy as a part of life style in the Czech national print media in the period between the wars in Czechoslovak Republic presents the results of eight years long research of food journalism in the Czech press between 1918 and 1938. This period called First Republic is often seen, due the positive sentiment, as a modern, democratic and prosperous state. The reality is a different. This text presents just a little part of picture of life style during First Republic which is gastronomy. That mirrors the economic and social level of the society. This text reflects critically the historical facts. The assumption, that print media pay regularly attention to the gastronomy as an integral part of life is important idea of this research. The content analysis proofs, that food journalism had its own section in the analyzed daily print, although media didn't used this kind of terminology. Five national newspapers (Lidové noviny, Národní politika, České slovo, Právo lidu and Venkov) were issued in the period 1918-1938 and newspapers Rudé právo established 1920 are included in the analysis. The selection of these (media) reflects the whole social-political spectrum of the audience. It could be assumed, that the selected newspapers represent the whole plurality of opinions. The analysis...

Jelínková, Vladislava ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The paper will concern the formation of the United Nations Organization in 1945 and its reflection in the period newspapers. Firstly it will provide facts about the preceding organizations of UNO, it will describe the proces of drafting the new organization and its establishing conference in San Francisko 25. 4. - 26. 6. 1945. It will discuss the position of the Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Masaryk at the conference, because he acted as a very pro-Western politician before and during World War II, but at the conference he stood for the interestes of the Soviet Union (i.e. in the question of recognizing the Polish government). Then the paper will also outline the domestic political situation that was influencing Masaryk's performance at the conference. The first part includes also the preamble of the UN Charter. The second part of the paper will introduce the articles in the Czechoslovak press that were reporting about the UN creation. I chose the following newspapers: Lidová demokracie, Mladá fronta, Právo lidu, Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo, because those daily newspapers were written in Czech, they were published in the period of June-December 1945 and they were published by political parties that were represented in the National Front (only the journal Mladá fronta was published...
